Armand Van Heldens classic house hit has been given the updated remix treatment and it’s awesome. It’s been perfectly remixed by Starkillers and this thing rocks. Great electro breakdowns and and euphoric beats makes for an excellent track to get down to at the club or speed up in your car cruising the streets. Love it. Preview original 90s version and the 2010 remixed version by Starkillers below.
This song was such a big deal for me back in the mid 90s that I overplayed it. It was a big pop dance crossover hit from Italy. Later I also discovered a Rollo remix and started playing that version as well. So it has a special place for me as it was def one of the bigger dance pop tunes that came out in the 90s. I was quick to want to check out when I heard about a remake of it. Sure to my surprise it’s a pretty darn cool version by Matt Helders featuring Nesreen Shah. Matt Helders is the drummer from the Arctic Monkeys and I have not idea who Nesreen Shah is but they have certainly updated a club classic 90s dance pop song and made it quite the energetic drummified bouncy update. I like it. What do you think? The track is from Ministry Of Sounds Uncovered CD which is a real cool collection of covers remakes etc. Well worth it to own!
When Weapon Of Choice came out back in 2001 it was a pretty big hit. The track was a quirky retro sounding fun electronic masterpiece. I really dug it and the video was fun too and starred Christopher Walken of all things. So it was a classic piece of work. I’m really partial to the original version of Weapon Of Choice but this new remix by Lazy Rich is pretty fun. It’s got more of a club/electro sound. Stuff that’s really big nowadays. It still has elements of the original track but definitely is an update. Works for me in some ways but again I love the original just a bit more and as always the original video is so much fun. What do you think of the two versions? Which version do you like?
This one’s a fun remake cover track of the popular disco classic Every 1’s A Winner by Hot Chocolate. Electrotheque keep the spirit of the original but they add a funky house robotic groove to their version which somewhat similar to Daft Punks sound which is pretty darn cool. Most of the vocals are removed in this remake except for quiet robotic vox thrown in all of over the place. I don’t remember hearing this back when it came out in 1998 (even though I was buying up all kinds of music back then) when dance music was all over the place but I discovered on a compilation about 5 years ago and couldn’t believe that I had missed such a cool remake. Disco songs were being remixed and remade all over the place in the 90s so for some odd reason I had missed this but glad I discovered it. Even though I like You Sexy Thing, Hot Chocolates bigger hit this song in my book is the stronger of the two and this remix/remake by Electrotheque works wonders. Enjoy both versions below.
Finding a remix of one of my favorite songs by INXS let alone one of my favorite songs of the 80s was a pretty cool thing and I love this remix/remake of the INXS song Original Sin by Kash. Whos is Kash? I don’t really know but they’ve got a great bouncy club remake of this awesome new wave masterpiece. The song that put INXS on the map off of their first album has been given the remix treatment. The original version is off the INXS album The Swing from 1984.
Check out both Original Sin and remix version below:
Here’s a fun dance hit that samples the classic famous song Fantasy by Earth Wind & Fire. James Talk & Ridney have turned the hit Fantasy into a club house smash and I’m really digging it. It’s very fun and a great track. High energy and fit for clubs and fast cars cruising the streets. Released by Defected … Enjoy!
Here’s an electrofied, beat heavy update/remix to a very fun house track that came out ten years ago … in 2000. This new version takes you further into outer space with the updated remix treatment that it has received. I do like it and it’s very robotic and very current. The original Spaced Invader is a fun very club friendly pop/house track which was a big hit in 2000 in the clubs and the dance charts. You be the judge and see which version you like?
Theme from A ‘Summer Place’ by Percy Faith falls into cheesy elevator music territory. It’s a piece of music that most anyone will recognize when they hear it. I love though what Kenneth Bager has done by sampling Theme From ‘A Summer Place’. Check out the original and sampled version by Kenneth Bager below. The new version contains the haunting violin music of Jean Luc Ponty and the beautiful vocals of Nikolaj Grandjean singing Love Won’t Leave Me Alone … when you’re gone. I think this is a great job at sampling something that most folks will recognize and making it completely different where you’ll want to hear it where as Them From ‘A Summer Place’ in it’s original form you kind of skip or turn off if it ever came on. Check them out below. And download the rest of Kenneth Bager’s album Fragment From A Space Cadet. It’s an awesome album and there are several masterpieces including two tracks by Julie Cruise from Twin Peaks fame. She does a remake of Les Fleur on Fragments. So this is a great collection of chill electronic vocal and instrumental cuts.
I love it when they take an old rock classic song and fuck it up. Well in this case it’s not really fucked up I think it’s perfected upon. Remixed to death. I love it and I love this remix. The whole package of 5 different remixes are awesome. Perfect for todays dancefloor or to blast from your speakers speeding down the highway. Or whatever will get you off. Joan Jett & The Blackhearts deserve the remix treatment and Alex Gaudino and Jason Rooney have done an wicked remake and sampling job with the original vocals from Joan Jett. At least it sounds like the original vox. You think? Now after hearing this which came out last year I want to hear more classics remixed. Let’s remix everything shall we?
