  1. Rope (Deadmau5 Mix) by Foo Fighters

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

By no means am I a fan of Foo Fighters. Sure I might like (keyword like) a couple of their songs here and there but in no way I go out of my way to buy their music. I don’t! It’s just the same rock or alternative song over and over again. No room for originality and that’s what the mainstream folks listen to. Don’t they get tired of this stuff? But when I found out that Deadmau5 remixed Rope their hit from Wasting Light I was there to check it out and listen to it. Now this remix is awesome. Hundred thousand times better than what they have released in it’s original form off of Wasting Light. Ok folks will hate me for what I’m saying but check out both versions and see for yourself. The Deadmau5 remix of Rope by Foo Fighters lends itself perfectly for the song. They actually should have released this version over the original. I guess the record execs felt it’s a pretty darn cool remix to be included in the deluxe edition of Wasting Light. You think? I’m a big big fan of Deadmau5 and to hear that he’s done this amazing remix of a Foo Fighters song it pretty darn cool in my book. It comes to show you that folks are getting tired of the same old rock song over and over again and they need a little remix variety.

    Good, it’s about damn time!

  2. Depeche Mode – Remixes 2 Collection – 1981 – 2011!

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

Depeche Mode are back with another excellent remix collection of their greatest hits remixed for todays ears. This is such an excellent release that any Depeche Mode fan or remix fan needs to go out and get this collection. Depeche Mode Remixes 2 Collection 1981 – 2011. The 3 disc remixes set has one of my all time favorite remixes of any Depeche Mode song ever. That is Higher Love from 1993 from my least favorite Depeche Mode album Songs Of Faith And Devotion. At that time grunge was big so DM decided to go towards a heavy grungy rock sound. Either way Higher Love was remixed by Francois Kevorkian back in 1993 and was included on the In Your Room single. Best thing on there although I do like the In Your Room Jeep Rock Remix which is not on this Depeche Mode Remixes 2 Collection – 1981 – 2011! Glad Higher Love (Adrenaline Mix) is now included on new their Remixes 2 Collection of songs from 1981 – 2011.

Depeche Mode – Remixes 2: 81-11 continues where Remixes 81-04 left off. That collection came out in 2004 and it’s certainly an excellent 3 CD collection of cuts from their career up until 2004. Excellent remixes on 81-04 include Photographic (Rex The Dog Remix), Halo (Goldfrapp Remix), Clean (Colder Version) and Nothing (Headcleaner Rock Mix) but also mentioned In Your Room (The Jeep Rock Mix) and that’s on Depeche Mode Remixes 81-04. Last collection focused on Enjoy The Silence with several remixes and a remix single for Enjoy The Silence and this time around they are focusing on another Violator single, Personal Jesus with a remix single to compliment Depeche Mode – Remixes 2: 81-11 which are all worthy of exploring if you haven’t already. Both of the singles have longer versions of the remixes that are on the remix collections plus bonus cuts and remixes that are not on the remix collections so they are worth owning. Enjoy!

Below is the excellent tracklisting for Depeche Mode – Remixes 2: 81-11.

  3. Let’s Go To Bed (Milk Mix) by The Cure

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

Been a huge fan of The Cure since the mid 80s when I first heard Close To me from their The Head On The Door album. It was only obvious that they would end up remixing their songs in the future. So when Mixed Up came out in 1990 I was quite excited to check it out. Although Mixed Up was not much of a remix album. It was mostly extended versions of their hits from their recent big Disintegration album so it was obvious that Elektra Records put out this remix album Mixed Up. But there are the few remixes on the album like the two most obvious songs that definitely sound like are The Walk (Everything Mix) and In Between Days (Shiver Mix) but the rest of the cuts on Mixed Up are mostly extended versions. Still worthy to own Mixed Up if you don’t have it as longer versions of Cure songs are better than the shorter versions!!! Luckily there was this single for the main song off of Mixed Up, Never Enough which included the best remix that was not on the album Mixed Up. Let’s Go To Bed (Milk Mix) is the best of them all. Now since then countless remixes of Cure songs have been done but at the time the best remix of a Cure song was on not on the remix album! So it was a bit disappointing. Luckily Elektra Records decided to add that remix to the single to Never Enough. Let’s Go To Bed (Milk Mix) is remixed by Mark Saunders who was one of the big remixers from that era. He’s produced and mixed and remixed some of the best UK artists from that era like Depeche Mode, Erasure, Cathy Dennis, The Farm, Coldcut featuring Lisa Stansfield and Siouxsie & The Banshees.

