A sexy sleazed up electro synth version of Prince’s sexy, orgasmic ballad from Purple Rain? Yes that’s what Xlover have done to remake this classic Prince song from the cool soundtrack to the film Purple Rain. Ok the singing is a bit off but hey it’s a fun project off of the oh so cool International Deejay Gigolo Records from Berlin, DJ Hell’s label with the Amanda Lepore logo. Ok that’s a bit of old news but I’ve been a big fan of International Deejay Gigolo Records. Just recently they released CD Twelve from the long running series of cool electro, dance, punk, new wave, synth based tracks from the label. This collection of songs certainly recommended if you are into this type of music as it contains cool remixes of songs including A Fifth Of Beethoven (Soulwax Remix) by Walter Murphy. Yes the classic disco track from Saturday Night Fever and other remixes like Peaches Lose You remixed by DJ Hell.

Anyway back to Xlover and Darling Nikki … Darling Nikki is off of the Xlover album Pleasure & Romance and the album is chock full of sleazy, sexy dark electro vox cuts. Check out more Xlover cuts here.

  2. So Phat! Cover Sheila E. With A Love Bizarre

I love buying compilations because with compilations you always discover unique tracks that never get heard anywhere, tracks that are remakes that just get discovered so I love the compilations a lot because it’s one of the best ways to discover new music. Such is the case with this remake of an 80s classic track A Love Bizarre by So Phat! I discovered this cover on Erotic Lounge 2 pictured below. It’s one of those Hotel Costes, Buddha Bar type compilations broken down to 2 discs one being the slower mellower disc the other being the more upbeat collection. They contain a great collection of tracks and this Sheila E. cover is certainly the discovery in this disc. The original was released 6 years ago in 2004 but I just recently got this collection and it’s certainly a good discovery. Check out both the Sheila E. version which has some vocals by Prince and the new So Phat! version of A Love Bizarre.

  3. Nasty Girl (Full Mix) by Inaya Day

Born again Christian, Vanity’s songs were sexy and risque back when they came out and most of them are pretty forgettable today but I still dig Nasty Girl as it’s a great track. This update by Inaya Day is pretty good also. It’s sped up a bit and it’s more of an electronic electro-dance track compared to the Prince produced funk/dance track of the original.

I found Inaya Day’s version of Nasty Girl on Hed Kandi’s Disco Kandi 05.04 – a great collection of discoish electronic dance club tracks. It’s one of the better collections of music anyone can buy. Do check it out.

Check them out as their quite unique on their own. What do you think of the two?

  4. Erotic City by Supafly Featuring Deni Hines

I’m a BIG Prince fan but only pre Batman … anything after is just crap. Erotic City was one of Prince’s cult B sides that made to radio. It was the B side to Let’s Go Crazy and came out back in 1984 off of the Purple Rain soundtrac. It was an underground hit and I have to say that this version of Erotic City by Supafly featuring the great vocals of Deni Hines comes really close to the original. The cool thing about this version is it does not contain the stupid chipmunk voice that Prince has on the original. Not sure why that’s there in the original but I suppose Prince thought it was a good idea at the time to include it as part of the song. I think maybe he thought that since the subject matter of Erotic City was so risque that he thought he’d add the cute cartoony voices. Oh well it worked back then but it’s a little tired now.

But the Supafly version is a nice update. What do you think? I think Prince covers are good and some bad but this remake is quite nice and definitely worth multiple listens! Don’t you think?

    Let me know.

I found this version of Erotic City off of the absolutely fabulous Nu Cool series (Nu Cool 55) from Hed Kandi. Love their releases and this one is pretty cool.