I Feel Love is one of my favorite all time tracks. I love Giorgio Moroder’s masterpiece of a disco dance track that he created. So I’m always up to hearing new remixes or versions of his original classic sung by Miss born again herself Donna Summer. This remix from 5 or so years ago is quite amazing. I think I Feel Love are the beginnings of electronic music when you check out the original you can certainly hear the awesome bassline that addictive sound that makes you want to get on the dance floor and groove. Anyway Qattara have kept that original bassline and have basically taken the classic disco song to new levels. They’ve basically beefed up the sound and brought it into todays production. Check out both below as I know you will be quite happy with this remix.
This is a case where I love the original just as much as the remix that John Digweed & Nick Muir have concocted. The original is deep dark and very tribal sounding. The remix takes me back to Global Underground mix CD series territory when big mega clubs were huge and folks would go to dance all night long. I’m loving both versions and I think it’s worth knowing more about this guy Abe Duque. The original is taken from the Don’t Be So Mean album from last year.
Armand Van Helden is in top form here and he’s really back now, like it was in 96/97 when he did the countless awesome remixes for Tori Amos, New Order, Jimmy Somerville, Apollo 440, CJ Bolland, Sash!, Snap, Nuyorican Soul and more and more and more. This remix though is quite the hottest thing I’ve heard for a long ass time when it comes to remixes. It’s got loads of energy and I love Pharrell’s vocals on here in combination with Uffie’s. The original by hottie Uffie is your typical electro hip hop rap/vocal pop cut but this remix delivers 1000%. Right on Armand! Original version from Uffie’s Sex Dreams And Denim Jeans CD that’s just come out.
I Thought It Was You still sounds fresh like it did back in 1997 and it’s one of my favorite recordings of all time if we’re speaking of house music. It’s up there. The guys from Full Intention have taken on the alias of Sex-O-Sonique and have sampled a perfect track for this release. It is damn quite amazing. It was released by the late great FFRR label that was owned by Pete Tong. Well at least I think it’s late and great as I have not seen any releases from them as of late. Either way enjoy this track as it’s one of my faves and hear the origins of where the track comes from by Herbie Hancock.
Billie Holiday’s version of Pennies From Heaven is my favorite compared to everyone else that’s done it. It’s so beautiful, calm mellow somewhat moody but very beautiful. When I heard of this remix from the Remixed and Reimagined CD I was quick to snatch it right up! I love remixes (if you haven’t noticed already) and will buy any remix of an existing song including the oldies. I was quite surprised at how good the Count De Money Remix is of Pennies From Heaven. I just wished it was longer. It almost feels or sounds like it starts in the middle. Those record execs and their stupid decisions to do such a thing. Give me the 12″ and day, longer versions pleeze! Either way though I shouldn’t complain because I can have my Billie Holiday songs remixed. The entire collection of Remixed and Reimagined is great. Worth it for anyone that likes remixes or is a Billie Holiday fan but not a purist. Came out in 2007.
Twenty years ago this remix to Beach Bump got me grooving, grooving real good. I caught a listen to it just the other day in my iTunes and wow I’m surprised that it’s still sounding as fresh as it sounded back when it first came out in 1990. The original Beach Bump is off of Baby Fords “OOO” The World Of Baby Ford album which also includes a cover of Children Of The Revolution. Known as one of the guys that kick started the Acid House movement, Baby Ford is one of my all time favorite musicians. There’s a whole list of tracks of his that I still listen to over and over again including Disconoddy, Oochie Koochie, Fetish, Move On, Children Of The Revolution, Normal, Chikki Chikki Ahh Ahh and this cut Beach Bump. Check it out you’ll know what I mean by still sounding fresh today.
Techno classic masterpiece from the late 80s gets a jazzed up house groove. I’m there. This is a pretty darn great reinterpretation of one of the early techno classics by Rhythim is Rhythim, Derrick May’s band. Where as the original is somewhat slow this version by The 10th Planet is groovin’ fast. The 10th Planet are Derrick May and Michael James and this is the remix/remake of Strings Of Life as remixed by Octave One. Lovin’ it. Check them both out below you’ll know what I’m talking about. Lifted off of Remixed SuSu 2.
Canadian 80s Hi NRG singer gets the sample treatment by LRM & Libex with Liftered. This is awesome and brings back the energy of the early 80s high energy music. Just when folks thought that disco was dead this Miquel Brown song So Many Men, So Little Time kickstarted the Hi NRG movement. LRM & Libex lift the bassline from So Many Men, So Little Time and make it a current sounding club banger. Worth every penny! Check them both out below.
