  1. A Fifth Of Beethoven (Soulwax Edit) by Walter Murphy

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

Soulwax do an awesome remix of the disco classic A Fifth Of Beethoven by Walter Murphy from the the best selling Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. Wow! I wasn’t aware of this remix but glad I got International Deejay Gigolo Records CD 12 and I found it on there. To my amazement it’s a pretty darn amazing electro remix. Worth checking out below. The rest of the International Deejay Gigolos CD 12 release is pretty rocking too. There’s a pretty darn cool remix of the Peaches song Lose You by DJ Hell, A DJ Hell and Bryan Ferry collaboration and tracks by Diskokaine, Hard Ton, Peter Kruder, Fagget Fairys, Peter Kruder, Psychonauts and more! Worth owning! But for now check out the original of A Fifth Of Beethoven and the Soulwax remix.

  2. Italian Secret Service Cover Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

I think every song should be remixed, remade, sampled even such a classic song like Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana. I love the idea of taking a song that’s recognized in a genre and switching it on everyone and rerecording it in a complete different style. And here it’s done quite well by Italian Secret Service from Irma Records out of Italy. This remake takes me back to the early 60s, innocent jazzy easy listening music. It’s fun and this really works just grab yourself a mai tai and enjoy.

You should be the judge and listen to both versions below. And if you like Italian Secret Services style then download the rest of their album from Amazon by clicking on the album artwork below.

  3. Strings Of Life (Instrumental Octave One Remix) by The 10th Planet

Techno classic masterpiece from the late 80s gets a jazzed up house groove. I’m there. This is a pretty darn great reinterpretation of one of the early techno classics by Rhythim is Rhythim, Derrick May’s band. Where as the original is somewhat slow this version by The 10th Planet is groovin’ fast. The 10th Planet are Derrick May and Michael James and this is the remix/remake of Strings Of Life as remixed by Octave One. Lovin’ it. Check them both out below you’ll know what I’m talking about. I’ve always been a huge fan of Ian Dury’s disco punk hit Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick and when I heard that Telonius has a version of it I was sure enough in a hurry to check it out. No surprise here it’s a great remake and the remixes are pretty darn cool too. You can always count on Gomma label from Germany and their electro techno dance music. Love them and I’ll keep listening to everything they release.

I’ve actually got the original version below as well as the remix by Bottin I’m really digging lately. I love Bottin’s very spacey synth disco style. It’s reminding me of 80s Italo Disco. Anyway what do you think of these? Do they sound like the original by Ian Dury? Please comment!

I like this remake of the classic Hall & Oates song I Can’t Go For That by The Bird And The Bee. This is taken from the Bird And The Bee album called Interpreting The Masters – A Tribute To Darryl Hall And John Oates. The album is full of Hall & Oates covers with the Bird And The Bee frontwomans trademark vocals. Cute and mellow tracks with a 70s radio feel you can chill to at home or relax to on your way to work.

Here’s the list of songs on the album:
    I Can’t Go For That
    Rich Girl

I love The Girl and The Robot by Royksopp in it’s original form not remixed and I love the fact that Royksopp used Robyn on vocals I think the combo was perfect. The song has a huge remix package but gosh I hate to say and I will say all of the remixes SUCK! Except this a classical orchestral interpretation of the original The Girl And The Robot. I can’t figure out why I don’t like any of the remixes but I know I love the original and it’s so good maybe the remixes just don’t come close to the original or perfect on the original. Oh well, not all remixes are good. This interpretation I do like because it’s so out there from the original. Check it out and let me know what you think.

I love it when musicians take a song that’s so well known from an era with such a specific genre and put a new spin on it. This is the fact with Dalminjo Featuring Anja Oyen Vister covering The Smiths classic There Is A Light That Never Goes Out. Dalminjo is known for jazzy housed up club and electronic music and he’s remade this very well known Smiths track and made it housed up clubby but nothing too obnoxious with the beats sort of laidback but you know midtempo. This is the remixed version below as the original version is pretty mellow minimal. Check it out here with the original Smiths version. I like it and I do like it that he’s used Anja Oyen Vister to record the vocals so hearing this with female vocals is a pretty cool thing. What do you think?

    Destroy-Rock-And-Roll-Remix-Usura-Wim-Mertens

This came out in the early 2000s so it sounds a bit trancey dated but still fun if you like your trance fast and pumping! I first heard of Wim Mertens and Close Cover when I bought Cafe Del Mar Volume 5 back in 2000 and immediately loved his approach to new age and classical music. I’m not such a big fan of new age but do love classical so I love Close Cover in it’s true original form. But the Minimalistix make a fun clubbed out version that you can hear below. Check them both out and see what you think of both.

