Everybody Be Somebody by Ruffneck featuring Yavahn was such a big hit when it came out in 1995. I remember hearing it the first time thinking boy they sure did a great job sampling Yello with their 80s new wave dance hit Bostich. Bostich being one of my favorite synth, pop, new wave dance songs and recently had heard a techno remix by Joey Beltram back in 1992 off of FFRR’s Only For The Headstrong compilation, Ruffneck’s take on Bostich was fresh new and very clubby!
Basically if you haven’t heard Everybody Be Somebody it samples the Everybody Be Somebody vocals from Yello’s Bostich track and Yavahn sings the same words over a 4 to the floor house beat. The remixes for Everybody Be Somebody are quite nice too. My Favorite is the Pepermint Jam Remix but the original version still nice it’s a toss up for me between the original and the Peppermint Jam Remix but I also love the Henry Street Mix which adds a bit of a disco flavor, Benji Edit is quite nice, Hani’s Looooong Mix has been given a bit of a tribal treatment and the MAW Remix has a sound of your typical house club tune from the mid 90s. All good though and worth exploring.
Enjoy!