This track came out last year but I’m now rediscovering it again. It’s got so much frenetic funky house energy that it could catch a dancefloor on fire. Check it out it’s jackin’! Taken from the Fake Blood Fix Your Accent EP.
Impressive US House track by Dennis Ferrer really didn’t need the remix treatment as the original is awesome as it is. I first heard of Sinfonia Della Notte by Dennis Ferrer off of the House Masters: Dennis Ferrer album last year and immediately fell in love with it. When I heard about this remix I was hastily interested in checking it out but unfortunately it fell flat compared to the original. I love John Dahlback’s music hands down but this remix he did is quite weak. Check it out what do you think?
This is pretty darn cool. 30 awesome dance tracks for free from Amazon! Loving Amazon more and more as they have tons of free tunes they offer for download.
Pump Up The Jam the original version which came out in 1998 was a early Belgian house club classic that actually played on the radio. It became a worldwide smash hit going all the way to the top of the pop charts. This new version a remix by D.O.N.S. which is actually several years old now is a fresh take on the original hit by Technotronic. It’s got a more modern beat to it and it’s more in line with the sound of the clubs now. I like it but there’s something about the original that still takes me back to the days of acid house, new beat and an awesome era in club music. Both worth owning. Check them out below.
The original Pump Up The Jam is off of the Technotronic album of the same name.
I love Heartbeat in it’s original form by Taana Gardner but this remix from 2001 is pretty darn cool. It’s much more sped up so it’s not as mellow as the original is so it’s more geared for the club floor. Heartbeat was originally released in 1981 off of West End Records and it’s still pretty darn cool. It’s so laidback and chill but very early 1980s disco. Worth it if you disco lovers have never heard of. Heartbeat and Work That Body are the only hits Taana Gardner is known so she had a small career in disco music. Taana Gardner has worked with some very legendary folks from that era including Larry Levan and Dr. Buzzard’s Original Savannah Band.
This remix of Heartbeat is part of a disc called Dance For Life West End Records Celebrates the 10th Anniversary of LIFEbeat. It’s def worth owning as there are new remixes of old West End Records classics including an Angel Moraes remix of Work That Body by Taana Gardner. Check it out!
I love it when musicians take a song that’s so well known from an era with such a specific genre and put a new spin on it. This is the fact with Dalminjo Featuring Anja Oyen Vister covering The Smiths classic There Is A Light That Never Goes Out. Dalminjo is known for jazzy housed up club and electronic music and he’s remade this very well known Smiths track and made it housed up clubby but nothing too obnoxious with the beats sort of laidback but you know midtempo. This is the remixed version below as the original version is pretty mellow minimal. Check it out here with the original Smiths version. I like it and I do like it that he’s used Anja Oyen Vister to record the vocals so hearing this with female vocals is a pretty cool thing. What do you think?
This is a vinyl promo release of the Dirty South Remix for Just Can’t Get Enough – the Depeche Mode synth pop classic that kick started their 25+ year career in the music biz. It’s a pretty darn good remix by Dirty South the Australian DJ/musician that’s known for his electro house sound. The remix keeps the original famous synth sound but it takes a while to actually hear something borrowed from the original Depeche Mode track but I still dig it. It’s very fresh and now … well from 3 years ago part of the Depeche Mode greatest hits CD that came out then with their single Martyr – their 45th single. It’s always fun to see the video to Just Can’t Get Enough as well. Check it out below.
Give it 2 Me is a pretty darn good song on Madonna’s Hard Candy album. This version of Give It 2 Me is a remix off of the CD single for Give It 2 me and it’s one of the better remixes on the disc. It’s the Eddie Amador House Lovers mix. The CD single contains lots of choices but among all the talent that have been hired to remix this track only one has actually been able to create something original so I was a bit disappointed with the whole collection and unfortunately failed to even listen to the Eddie Amador House Lovers Mix. Just earlier today I was a clothing store and I heard this version playing loudly on the system and quickly thought to come back and check out the collection and sure enough they were playing this version. So at least the collection is worth it for this version. Check out both the original and the remix of Give It 2 Me by Madonna below. Whatcha think?
Give It 2 Me (Fedde Le Grand Remix)
Give It 2 Me (Oakenfold Extended Remix)
Give It 2 Me (Oakenfold Drums In Mix)
Give It 2 Me (Eddie Amador Club)
Give It 2 Me (Eddie Amador House Lovers Mix)
Give It 2 Me (Tong & Spoon Wonderland Mix)
Give It 2 Me (Jody Den Broeder Club)
Give It 2 Me (Sly And Robbie Bongo Mix)
Don’t you just love remixes, remakes covers? Don’t you love it when a musician samples a famous recording and incorporate it into theirs? I love it … I absolutely love taking old recordings and making something completely new to with them. Who needs it to sound like everything else that’s blasting out of the radio [...]more →
