  1. I Don’t Want To Lose (Original Album Version) by Lime from Disco Discharge: Pink Pounders

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

I love this awesome disco music series called Disco Discharge. There are a total of 8 albums in the entire collection 4 of which were released last year and this year 4 more volumes have come out literally! I love the group Lime from the 80s very much. They are a late discovery for me. I only discovered them in the late 90s and since then I’ve been hooked. They have that classic Hi-NRG/synth dance sound and their sound is pretty original and slightly cutting edge compared to some of their other cheesier sounding counterparts.

Lime were a husband and wife duo from Montreal, Canada who had underground synth pop/dance hits like Angel Eyes, Your Love (which is a #1 billboard dance charts song) and Unexpected Lovers. Their albums had really cool artwork and if you don’t know of any of their stuff do search it out. This song is a fun track in their trademark catchy lyrics and sound. One of the coolest tracks off of the coolest compilation Disco Discharge – Pink Pounders. Most of the tracks off of this collection are Hi-NRG/synth disco dance that were big hits in clubs in the late 70s and 80s. The collection includes tracks by Divine, Patrick Cowley, The Flirts, Jermaine Jackson & Pia Zadora and many many more on the 2 disc collection.

  2. Electrotheque Cover Hot Chocolate With Every 1’s A Winner

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

This one’s a fun remake cover track of the popular disco classic Every 1’s A Winner by Hot Chocolate. Electrotheque keep the spirit of the original but they add a funky house robotic groove to their version which somewhat similar to Daft Punks sound which is pretty darn cool. Most of the vocals are removed in this remake except for quiet robotic vox thrown in all of over the place. I don’t remember hearing this back when it came out in 1998 (even though I was buying up all kinds of music back then) when dance music was all over the place but I discovered on a compilation about 5 years ago and couldn’t believe that I had missed such a cool remake. Disco songs were being remixed and remade all over the place in the 90s so for some odd reason I had missed this but glad I discovered it. Even though I like You Sexy Thing, Hot Chocolates bigger hit this song in my book is the stronger of the two and this remix/remake by Electrotheque works wonders. Enjoy both versions below.

Here’s a fun dance hit that samples the classic famous song Fantasy by Earth Wind & Fire. James Talk & Ridney have turned the hit Fantasy into a club house smash and I’m really digging it. It’s very fun and a great track. High energy and fit for clubs and fast cars cruising the streets. Released by Defected … Enjoy!

  4. Never Too Much (ODahls K-Love Remix) by Luther Vandross

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

I’ve never been much of a fan of Luther Vandross but when I heard this remix to Never Too Much with the bouncy disco style I quickly fell in love with it. I remember the original when it came out in the very early 80s it was one of those songs similar to other that were released from that same era. The same song was remixed and rereleased in 1989 but never reached any charts here in the states. Now that we have this awesome remix by ODahl I have rediscovered how good this song is. The original and the very spacey dancey robo-quirky remix by Odahl. Highly recommended. Released in 2009 20 years after the first remix in 1989. Enjoy.

If you love your disco really sexy, hot and groovy then this cut which is a special Re-Edit from this awesome rare disco compilation called Disco Love by Al Kent is your cup of tea. I can just picture this groovy sexy number playing at places like Studio 54 or other similar clubs back in the day. I love it and it’s one of those rare disco hits that most folks will not know about and that’s makes this even more special. This compilation is not your typical I Will Survive or YMCA disco compilation. Those hits are a dime a dozen the cuts on this collection are just too special. Very, very worth it. Do check it out and get it.

  6. I Feel Love (Qattara 2004 Remix) by Donna Summer

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

I Feel Love is one of my favorite all time tracks. I love Giorgio Moroder’s masterpiece of a disco dance track that he created. So I’m always up to hearing new remixes or versions of his original classic sung by Miss born again herself Donna Summer. This remix from 5 or so years ago is quite amazing. I think I Feel Love are the beginnings of electronic music when you check out the original you can certainly hear the awesome bassline that addictive sound that makes you want to get on the dance floor and groove. Anyway Qattara have kept that original bassline and have basically taken the classic disco song to new levels. They’ve basically beefed up the sound and brought it into todays production. Check out both below as I know you will be quite happy with this remix.

