  2. Paris (Aeroplane Remix) by Friendly Fires featuring Au Revoir Simone

WOW! These two versions are completely different. I have to say I first heard Paris (Aeroplane Remix) on FabricLive 45 – A-Trak and had to find out more about Friendly Fires and I was like what nice I like the music they release and I needed to research them more.

I really love these both versions of Paris but as I said above they are completely different from one another. Like night and day. I favor the remix over the original more indie alternative sound but they are both cool. Preview both versions below.

The original Paris is off of the self titled Friendly Fires album.

  3. Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger by Uminski Covers Daft Punk

Taking an electro dance track and making it a hard rocking track with punk attitude is awesome in my book. And here Uminski have done an awesome job of the Daft Punk track Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger. Check them out below you’ll be surprised at what you hear!

The single is off of the album Sain Et Sauf. Uminski_Sain_Et_Sauf

  4. This Sweet Love (Prins Thomas Sneaky Edit) by James Yuill

I love this remix of This Sweet Love by James Yuill. The remix is by Prins Thomas by there’s not much difference so it’s only a slight bit of a change here and I totally dig it. Very mellow and chill. I love the song so it was great to finally track down these remixes as there’s several or so by different remixers but this Prins Thomas remix takes the cake since this song does not really need the extreme remix treatment. The vocals are too mellow and cute to get the big beat treatment. You think?

The remix is off of the This Sweet Love single …

I love this … it’s a remake of Satisfaction by Benny Bennasi from about 5 years ago. I love the original but Who Made Who have taken the electro smash and made it into an 80s influenced rockin, new wavish cut. Very recommended! Check them out below and let me know what you think.

  6. Birth, School, Work, Death by Manhead Featuring Christian Cruz

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

Don’t know much about this release of Birth, School, Work, Death by Manhead Featuring Christian Cruz but I sure do know the original by The Godfathers. The one hit wonder modern rockers that I heard countless times on Live 105. It’s a pretty darn good track the original that is but the remake is not as exciting as the original but it really does grow on you. What do you think? It’s a midtempo clubby electro sounding update and yes it truly does grow on you. It’s quite fun!

    Disco_Dimensions_Vol_1

    Manhead_Birth_School_Work_Death

I first heard of this remake on the Disco Demensions, Vol. 1 CD then I was like hey I remember that track by The Godfathers back in 1987/1988. Wait do I have my dates right? Ok just looked it up and their album Birth, School, Work, Death was released in 1988 on Epic Records. The newer remake is available as a (if you can find it) 12″ vinyl single as well.

  7. Europa And The Pirate Twins by Sondre Lerche

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

I love the original of Europa And The Pirate Twins by Thomas Dolby. Even more than his bigger hit She Blinded Me With Science which as a kid I despised. It absolutely drove me crazy! But Europa And The Pirate Twins was awesome. Perfect synth Euro pop!

The original Europa And The Pirate Twins is off of the album The Golden Age Of Wireless album that also included the song She Blinded Me With Science. An awesome 80s classic worth owning if you don’t.

I do like this version by Sondre Lerche. It’s updated nicely but still doesn’t stand up to the original by Thomas Dolby. What do you think?

It’s on the single to Say It All which you can order from Amazon.

  8. Blue Monday (DJ Dan Remix) by Orgy

How do you take one of the best dance singles of all time and redo it? Well record it (but it kinda sucks) then release a bunch of remixes (most sucked) but make sure you get DJ Dan to remix it for you. Well I have to say this remix of Blue Monday by Orgy originally by New Order is quite nice. It’s actually perfection. You can actually hear elements of the original music by New Order in this remix that aren’t in the the original cover by Orgy. So guess what? Which version do you think I like best? I love the remix over the Orgy original. It’s nice and upbeat!

  9. Standing In The Way Of Control (Playgroup Remix) by The Gossip

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

I love taking a punk rock song and remixing the hell out of it and make it a fucking cool awesome dance club song. Such is the example of this track by The Gossip. Playgroup who back in 2002 released a really awesome self titled album of electro funky dance pop. It’s a great album and worth checking out if you haven’t. I have the double CD version pictured below which you should def. own that has lots of great remixes.

Playgroup actually did major wonders to this track – he (Trevor Jackson) has added a very early 90′s sound to the remix and It’s rocking. Well in a remix way. Check it out and let me know what you think? You like? Let me know

  10. Fear Of Flying by Vitamin C

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

I love this song by Vitamin C and I love the way the sample from The Magnificent Seven is used in the song. The singing is perfect one of the better Vitamin C songs and the beats. I like it when samples from original songs are used perfectly in newer songs and this actually really succeeds. I’m not sure about other Vitamin C songs as they tend to be pretty poppy but this song definitely has an edge to it especially since it’s utilizing the sample from The Clash.

Hey though Vitamin C aka Colleen Fitzpatrick is a pretty big star. She made her acting debut in the awesome John Waters film Hairspray. She played Amber Von Tussle. She did several movies after that but later she was in the band Eve’s Plumb. Remember them? The pop/punk band who were known for the Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons song December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night). Oh maybe we should blog about that song on Destroy Rock & Roll too.

Check it out and let me know what you think? Do you like the original the remake or both?

  11. Riders On The Storm (Ibizarre Remix) by The Doors

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

This is a pretty old remix – almost 10 years old now but I do like it. It’s the classic Riders On The Storm track by The Doors made into a chillout – downtempo track. It’s been stripped of most of the instruments (at least the guitars and drums) so you can lay back to it on a sofa at home sipping cocktails with your friends or tea with a book.

Once you listen to it though you will notice there’s not much difference between both tracks – it’s just slight but you can tell the two apart as the original still sounds very 60′s hippie rock and the remix is more loungy.

