    This came out in the early 2000s so it sounds a bit trancey dated but still fun if you like your trance fast and pumping! I first heard of Wim Mertens and Close Cover when I bought Cafe Del Mar Volume 5 back in 2000 and immediately loved his approach to new age and classical music. I’m not such a big fan of new age but do love classical so I love Close Cover in it’s true original form. But the Minimalistix make a fun clubbed out version that you can hear below. Check them both out and see what you think of both.

    Close Cover is off of Minimalistix’s Elements CD and Close Cover by Wim Mertens is off of Wim Merten’s Usura album. Minimalistix’s album Elements contains so many covers including a remake of A Forest by The Cure, Adagio For Strings by Samuel Barber, Twin Peaks Theme and more. Worth checking for anyone into covers, remixes and more.

    Here’s a synthy trademark Chromeo sounding mellow cover of the Eagles 70s soft rock/easy listening track I Can’t Tell You Why. Listening to the original gives me goosebumps as I have a love/hate relationship with this track. A good and bad time in my life. But the remake by Chromeo is quite fun and slightly quirky as they are known for producing. Check them out below. This cover is released as part of the DJ Kicks mix CD. It’s perfectly placed in the mix. The disc also contains some flashback 80s tracks by France Joli, Kano, Donna Allen and Leo Sayer. A great mix for anyone into synth dance pop with an 80s sound. Check out the fun promo film as well. It’s shot in the streets of Paris. You know what now that I think about this Chromeo cover at first listen it sounds like an 80s Hall & Oates track. Hmm?

    Ok we know The Supremes did this song first but I like the Kim Wilde Version as well. It’s a pretty darn cool remake that Kim Wilde did back in 1986. It was originally written and produced by Motown’s main production team Holland-Dozier-Holland.

    This remake by Soda Inc. is a midtempo electro disco cover of that track. It’s mostly sexy beats except for the main part “Set Me Free Why Don’t You Babe … You Just Keep Me Hangin’ On. I think it’s perfection! Check both the Kim Wilde version and the Soda Inc. cover and you’ll know what I mean. Night Fever by Soda Inc. is on the cool Plastic City Record Label definitely worth checking out for more of their releases.

    Hey taking a classic 80s song like Change by Tears For Fears and sampling the most prominent part into a dance track is awesome thing to do. Check this track Always by David Guetta from his Pop Life album. I think Guetta has taken that wonderful sound from the Tears For Fears song and sampled it perfectly in his song Always. Worth owning for sure. Compare both below.

    Pop Life also contains This Is Not A Love Song the Public Image Limited cover as well as hits Love Don’t Let Me Go the remix with The Egg. Worth owning!

    Louie Vega does a great cover of the disco classic Thousand Finger Man by Candido. Love this very Latin inspired track as was the original by Candido. This track comes right off the Elements Of Life “Extensions’ CD which I highly recommend for a bunch of other awesome tracks by Louie Vega all remixed. Sexy Latin inspired house music. This Thousand Fingered Man and along with the Mon Amour (DJ Gregory Remix)are the winners on the release. Pretty darn cool.

  6. Blue Monday (DJ Dan Remix) by Orgy

    How do you take one of the best dance singles of all time and redo it? Well record it (but it kinda sucks) then release a bunch of remixes (most sucked) but make sure you get DJ Dan to remix it for you. Well I have to say this remix of Blue Monday by Orgy originally by New Order is quite nice. It’s actually perfection. You can actually hear elements of the original music by New Order in this remix that aren’t in the the original cover by Orgy. So guess what? Which version do you think I like best? I love the remix over the Orgy original. It’s nice and upbeat!

    Here’s a pretty good remake or remix of an Inxs song. The really big Inxs hit Never Tear Us Apart has basically been given a trance beat by Tall Paul. I have a love hate relationship with Inxs music the more later tracks of their are very forgettable but this song is pretty good and this remix is pretty nice. More of a dance pop song than anything for the clubs – still nice though. What do you think?

    Ok this is real fun version of the great Beyonce track Crazy In Love. This version of Beyonce’s track is off of their album Postcard From Summerisle – and it’s a really fun album. There’s also a remake of Can’t Get You Out Of My Head by Kylie among other original tracks like The Birds & The Bees – check below for the video on youtube.

    It’s definitely a fun album and worth checking out to discover something new.

    This Visage remake/remix of Fade To Grey came out way back in 1994 and it still sounds pretty good. It’s a pretty good remake of the new romantics new wave classic written by Midge Ure and Steve Strange.

    Check out the album Revolt Of The Perverse as it contains a really kicking track called Pissing In The Wind. And who can forget I Need Drugs! Those were the good old days of techno and rave music! The fun days. If you can find this album do buy it as it’s worth it just for Fade To Gray and you get two bonus cuts!

  10. Amelie On Ice by Lucien N. Luciano

    I love the music from the film Amelie by Yann Tiersen and when I found this remake of the La Valse D’Amelie I was totally blown away. It’s not been officially released anywhere as I got it from a bootleg dj mix CD. I believe you can get it on 12″ single. Either way I love this. What do you think?

  11. Hi NRG by Erasure

    Erasure redid a version of Evelyn Thomas’s High Energy. They released as part of the Fingers & Thumbs (Cold Summers Day) single back in 1995. I think the Erasure version is definitely right on. It sounds very similar except for the difference in the technology behind the making of the music. The Erasure version has the cute synth pop beats that Vince Clarke is known for and the Evelyn Thomas version is true 80s hi-nrg sound.