Soulwax do an awesome remix of the disco classic A Fifth Of Beethoven by Walter Murphy from the the best selling Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. Wow! I wasn’t aware of this remix but glad I got International Deejay Gigolo Records CD 12 and I found it on there. To my amazement it’s a pretty darn amazing electro remix. Worth checking out below. The rest of the International Deejay Gigolos CD 12 release is pretty rocking too. There’s a pretty darn cool remix of the Peaches song Lose You by DJ Hell, A DJ Hell and Bryan Ferry collaboration and tracks by Diskokaine, Hard Ton, Peter Kruder, Fagget Fairys, Peter Kruder, Psychonauts and more! Worth owning! But for now check out the original of A Fifth Of Beethoven and the Soulwax remix.

  9. I’m Not Scared by Eighth Wonder & Pet Shop Boys

I’m Not Scared was produced and recorded for Patsy Kensit’s band Eighth Wonder but it became such a hit for Eighth Wonder the Pet Shop Boys decided to record it themselves as well and release it on their dance album Introspective in a complete orchestral/dance version. Their both the same song but sound completely different where the Eight Wonder version is more pop dance with touches of Hi-NRG and the Pet Shop Boys version being dramatic Hi-NRG. Both great versions. The versions below are the Disco Version of Eighth Wonder’s I’m Not Scared (the original version off their Fearless album) and the Introspective version from the Pet Shop Boys.

  10. Variations Of Supernature by Cerrone Symphony

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

Giorgio Moroder and Cerrone are the Gods or Kings of electronic dance music and I will buy everything I can get my hands on by these two producers. When I ran across this remake or remix I bought it as I love Supernature and It’s one of my top 20 all time favorite dance recordings and wanted to find out what they had done with this recording. I think I like it. Actually I love it.

The original is classic but this remix works great for me. It’s been given the updated modern production but with the added orchestrations of music you would hear in a score. Part of the concert series Cerrone is putting together later this year that’s going to travel to some of the biggest cities in the world. The first show will be in Paris in October.

Supernature has been remade countless times in the past most and one of the most famous remakes is by Erasure back in 1989. I love the William Orbit’s Remix of that Erasure version. So I’m always up for a new version. What do you think of both the original and the new version?

  11. Bubble Bath by The Swiss

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

I’ve been really digging this quirky electro dance tune for sometime now so I figured it deserved a post about it. Don’t know much about these guys that go by the name The Swiss but this track Bubble Bath is awesome. They are from Adelaidede, Australia and for sometime now I’ve been digging the cool retro sounding electronic dance music that’s been heading over from the Land Of Oz. Acts like Cut Copy, The Presets, Ladyhawke and Empire Of The Sun. Next up to explode is The Swiss. Well I think. Either way this track Bubble Bath rocks. The remix is just ok but the original the cut to check out and listen to over and over again. You think? Bubble Bath kind of reminds me of Champu by Daniel Diamond from 8 years or so ago.

    Destroy-Rock-And-Roll-Remix-Blog-Taana-Gardner-West-End-Records2

I love Heartbeat in it’s original form by Taana Gardner but this remix from 2001 is pretty darn cool. It’s much more sped up so it’s not as mellow as the original is so it’s more geared for the club floor. Heartbeat was originally released in 1981 off of West End Records and it’s still pretty darn cool. It’s so laidback and chill but very early 1980s disco. Worth it if you disco lovers have never heard of. Heartbeat and Work That Body are the only hits Taana Gardner is known so she had a small career in disco music. Taana Gardner has worked with some very legendary folks from that era including Larry Levan and Dr. Buzzard’s Original Savannah Band.

This remix of Heartbeat is part of a disc called Dance For Life West End Records Celebrates the 10th Anniversary of LIFEbeat. It’s def worth owning as there are new remixes of old West End Records classics including an Angel Moraes remix of Work That Body by Taana Gardner. Check it out!

Once again a cool band like The Glimmers have to change their name because of some old fogies like Mick Jagger and Keith Richards used to use The Glimmer Twins. Whatever!!! I like the Glimmers much better anyway. And this track Galactic Prism is rocking! Love, absolutely love this track since it has a very 80s feel to it but it’s totally now. It’s from The Glimmers album The Glimmers Are Gee Gee Fazzi which is aslo awesome and this track is one of the standout cuts but there’s more more groovy goodies on there! With elements of disco, electro, punk, Latin and their quirky style of production this makes for an awesome release. Enjoy and support The Glimmers and buy their album The Glimmers Are Gee Gee Fazzi! You wont be disappointed!

