Best thing about this mix is it’s got Personal Jesus (The Stargate Mix) by Depeche Mode from their excellent new Depeche Mode Remixes 2 Collection 1981 – 2011 a greatest hits collection of greatest remixes. So tasty. Any Depeche Mode fan or non fan will love this tasty platter of 3 CDs worth of remixes. It’s an amazing collection of remixes. Trust me I love it! Le Piaf by Parov Stelar keeps the tradition of the electro-swing sound going and this is an excellent cut from his awesome and groovy La Fete EP with 3 excellent electro-swing cuts that will keep you swingin’ all night! Next up is I Wanna Dance (Boy Norty Edit) by The Cool Notes an 80s pop/dance song that’s been updated with a very new 80s inspired sound. This will get you in the 80s mode and have you dancing the night away in your home or on your way to work or even in your car. Just don’t drive too fast. I Wanna Dance (Boy Norty Edit) by The Cool Notes is off of Backstreet Brit Funk compiled by Joey Negro and it’s accompanying EP Backstreet Brit Funk Re-Edits tasty music for any disco and funk fanatics. Up next is Cyclone (Dumme Jungs Remix) by Dirty Disco Youth and Duo Synchron with bangin’ chopped up house beats with some electro banging fuzzy beats. So tasty it’s almost like you are on a major caffeine high that’s about to make you explode. Not much to say about Raise Your Weapon (Madeon Extended Remix) by Deadmau5 as we all know that Deadmau5 produces some of the best dance music around so it’s got to be good right?

Which brings us to the disco or nu disco section of our Top Ten Best Dance Electronic Songs July 2011 with 5 very sexy very funky nu disco cuts that will groove you along. Tinpong, Toomy Disco, 6th Borough Project, Newcleus, Pional all keep the disco sound progressing. I love it!

Since Depeche Mode came out with an excellent 3CD remix collection of songs remixed called Depeche Mode Remixes 2 Collection 1981 – 2011 I wanted to do several posts in the coming days related to other covers or remixes or tracks that sample Depeche Mode’s excellent catalog of electronic synth pop/rock tracks. Since Depeche Mode is one of favorite bands going back to the early 80s I always look for any remixes, covers or anyone sampling their music.

Playgroup did a pretty nice reinterpretation of Behind The Wheel here almost 10 years ago now during the height of the Electroclash movement along with bands like Miss Kittin & The Hacker, Fischespooner and Ladytron. Behind The Wheel by Playgroup is very similar in sound to the original Depeche Mode version from their Music For The Masses album it just sounds hip and more sonically fresher than from what was on Music For The Masses. Although I love the remixes on Depeche Mode’s Behind The Wheel Maxi Single as there are multiple versions and remixes of both Behind The Wheel and Route 66. The version missing on the Behind The Wheel single is the Behind The Wheel/Route 66 mash-up that I’ve come to love over the years. If you can get your hands on that it’s awesome!

Depeche Mode Remixes 2 Collection 1981 – 2011 also contains a new remix of Behind The Wheel by Vince Clarke the once member of Depeche Mode who left Depeche Mode to start Yaz and Erasure.

Other versions of Depeche Mode’s Behind The Wheel you might like are Behind The Wheel by Maxence Cyrin which completely reinvents Behind The Wheel as a classical piano piece. Worth it highly not only for Behind The Wheel but Maxence Cyrin’s Modern Rhapsodies album also contains classical piano reinterpretations of other well known dance tracks remade in classical piano format. This is not cheesy stuff trust me they are good. Classical Piano versions of Smokebelch by Sabres Of Paradise, Windowlicker by Aphex Twin, Unfinished Sympathy by Massive Attack, Go by Moby, L.F.O. by L.F.O and many more dance cuts reinterpreted by Maxence Cyrin.

Or you might dig this industrial version of Behind The Wheel by OB1. It’s not industrial rock in no means it’s reminding me of bands from the late 80s/early 90s bands like Front 242 or Frontline Assembly which I quite dig as Depeche Mode’s music lends itself very well to the industrial sound. So I recommend this single by OB1 for their version of Behind The Wheel.

