  1. Sucker DJ’s Sample Don Ray With Lotta Lovin’

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

Good old disco songs updated? That’s my cup of tea. I love me some disco, one of my favorite genres in the dance electronic genre. I can never get enough of it! If you don’t like disco then I don’t like you! Gosh what the fuck were they thinking of when they were burning and destroying disco records in the late 70s? Americans are so sensitive to dance music! Well they must be sensitive to a lot more because the same freaks did the same thing to the Dixie Chics! Whatever!

Anyways this song is one of my favorite disco songs. Got To Have Loving by Don Ray from the album The Garden Of Love and produced by Cerrone is a classic from the late 70s. The Sucker DJ’s have taken that classic disco tune from the late 70s and have given it the house/club treatment here and sped it up and adapted it to todays ears. It’s not a remix or is it? Are they sampling the song or not? Can’t really tell but whatever it is it’s awesome. Download now and download more from Sucker DJ’s here.

Spacey Electro Disco? Then Marcel Chapman’s new release Take Me is your cup of tea. This release has a very late 70s early 80s synth disco sound that I’m digging. If you are at all a fan of Bottin or Tensnake then the cuts by Marcel Chapman will certainly delight your ears for sure. The album Take Me has a nice mix of disco cuts one after another. I’m digging it and my favorite by far is Space Invaders (1984 Mix). Check it out below I’m sure you will dig it too.

  3. Love Dancing by Ray Mang Samples Gary’s Gang

Ray Mang samples Gary’s Gang on his track Love Dancing. The Gary’s Gang tack Let’s Lovedance Tonight is a fun disco song from the 70s but I love what he’s done with his instrumental track Love Dancing. It’s nicely incorporated into a new disco song for now. Really cool. Ray Mang’s album Mangled Again is chock full of cool disco flavored electronic cuts. Check out his cool disco flavored tunes and enjoy!

Really digging this track Dancing In Val D’Isere 1970 by Sare Havlicek. In fact the whole album, Toscana Nights is quite amazing if you are at all into spacey disco bordering italo and the cool synth sound from the late 70s and 80s! I have not heard of Sare Havlicek prior to just purchasing his album Toscana Nights on a fluke but I’m so glad I did it because this is one of those great albums you will play over and over again. 7. Malente Sample That’s The Way (I Like It) by KC & The Sunshine Band

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

This is a really fun groovy remix of I Like It by Malente. The original version of I Like It is quite similar to the original That’s The Way (I Like It) by KC & The Sunshine Band but this remix by Riva Star gives it a little different twist to the disco sound and makes it more up to date and hip club friendly. Overall Malente has taken and old tired disco song that you’ve probably have been hearing for 30+ years and have found it on countless compilations and made it better and more now. Anyone into disco will enjoy both the original I Like It which you can see in the video below and the Riva Star remix below. Feel free to sample the The KC & The Sunshine Band’s version as well. Once you are done check out more Malente as his stuff is awesome by clicking on the album artwork below.

I stumbled onto this great track called Gotta Move by Koen Groeneveld & Addy Van Der Zwan accidentally and have been playing it back to back now for several days. It’s basically a great job sampling Lipps Inc’s Funkytown songs bassline and it’s on a repetitive loop withing a great house, club, electro track. I dig it. Being a true fan of Funkytown by Lipps Inc I truly always await reinterpretations or remixes or great sampling jobs by new tracks and this one wins the prize for sure. It’s very simple but it’s groovy. Check it out. It’s off of several eps called Disko Tek. This being off of Disko Tek 2. Worth it for sure!