Close Cover is off of Minimalistix’s Elements CD and Close Cover by Wim Mertens is off of Wim Merten’s Usura album. Here’s a synthy trademark Chromeo sounding mellow cover of the Eagles 70s soft rock/easy listening track I Can’t Tell You Why. Listening to the original gives me goosebumps as I have a love/hate relationship with this track. A good and bad time in my life. But the remake by Chromeo is quite fun and slightly quirky as they are known for producing. Check them out below. This cover is released as part of the DJ Kicks mix CD. It’s perfectly placed in the mix. The disc also contains some flashback 80s tracks by France Joli, Kano, Donna Allen and Leo Sayer. A great mix for anyone into synth dance pop with an 80s sound. Check out the fun promo film as well. It’s shot in the streets of Paris. You know what now that I think about this Chromeo cover at first listen it sounds like an 80s Hall & Oates track. Hmm?

This is fun sunny version of Wham!s Club Tropicana from the little known band Bossasonic. Very island/Brazil inspired. Hey who doesn’t love the Labelle disco funk hit Lady Marmalade? It’s a pretty darn big hit from the disco era and it’s still pretty popular today. I love this remake though from Lords Of Acid. They have made it into a sleazy industrial electrofied version. A bit cheesy at some points when the moaning comes in (ok that’s signature Lords Of Acid) but the beats are pretty darn cool still. This remake is 10 years old … wow time flies but I think it’s still got legs. It doesn’t sound too dated.

  17. Supernature (William Orbit’s Mix) by Erasure

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

Erasure released Supernature as a B side to their single Blue Savannah back in 1989 just after their big successful Chains Of Love song came out a couple of years prior. So this was pretty darn big. Lots of great remixes of Blue Savannah and of course this awesome remix of Supernature by William Orbit. The Cerrone disco classic was reinvented in a whole new style. This is a pretty darn great remake and I still listen to. It has slight touches of the disco sound but also has a very synth background – more in line with the 80s synth sound that Vince Clarke was known for.

This version is pretty darn long and again it’s pretty darn good. I love the Cerrone version of Supernature and I really do love this as well. Cerrone and along with Giorgio Moroder are my 2 favorite disco producers and this original is still one of my favorite Euro Disco tracks. Listen below and compare the two versions.

Hey this is a fun version of the Mazzy Star classic Fade Into You. This one has the voice of Jarvis Cocker from the indie UK band Pulp. Into U is pulled from the Richard X Presents His X-Factor Vol. 1 album which also includes tracks and hits with the vocals of Annie, Kelis, Sugababes and Tiga. It’s a pretty darn great and very underrated album and well worth owning if you are at all into remakes, remixes and sampling as it sure contains tons of samples from famous recordings. But this remake is pretty worth the album since I do love Fade Into You very much and it’s always nice to hear remakes of it.

Check the two versions out and write a comment. The [Re: Jazz] version is much more mellower and of course perfect played by [Re: Jazz]. I can just picture it performed in an intimate jazz club whereas the version by Lisa Stansfield is perfect in a nightclub or heard from a radio station. I love them both.

Don’t know much about this release of Birth, School, Work, Death by Manhead Featuring Christian Cruz but I sure do know the original by The Godfathers. The one hit wonder modern rockers that I heard countless times on Live 105. It’s a pretty darn good track the original that is but the remake is not as exciting as the original but it really does grow on you. What do you think? It’s a midtempo clubby electro sounding update and yes it truly does grow on you. It’s quite fun!

Wow? What can I say about this remake to Disco’s Revenge? I loved the original version of Disco’s Revenge by Gusto back in the mid to late 90s. It was one of those house/club tracks that you’d find in the countless double mix CD’s available for sale. It was the kind of track that would really get you more into the groove of things as it would be perfect in a mix. It was that kind of a track. Nothing too big but still great and a semi hit around 1996. Well what Maxence has done is completely remade the track with a piano. His piano playing is amazing and I found this version on MEZZANINE de L’ALCAZAR volume 5 – Dinner Time by Rouge Rouge mix CD and I was like WOW! What have they done? It’s awesome!

This remake comes off of his Modern Rhapsodies CD which also has versions of Behind The Wheel by Depeche Mode, Go by Moby, Don’t You Want Me by Felix, Windowlicker by Aphex Twin and more! Imagine all of your favorite electronic and dance tracks all remade with only a piano? WOW pretty cool.

Check out both versions of Disco’s Revenge and comment on what you think of the two versions.