Deconstruction was the reliable dance music label from the UK to turn to in the very early 90s! I mean come on they released the huge Black Box singles Everybody, Everybody, I Don’t Know Anybody Else, Strike It Up and of course their huge album Dreamland. But it was more than Black Box. There were huge acts that came from this legendary label. M People, K-Klass, Kylie was there for a bit, Robert Miles, Felix with their huge hit Don’t You Want Me, Hyper Go Go with their hit High, The Grid, N-Joi and of course this little known act and cover of a Chic song Evolution doing Everybody Dance.

This song Everybody Dance is a very similar remake of the original disco classic by Chic. It’s a bit more uplifting and soulful and a bit infused with a gospel house feel. It’s nothing original but this came out during the disco revival thing and was a pretty big hit for Evolution. Although later in the late 90s and early 2000s Evolutions sound completely changed to a more progressive house sound. Check out their album Unnatural Selection and their hit Walking On Fire. Completely different sound but it was obvious that they would go that direction and signed to John Digweed’s Bedrock label.

I like it actually and it sounds like something RuPaul could have pulled off back in the 90s or it could have perfectly fit in the film Paris Is Burning from ’91. Though there’s no RuPaul here this remake called Pseudo Wind by Sana Doris comes to us by way of the In Flagranti guys by way of Codek Records. So it’s gotta be cool right? This is from the 12″ SOUNDS SUPERB VOL. 6 and it’s worth it. If you can’t get your hands on it do it as fast as you can. Recoil is Alan Wilder from Depeche Mode and this single, Faith Healer  from the album Bloodline was riding on the HUGE success that Depeche Mode had recently experienced with their Violator album. Bloodline was certainly nothing close to the massive success that Violator had but this release is certainly worth noting if those of you Depeche Mode fans don’t know anything about this release and the single Faith Healer which features the vocals of Douglas McCarthy of Nitzer Ebb. Faith Healer came out just when ‘techno’ and electronic albums were slowly seeing major label releases stateside and this single along with releases by Eon, T99, The Prodigy, Meat Beat Manifesto, Baby Ford and LFO was in heavy rotation on my players in the car or on the stereo at home.

Faith Healer which is a cover of an old Alex Harvey (Scottish blues and rock vocalist) song, includes some pretty darn cool remixes. The remix that I came to love on the single to Faith Healer is the Barracuda Remix which is credited to a Richard M Hall who just happens to be Moby! Other remixes on Faith Healer include the Disbeliever Remix which was by LFO who I totally dug back in the day. LFO’s Frequencies album and single We Are Back is still high on my list of favorite tracks from back in the day. This remix is certainly quite beat and bass heavy. Mark Bell from LFO later worked with Bjork on several of her album

A great remix package if you happen to get your hands on it and it’s highly recommended but if not check out the Barracuda Remix, LFO’s Disbeliever Mix, several other remixes and original version of Faith Healer by Recoil below. The Batman TV Theme is one of my all time favorite TV show themes and when I heard this remake by Lemon I was quickly hooked. Lemon have taken the original Batman TV theme and given it the electronic loungy treatment with a beefier bassier sound. It’s basically a remix here and I love it. If you like anything from bands like Ursula 1000, Fantastic Plastic Machine, Nicola Conte, Montefiori Cocktail, Chris Joss and Arling & Cameron you will dig their sound. And besides this is a really cool remake of a very kitschy, campy TV show theme but you have the kitsch and camp multiplied by 1000!

This Batman (Twist!) track is off of Lemon’s With A Twist album which is full of those loungy, go-go, 60s inspired fun, playful jazzy electronic tunes. One of my other favorites from With A Twist is Let’s Go! BIKINI. It’s one of those quirky, playful lo-fi electronic tracks very reminiscent to Perry & Kingsley with the added modern electronic beefiness of today. It’s so much fun! You also have a very fun sample from The Surfari’s Wipe Out track added in as a bonus! So you kind of get how fun this album is!

I decided to include David McCallum’s version below as the original and not the very original by Neal Hefti that was used on the TV show open for the Batman 1960s TV show. The original certainly has a lot of spy TV show music elements with the surf guitar music very much inspired by bands like The Ventures who covered the Batman TV show theme too and The Marketts who also did a cover of the Batman TV show theme. David McCallum’s version is off a very excellent CD series called Ultra Lounge and this version of Batman Theme is taken off the the amazing CD called Ultra-Lounge, Vol. 13: TV Town which is chock full of 60s TV show themes including The Munsters Theme, The Fugitive Theme, The Man From U.N.C.L.E./The Spies, The Mod Squad Theme and many more.