If you are a fan of The Cure and remixes check out some of these other great remixes of Cure Songs. Blank & Jones remixing A Forest is pretty darn cool! And The Walk (Infusion Mix) is also worth listening to or actually owning. And if you love Robert Smiths vocals and love electronic dance music then certainly you have to know about Junior Jack’s Da Hype which samples Don’t You Want My by Human League. Highly recommended!

    Enjoy!

  4. Sweet Child O’ Mine by Flat Pack Covers Guns N’ Roses

Those of you that know anything about Mylo will know where the name of this website comes from. One of my favorite albums from the 2000′s and perhaps for the last 20 years is the album Destroy Rock And Roll byMylo. Destroy Rock And Roll was chock full of some of the best dance music around. Included excellent cuts like Destroy Rock And RollDrop The PressureMuscle CarsMuscle Car Reform RepriseIn My Arms,Valley Of The DollsParis Four HundredOtto’s Journey and more. The whole album was totally listenable and it still sounds fresh today. Well Mylo and his label Breastfed Records also released other artists likeLinus LovesRadio SlaveRan Shani and Flat Pack which released this just OK remake of a classic Guns N’ Roses classic songs Sweet Child O’ Mine by Flat Pack. I was very excited to hear this remake when it first came out in 2005 but it just wasn’t strong. Fortunately though it’s saved by the Mylo Remix which is here. What do you think? Good, bad?  If you don’t like it and don’t know anything about Mylo then head over here and check out some awesome Mylo cuts now and preview Destroy Rock And Roll!

  5. New Years Dub by Musique Vs U2

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

Ten years ago there was so much really excellent electronic music being released. So much creativity was around which included tons of releases like this track by Musique called New Years Dub which is basically a sampling New Years Day by U2. Apparently the band U2 was so into this cut by Musique that they approved this themselves and it turned out such a great dance hit for Musique. This New Years Dub track features a sample of The Edge’s famous guitar work as heard on the popular U2 track New Years Day. In fact this track basically sounds like a pretty darn good remix of New Years Day by U2. The single release also contains remixes by Hybrid and Mauro Picotto those of you are interested in checking those out. If you’re into U2 and also are into remixes, electronic music then this is perfect you will like this track. I do and I’m sure if you’re reading DestroyRockAndRoll.com then you will too.

  6. Happy Together (Wade Nichols aka Todd Terje Edit) by The Turtles

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

Happy Together by The Turtles is one of my favorite 60s songs. I think it’s one of those rare songs that still sounds quite original on it’s own. I was looking forward to this reedit of the original Happy Together by Wade Nichols aka Todd Terje. Once I heard it I knew it was pretty much the same in sound but it does have a bouncier beat to it making it a perfect example of an early 70s disco treatment of a 60s song.

Enjoy both the original and edit versions below.

  7. Crystalised (Rory Phillips Remix) by The XX

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

This is a good example of a very bland boring alternative rock song that has been given LIFE by a really cool remix treatment by Rory Phillips! I’m so glad that the band The XX commissioned this remix by Rory Phillips as I really did not like the original.  There’s hardly any music on the original version of this song except for the bland singing. Ok the music does kick in a bit halfway through but then it fizzles out again. Sorry guys it’s needing something and luckily this Rory Phillips remix does wonders to it. The remix has a synthy, bouncy disco beat added to the very flat singing by the two members of The XX which actually compliment together quite well. Up until I heard this remix that I started liking the original version of  Crystalised. I can always say that remixes do what videos did to me when music videos were popular. Remixes turn me on to music that normally I wouldn’t listen to. Now I’m a fan of The XX like everyone else! Check out both original and remixed version below. 8. Animal (DJ’s From Mars Extended Remix) by Neon Trees

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

I’m sure you’ve heard of this song Animal by Neon Trees from somewhere already as it’s been everywhere but have you heard of this remix by DJ’s From Mars? It’s even better than the original I kid you not. Screw the guitar and take the upbeat energetic electro club beats. Ok just kidding the original is good but you know me I love my remixed music!