Disco will never go out of style! It’s here to stay forever and ever. That’s why musicians keep sampling famous tracks over and over again from the disco era! So Richard Dorfmeister (aka Kruder & Dorfmeister) and Madrid De Los Austrias have done an excellent sampling job on their track Boogie No More sampling the classic disco song Boogie Oogie Oogie by A Taste Of Honey. It’s perfect here and the Reverso 68 Remix is just awesome! The single also includes a Kraak & Smaak remix which is also pretty darn good. The Kraak & Smaak remix is a little more on the big beat side which makes both remixes completely different.

Check them both out below and while you are at it enjoy this live performance of A Taste Of Honey on youtube.

    Giorgio-Moroder-Midnight-Express

Hey! Giorgio Moroder is one of the masters of electronic music so I’m a very big fan of his stuff including his solo work, his work with Donna Summer and everything else! Chase is one of my all time favorite tracks. It’s the theme track to the film Midnight Express. I always thought that was such an odd combo with Giorgio Moroder doing the soundtrack to Midnight Express but it worked. Well the music really works for me. When I heard this very upbeat version of Chase by DuOud in very Middle Eastern/Arab style I was like this should have been the version in Midnight Express!!

Anyway this version rocks! Check it out as both version are below for you to download and compare. Obviously the Giorgio Moroder version is very 70s disco and the DuOud version is well a remake with the very Middle Eastern instruments including the Oud which the band DuOud takes their name from. Worth the download!

Chase is off of the album Wild Serenade. It’s chock full of Arab and Middle Eastern world beats. If you are a fan of this type of music then it’s definitely an album worth having in your collection.

This Thousand Fingered Man and along with the Mon Amour (DJ Gregory Remix)are the winners on the release. Pretty darn cool.

Hey who doesn’t love the Labelle disco funk hit Lady Marmalade? It’s a pretty darn big hit from the disco era and it’s still pretty popular today. I love this remake though from Lords Of Acid. They have made it into a sleazy industrial electrofied version. A bit cheesy at some points when the moaning comes in (ok that’s signature Lords Of Acid) but the beats are pretty darn cool still. This remake is 10 years old … wow time flies but I think it’s still got legs. It doesn’t sound too dated.

  21. Supernature (William Orbit’s Mix) by Erasure

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

Erasure released Supernature as a B side to their single Blue Savannah back in 1989 just after their big successful Chains Of Love song came out a couple of years prior. So this was pretty darn big. Lots of great remixes of Blue Savannah and of course this awesome remix of Supernature by William Orbit. The Cerrone disco classic was reinvented in a whole new style. This is a pretty darn great remake and I still listen to. It has slight touches of the disco sound but also has a very synth background – more in line with the 80s synth sound that Vince Clarke was known for.

This version is pretty darn long and again it’s pretty darn good. I love the Cerrone version of Supernature and I really do love this as well. Cerrone and along with Giorgio Moroder are my 2 favorite disco producers and this original is still one of my favorite Euro Disco tracks. Listen below and compare the two versions.

Don’t know much about this release of Birth, School, Work, Death by Manhead Featuring Christian Cruz but I sure do know the original by The Godfathers. The one hit wonder modern rockers that I heard countless times on Live 105. It’s a pretty darn good track the original that is but the remake is not as exciting as the original but it really does grow on you. What do you think? It’s a midtempo clubby electro sounding update and yes it truly does grow on you. It’s quite fun!

Hey I love this track Watch My Mouth by Cazwell. They’ve taken Taana Gardner’s Hearbeat and sampled perfectly in this Cazwell track. I think it works quite well. Even though the original Taana Gardner version is very downtempo I like the way in the Cawell track it’s sped up just the right amount. Check the two out see what I mean. Links below.

The Taana Gardner original is now a disco classic that I listen to still. I discovered it late. It’s not hit that it could have been like you know the typical disco hits that everyone listens to by Gloria Gaynor, Chic and Village People. This Taana Garnder Heartbeat track is more underground and was released by the legendary the indie label West End Records. It’s a classic masterpiece!