  9. Over The Hill by Tim Taylor VS Thor 54 Samples Hills Of Katmandu by Tantra

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

Such an epic disco classic track Tantra’s Hills of Katmandu is and Tim Taylor VS Thor 54 have actually perfected on that classic track. Both versions are quite amazing and Hills Of Katmandu is one of my all time favorite disco tracks. It still sounds quite fresh and way ahead of it’s time when this was first released back in 1979 30+ years ago. Ok it’s not your typical disco track that you would find on an American disco compilation but it’s so worth hearing, owning, loving and appreciating. It’s classic underground, it’s very underground dance club, Studio 54 and so on. Those of you disco lovers will appreciate the original here. It’s a fine example of Euro Electro Disco bordering on Hi-NRG and Italo Disco that would later come into the mainstream. The original, original version of Hills of Katmandu is over 16 minutes long. The version I have here is a mix by legendary San Francisco DJ/musician Patrick Cowley which makes it a little shorter but adding a little more deeper bassline.

You will also appreciate the remake by Tim Taylor VS Thor 54. It’s tribal techno electro house at it’s best. Released back in 2001 almost 10 years now but still sounding fresh, It’s certainly a great update. They have sampled Hills Of Katmandu perfectly. Check them both out below.

  10. Timespan (Steve Moore Remix) by Majeure

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

If you like your music deep dark spacey synth then this release is pretty cool from Temporary Residence Records. I’m thinking this kind of sounds like a late 70s prog rock touches of late 70s disco sort of like the French disco band Space but a lot moodier. Timespan is such a long track nearing 20 minutes in length so quite along journey there but worth it if you like your instrumental electronic music moody with the touches of disco. I’m thinking Majeure kind of sounds like Lindstrom from Norway. But you be the judge both original version and Steve Moore Remix of Timespan below.

Ok did a post about this track Barbara Streisand by Duck Sauce a couple of weeks back and I figured it’s worth posting again. This song that Duck Sauce sample is an old disco Euro Disco classic from the late 70s. The band it’s sampled from is Boney M one of my favorite disco acts that Frank Farian produced. This remake and the original are awesome.

  12. Spooks In Space (Luke Howard & Felix Dickinson Edit) by Aural Exciters

This one’s a really quirky, fun sort of on the leftfield disco, new wave, no wave track that I really dig. I didn’t know anything about this really cool disco cut when I was growing up. I discovered it about 10 years ago after picking up the excellent disco compilation Mutant Disco from ZE Records. It’s fun really fun. Finally just earlier this year I discovered this more updated remix of the classic cut from ’79 and all I can say is it’s awesome! There’s not much difference between the two versions except that it’s slightly faster and a little groovier. If you don’t know ZE Records then you certainly have to check it out. It’s an underground New York disco/new wave label which features some really cool acts like Kid Creole & The Coconuts, Material with Nona Hendryx, Was (Not Was), Cristina, Garcons, The Waitresses, Suicide, James White & The Blacks, Caroline Loeb and many many more acts definitely worth discovering.

  13. Amplified Orchestra sample Donna McGhee’s I’m A Lovebug With I Want You!

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

I’m so loving this album by Amplified Orchestra. The album is called Play It “Disco” For me and awesome cuts. If you like any retro disco dance music then this is your kind of music. It’s not your 90s house/disco type cuts. The cuts are more along the line of sexy electro funky cuts. More underground and very sexy! The standout cut on this album is I Want You. The amazing thing is that it samples this rare disco song by Donna McGhee called I’m A Lovebug. Check them both out below. The original has a very 70s disco sound but the update with the sample is all now but very retro. Loving it and I still love the Donna McGhee original.

  14. I Don’t Want To Lose (Original Album Version) by Lime from Disco Discharge: Pink Pounders

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

I love this awesome disco music series called Disco Discharge. There are a total of 8 albums in the entire collection 4 of which were released last year and this year 4 more volumes have come out literally! I love the group Lime from the 80s very much. They are a late discovery for me. I only discovered them in the late 90s and since then I’ve been hooked. They have that classic Hi-NRG/synth dance sound and their sound is pretty original and slightly cutting edge compared to some of their other cheesier sounding counterparts.