I don’t know who DJ’s From Mars are but they sure did a great job remixing this cut and it’s certainly ready for the clubs. The original is from the Neon Trees Habits CD but no official remix package is available anywhere so not sure why? Found this remix on a compilation that was sent and I figured it was worth putting up. You like?

This is one of those rare Brit rock tracks that I really dig. It samples one of my favorite recordings of all time (Love Is Like A) Heatwave by Martha Reeves & The Vandellas. That song goes down as one of my all time top 25 tracks and Black And White Town does an awesome job of sampling the part of Heatwave best. I’m not much a fan of Doves but after I heard of this I was sure enough checking out more from the band. Enjoy both Doves and Martha & The Vandellas tracks below.

  10. Walk The Line (Laurent Wolf Remix) by Laurent Wolf

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

Taking a classic country song like I Walk The Line by Johnny Cash and sampling it into a dance song is alright in my book. So when I first heard about Walk The Line by Laurent Wolf I immediately wanted to check it out. I had thoughts that it might suck or be boring but in reality it was quite cool. The sound is energetic electro with sections of the famous line ‘I Walk The Line” sung by Johnny Cash and sampled into track. It works in my book. It’s an upbeat, energetic banging electro club cut with a little bit of country thrown in. Trust me it’s not Rednex! Check it out … what do you think?

I Walk The Line by Johnny Cash
Walk The Line (Laurent Wolf Remix) by Laurent Wolf

The remix CD called Johnny Cash Remixed came out several years ago with remixes of Johnny Cash songs but I thought it was weak. Nothing like Verve Remixed or anything similar to that. Somebody did this remix project on a shoestring budget and didn’t quite achieve top notch remixes for this as I first thought I was totally going to dig it but it’s just ok in my book. I Walk The Line remix from Johnny Cash Remixed is below includes Snoop Dogg of all peops!

  11. Matt Helders Ft. Nesreen Shah Cover Dreamer by Livin’ Joy

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

This song was such a big deal for me back in the mid 90s that I overplayed it. It was a big pop dance crossover hit from Italy. Later I also discovered a Rollo remix and started playing that version as well. So it has a special place for me as it was def one of the bigger dance pop tunes that came out in the 90s. I was quick to want to check out when I heard about a remake of it. Sure to my surprise it’s a pretty darn cool version by Matt Helders featuring Nesreen Shah. Matt Helders is the drummer from the Arctic Monkeys and I have not idea who Nesreen Shah is but they have certainly updated a club classic 90s dance pop song and made it quite the energetic drummified bouncy update. I like it. What do you think? The track is from Ministry Of Sounds Uncovered CD which is a real cool collection of covers remakes etc. Well worth it to own!

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

I’m really digging this remix of Lollipop The Chordettes song from the late 50s. It’s been given the extra bassy treatment but it’s really short like the original song itself. The original song I’m sure you’ve heard countless times is a cute innocent late 50s pop hit but this ones got a bit of gritty inner city feel to it even including a recognizable beat from Tone Loc’s Wild Thing. I’m sure you’ll recognize it once you hear it. I love it. Found this recently on the Whip It (film) soundtrack and wasn’t even aware that a remix has been done to this song and I’m happy to have discovered it.

This story has been told countless times and I’ll say it again. Well I already did! That is the case with Heads Will Roll by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs! The original Heads Will Roll is just ok. Sounds very flat sorry I hate flat music. I love my highs and lows. But this remix of Heads Will Roll by A-Trak is just so damn good. I love it. 16. I Love Rock N’ Roll (Original Extended Mix) by Alex Gaudino and Jason Rooney

I love it when they take an old rock classic song and fuck it up. Well in this case of Alex Gaudino taking on I Love Rock N’ Roll the classic early 80s pop rock anthem by Joan Jett & The Black Hearts it’s not really fucked up I think it’s perfected upon. Remixed to death. I love it and I love this remix. The whole package of 5 different remixes are awesome. Perfect for todays dancefloor or to blast from your speakers speeding down the highway. Or whatever will get you off. Joan Jett & The Blackhearts deserve the remix treatment as their rock and roll classic has been electrified and Alex Gaudino and Jason Rooney have done an wicked remake and sampling job with the original vocals from Joan Jett. At least it sounds like the original vox. You think?  Now after hearing this which came out last year I want to hear more classics remixed. Let’s remix everything shall we?