  12. Professional Widow (It’s Got To Be Big) (Armand’s Star Trunk Funkin’ Mix) by Tori Amos

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

This remix was all over the place when it came out in 1996. Gosh Armand Van Helden was in top remix form. Around this time he did some excellent remixes for Jimmy Somerville, Nu Yorican Soul, New Order, Daft Punk and Sneaker Pimps. But this Tori Amos remix was what really put Armand Van Helden on the map. It’s quite awesome and it’s the kind of remix that I really, really love. Listen to the original track and the remix and you’ll notice what I’m talking about.

They are both very different and I really love the Armand Van Helden remix. Don’t you? This is what I really mean about Destroy Rock And Roll! An artist taking a track/song and totally changing it and making it completely different. Love it! More of it please.

  13. You Showed Me (Radio Edit) by The Lightning Seeds

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

I love this remake by The Lightning Seeds of the Turtles song You Show Me from the 60s. This Lightning Seeds version was featured in the first Austin Powers film but I don’t have the soundtrack to the film I actually have the single this was fulled from which also has several trip hop style remixes but unfortunately those versions are not as good as the original version. Also I really fell in love with this version after the first Austin Powers film was released and had been sort of a bomb at the box office and later caught momentum in the rentals and finally 2 very successful sequels that followed the films.

This remake is 12 years old now but still sounds quite fresh. What do you think of the Lightning Seeds version compared to The Turtles version? The Turtles version sounds a bit flat compared to the 12 year old Lightning Seeds version but they are both good. Check out the video below as well.

  14. Wild Thing (Peaches Extended Remix) by Tone-Loc

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

Here’s a really fun remix of the classic 1980′s hip-hop song. Peaches has taken the song and added electro rock touches to it and also added her nasty vocals to it. I think it really works. The only prob I have with this recording is that there’s some really odd audio probs with it. I’ve downloaded the entire album Rmxxology both from Amazon MP3 and emusic and there seems to be some clipping. And it’s not only this recording it’s the entire album. Maybe the audio clipping is for effect? Anyone know?

It kind of spoils the music but the remix is still fun and I love both the original and the Peaches remix. Peaches rocks! Don’t you think so?

  15. Ces Bottes Sont Faites Pour Marcher by Eileen

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

Here’s a fun French version of Nancy Sinatra’s go- go classic. I love this as I can hardly sing it and I can sing the original for sure in English but the fact that I can’t sing this makes it all that more unique.

This series Femmes De Paris is a great collection of young French pop divas from the 60s singing original and cover songs from British and American hits. I love the collection and it’s definitely worth owning for anyone interested in this type of music. They are sure fun and will get folks talking and chatting at a party.

What do you think? Nancy’s version or Eileen’s cover? They are both fun to me!

  16. It’s Not Over Yet by Klaxons

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

I love this … I love the fact that a punk/rock/dance band has taken a electronic/dance song from the 90s and totally made it their own. It’s perfection. I remember listening to Not Over Yet by Grace back in the mid 90′s over and over again. The various remixes by BT, Danny Tenaglia, Dancing Divas and etc. This track was released off of Paul Oakenfold’s Perfecto label – later on Reprise here in the states. And I remember listening to the many reincarnations of Not Over Yet – the tranced up versions that came out in 1999 as Planet Perfecto Presents Grace. Those were quite nice.

But this Klaxons version is perfect if not excellent. I love the guitars and the vocals – they are all perfectly blended together. Don’t you think? Check out the video as well.

This is off of their Myths Of The Near Future album.

  17. The Final Countdown 2000 by Europe

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

This remix of the classic synth metal track by Europe has definitely gotten the dancefloor kick to it but since it came out almost a decade ago it sounds a bit tired (not too much) but still works. The original is definitely a classic. I remember listening to it back in the mid 80′s when I was a teenager – I was a closet metal fan I liked some of the bands like Europe so this was definitely a sight for sore ears when it came out almost 10 years ago. Remixing metal music and making it for the dancefloor was not something I was really used to back then but I surely enjoyed this track much when it was released back then.

I can’t figure out who did the remix – the only name that comes up is Brian Rawling. If you know the details please feel free to write and post a comment so I can figure it out.

The original version is still classic but I do like the remix. What do you think?

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

I love this mash up of Horny by Mousse T Featuring the vocals of Hot ‘N’ Juicy and The Dandy Warhols Bohemian Like You. I like the original but it’s a little too housy and of course it sounds a bit dated for today but this recent mash up sounds quite nice and more ‘now’. You think? Tell me what your thoughts are on these two versions. I think you will go with the more recent version but you never know some of you may prefer the house sounds of the 90s over the rock, new wave electro sounds of the last couple of years. I like both but really into the new mash up.

  19. Troy (Kay Cee Power Mix) by Sinead O’Connor

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

Well I figured my second post on Destroy Rock And Roll (http://www.destroyrockandroll.com) should be a remix of a pop/rock track and one that is pretty beatless and heavy on the dramatic vocals and very orchestral/classical sounding background.

Sinead O’Connor is in top form here on Troy which is pre Nothing Compares 2 U – the Prince cover that put her on the map.

So the Remixes to Troy came out in 2002 and this Kay Cee Remix is the strongest cut in the bunch and there were a ton of mixes. I love this – it’s still pretty dramatic in the vocals as they are all there but the beats are so heavy that it takes you on a fast euphoric journey. This is a track that you can really blast in your car and cruise the streets. Just make sure you don’t run anyone over but hey you can really do that if you get carried away.

It’s awesome. Check out the original and the remix and write a comment and let me know what you think.