Lime were a husband and wife duo from Montreal, Canada who had underground synth pop/dance hits like Angel Eyes, Your Love (which is a #1 billboard dance charts song) and Unexpected Lovers. Their albums had really cool artwork and if you don’t know of any of their stuff do search it out. This song is a fun track in their trademark catchy lyrics and sound. One of the coolest tracks off of the coolest compilation Disco Discharge – Pink Pounders. Most of the tracks off of this collection are Hi-NRG/synth disco dance that were big hits in clubs in the late 70s and 80s. The collection includes tracks by Divine, Patrick Cowley, The Flirts, Jermaine Jackson & Pia Zadora and many many more on the 2 disc collection.

  15. Electrotheque Cover Hot Chocolate With Every 1′s A Winner

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

This one’s a fun remake cover track of the popular disco classic Every 1′s A Winner by Hot Chocolate. Electrotheque keep the spirit of the original but they add a funky house robotic groove to their version which somewhat similar to Daft Punks sound which is pretty darn cool. Most of the vocals are removed in this remake except for quiet robotic vox thrown in all of over the place. I don’t remember hearing this back when it came out in 1998 (even though I was buying up all kinds of music back then) when dance music was all over the place but I discovered on a compilation about 5 years ago and couldn’t believe that I had missed such a cool remake. Disco songs were being remixed and remade all over the place in the 90s so for some odd reason I had missed this but glad I discovered it. Even though I like You Sexy Thing, Hot Chocolates bigger hit this song in my book is the stronger of the two and this remix/remake by Electrotheque works wonders. Enjoy both versions below.

I’ve never been much of a fan of Luther Vandross but when I heard this remix to Never Too Much with the bouncy disco style I quickly fell in love with it. I remember the original when it came out in the very early 80s it was one of those songs similar to other that were released from that same era. The same song was remixed and rereleased in 1989 but never reached any charts here in the states. Now that we have this awesome remix by ODahl I have rediscovered how good this song is. The original and the very spacey dancey robo-quirky remix by Odahl. Highly recommended. Released in 2009 20 years after the first remix in 1989. Enjoy.

  19. I Feel Love (Qattara 2004 Remix) by Donna Summer

I Feel Love is one of my all time favorite tracks. I love Giorgio Moroder’s masterpiece of a disco dance track that he created. So I’m always up to hearing new remixes or versions of his original classic sung by Miss born again herself Donna Summer. This remix from 5 or so years ago is quite amazing. I think I Feel Love are the beginnings of electronic music when you check out the original you can certainly hear the awesome bassline that addictive sound that makes you want to get on the dance floor and groove. Anyway Qattara have kept that original bassline and have basically taken the classic disco song to new levels. They’ve basically beefed up the sound and brought it into todays production. 23. Variations Of Supernature by Cerrone Symphony

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

Giorgio Moroder and Cerrone are the Gods or Kings of electronic dance music and I will buy everything I can get my hands on by these two producers. When I ran across this remake or remix I bought it as I love Supernature and It’s one of my top 20 all time favorite dance recordings and wanted to find out what they had done with this recording. I think I like it. Actually I love it.

The original is classic but this remix works great for me. It’s been given the updated modern production but with the added orchestrations of music you would hear in a score. Part of the concert series Cerrone is putting together later this year that’s going to travel to some of the biggest cities in the world. The first show will be in Paris in October.

Supernature has been remade countless times in the past most and one of the most famous remakes is by Erasure back in 1989. I love the William Orbit’s Remix of that Erasure version. So I’m always up for a new version. What do you think of both the original and the new version?

I’ve been really digging this quirky electro dance tune for sometime now so I figured it deserved a post about it. Don’t know much about these guys that go by the name The Swiss but this track Bubble Bath is awesome. They are from Adelaidede, Australia and for sometime now I’ve been digging the cool retro sounding electronic dance music that’s been heading over from the Land Of Oz. Acts like Cut Copy, The Presets, Ladyhawke and Empire Of The Sun. Next up to explode is The Swiss. Well I think. Either way this track Bubble Bath rocks. The remix is just ok but the original the cut to check out and listen to over and over again. You think? Bubble Bath kind of reminds me of Champu by Daniel Diamond from 8 years or so ago.