  17. Italian Secret Service Cover Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit

I think every song should be remixed, remade, sampled even such a classic song like Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana. I love the idea of taking a song that’s recognized in a genre and switching it on everyone and rerecording it in a complete different style. And here it’s done quite well by Italian Secret Service from Irma Records out of Italy. This remake takes me back to the early 60s, innocent jazzy easy listening music. It’s fun and this really works just grab yourself a mai tai and enjoy.

Ok looking at these pictures of Miike Snow I think gosh they looked pretty freaking weird but one listen to their song Black And Blue make you wonder is it the same guys? Well either way I’ve gotten past their looks and gone straight to their music and this remix of Black And Blue by Tiga is pretty darn cool. More electro synthy rather than pop electro like the original is. What do you think? You like. Worth a download and listen for sure. Oh and the video is worth checkign out too!

  21. Solar Twins Cover The Clash With Rock The Casbah

    Destroy-Rock-And-Roll-Remix-Remake-Solar-Twins-Rock-The-Casbah

Well The Solar Twins that little known one hit wonder band from England that split up just after releasing one album did have a good enough song to have a post on DestroyRockAndRoll.com. Although I have to say this version of Rock The Casbah is pretty darn good. Don’t get me wrong The Clash are awesome at that song but this Solar Twins is a great electronica interpretation. Released back in 1999 on Madonna’s Maverick Records Solar Twins self titled album is chock full of electronica, downtempo, drum and bass and ambient styles and this Rock The Casbah and Swayambhu are the standout cuts on the album. I guess it was good enough to end up on the Brokedown Palace soundtrack that was also released also in 1999. The rest of the album is just mediocre.

I love it when DJ’s or artists remix very well known tracks but legends. This remix was done by Paul Oakenfold of the classic Doors track L.A. Woman I dig it very much. It’s now around 5 or 6 years old but hey L.A. Woman never gets tired and this remix is just the same. It’s not your typical dance remix here Paul Oakenfold keeps the same elements of the original Doors song but the remix has an added oomph factor to it. Check them both out below. Gosh Paul Oakenfold got his start in the late 80s/early 90s and I’ve been following his music since then and he’s certainly come along way and this remix is just an example of his great remixing talents. This remix appears on Perfect Presents The Club disc. Oh and check the promo video below for L.A. Woman by The Doors

This remix of Love Shack by The B-52′s goes back to 1999 – ten years ago and it’s a pretty darn awesome remix by DJ Tonka. Not sure really who this DJ Tonka is but if I ever play Love Shack by The B-52′s this is the version that I play. Love Shack is now 20 years old! Darn I feel old but this version is still pretty darn fresh. It’s much more upbeat and the bassline is what’s going on in this remix. The original Love Shack from Cosmic Thing was a pretty flat track so this kicks things way up! Check them both out below. The remix was part of a bigger package along with Hallucinating Pluto for The B-52′s Time Capsule Greatest Hits disc that was coming out shortly after. The remix CD Single included other great remixes as well. Check out the entire tracklist below.

This is a pretty lively rocking version of the Donna Summer disco classic I Feel Love performed by Blue Man Group and beautifully sung by Venus Hum. It’s been given the trademark Blue Man Group tribal drum feel here so it’s really fast and energetic. I still love the Donna Summer version produced by Giorgio Moroder bu this version is perfect as a remake. It’s the complete opposite of disco. Check them both out below and enjoy the video as well. It’s off of the Blue Man Group’s The Complex CD.

  25. When You’re Around by Frankmusik Covers Golden Brown by The Stranglers

Love this song When You’re Around by Frankmusik. It’s a cover of the Stranglers new wave punk classic Golden Brown. I love that Frankmusik has taken it and given it a little electro life. Increasing the bpm and making it a bit frenetic which perfectly works. The original by the Stranglers is pretty darn good and a classic now but I love a fresh take on a classic track and Frankmusik has done that perfectly. What do you think?

When You’re Around is from the album Complete Me on Island Records. It’s available for download from online retailers like Amazon.com or iTunes. Check it out as it’s a fun album. Lots of electro pop with a big hint to the 80s.

This video rocks …. check it out below!