Ok whatever you say and I don’t really care what you say I am the worlds biggest Pet Shop Boys fan. Since I heard West End Girls in 1985 I was hooked. The guys are very talented at what they do and they have released some of best music in the last almost 30 years. So I love the Pet Shop Boys. I also love any remixes or remakes of their music that I hear.

So I ran across this wonderful house bordering on trance remake of their hit West End Girls by James Talk & Ridney and I love what I hear. These guys are great and they keep collaborating on many different cuts and I’m hooked at what they release. Taking old recordings and sampling and remixing them is what http://www.DestroyRockAndRoll.com is all about and Yolanda Be Cool & DCUP’s remake/remix and sampling job of the classic Renato Carosone track Tu Vuo Fa L’americano for We No Speak Americano is a fine example of that. Yolanda Be Cool are the Australian act that have sampled this classic Italian easy listening/jazz into a upbeat electro-swing/swing-house hit. It’s fun, playful and very lively. This remake definitely keeps in the tradition of electro swing hits making big waves across the globe except here in the states. What’s going on?

A couple of years ago I heard this awesome compilations called Swing Style and Renato Carosone’s track Tu Vuo Fa L’americano was featured on it including other older swinging jazz cuts as well as the new wave of electro-swing artists like Waldeck, Parov Stelar and more making hit underground dance tracks. Was really nice and was also very nice to get this amazing remake by Yolanda Be Cool & DCUP doing We No Speak Americano. Bobby ‘O’ Orlando is one of the greatest dance music producers ever. He’s produced countless musicians which include Pet Shop Boys, The Flirts, Divine and so on. So no wonder his music is sampled often. Sampling often his famous Flirts song Passion the 80s hi-nrg hit for The Flirts post Jukebox song. Passion was an underground dance hit for The Flirts and Bobby Orlando so that is why the bassline has been sampled countless times in many tracks including this Jon Of The Pleased Wimmin song Passion from 1996. Was a nice underground hit as well for Jon Of The Pleased Wimmin getting an official release on Paul Oakenfold’s Perfecto label. Passion by Jon Of The Pleased Wimmin samples Passion by The Flirts and Bobby Orlando perfectly with a very hi-nrg sound.

Jon Of The Pleased Wimmin’s sound was part of the nu energy/trance/dance/hi-nrg sound that peaked around 93 and 94in the mid 90s and he had another bigger had on Perfecto called Give Me Strength which was included on Paul Oakenfolds Perfection CD which I absolutely love and still listen to. It was the mix CD Oakenfold released just before the huge mix CD, Tranceport!

Jon Of The Pleased Wimmin was also involved with The Greatest Hits and Remixes compilation of Divine music that was produced by Bobby Orlando which came out in 1996.

One of my all time favorite remakes is America (I Love America) by Full Intention. This is a remake of the Patrick Juvet disco classic I Love America from 1978 and this Full Intention remake came out initially in 1995 and later repackaged for an American audience in 1996 and released by Big Beat Records a division of Warner Atlantic. Hey does corporate America really get dance music? They were really trying in the 90s and since the nasty Bush years came and went things are starting to look a little more promising for dance music again. I’m really glad that America (I Love America) got an actual release as it’s an excellent example of 1990s house music with a slight disco touch! Very club friendly. This remake of the Patrick Juvet disco classic I Love America put Full Intention on the map. They have done countless tracks and remixes since then and they are still going strong! Full Intention were all over the place with major major remix credits. Remember Free by Ultra Nate? This remix basically samples the “I Love America” words from the original Patrick Juvet song.

Ok I’m not sure about the whole message of I Love America nowadays as it’s a completely different place today than it was back in 1996. I still love America but sure do need a change! My favorite version of America (I Love America) is the Original Sugar Daddy 12″ Mix but you can check out the Full Intention 12″ Vocal Mix and the original album version of Patrick Juvet’s classic which clocks in at 14 minutes!!! Also check out these excellent new remixes of Full Intention’s I Love America too! These new remixes of America (I Love America) were released last year!
