I love it when musicians take a song that’s so well known from an era with such a specific genre and put a new spin on it. This is the fact with Dalminjo Featuring Anja Oyen Vister covering The Smiths classic There Is A Light That Never Goes Out. Dalminjo is known for jazzy housed up club and electronic music and he’s remade this very well known Smiths track and made it housed up clubby but nothing too obnoxious with the beats sort of laidback but you know midtempo. This is the remixed version below as the original version is pretty mellow minimal. Check it out here with the original Smiths version. I like it and I do like it that he’s used Anja Oyen Vister to record the vocals so hearing this with female vocals is a pretty cool thing. What do you think?

  2. When You’re Around by Frankmusik Covers Golden Brown by The Stranglers

    Frankmusick-Naked

Love this song When You’re Around by Frankmusik. It’s a cover of the Stranglers new wave punk classic Golden Brown. I love that Frankmusik has taken it and given it a little electro life. Increasing the bpm and making it a bit frenetic which perfectly works. The original by the Stranglers is pretty darn good and a classic now but I love a fresh take on a classic track and Frankmusik has done that perfectly. What do you think?

When You’re Around is from the album Complete Me on Island Records. It’s available for download from online retailers like Amazon.com or iTunes. Check it out as it’s a fun album. Lots of electro pop with a big hint to the 80s.

This video rocks …. check it out below!

  4. Trentemoller Remixes Wrong by Depeche Mode

    Depeche-Mode-Wrong-463920trentemoller-picture

This is pretty darn cool! This Trentemoller remix is so much better than the original version (sorry DM guys) because it’s got this energy that the original downer song doesn’t. But the energy is not too upbeat that it’s aggressive or anything too fast it’s just the right amount of oomph to it that I love, love this remix. If you can’t tell I’m a darn big fan of Trentemoller so check out the Robyn remix Trentemoller did to Konichiwa Bitches here.

  5. Get Innocuous! by LCD Soundsystem Samples The Robots by Kraftwerk

    lcd_soundsystem_sound_of_silverlcd_soundsystem-james-murphy

I really do like this. Although I’ve been a pretty darn long time fan of Kraftwerk, James Murphy from LCD Soundsystem has taken the classic synth track from Germany’s Kraftwerk and sampled in his Gt Innocuous track. It’s a minimalist electro alternative cut that repeats the famous beats from Kraftwerk’s The Robots!

Get Innocuous is off of the Sound Of Silver album which has the hit track North American Scum a track that you’ve probably heard if you saw Step Brothers. Here’s the entire list of tracks from Sound Of Silver.

    Get Innocuous!
    Time To Get Away
    North American Scum
    Someone Great
    All My Friends
    Us V Them
    Watch The Tapes

New York, I Love You But You’re Bringing Me Down

Check it out both to preview below!

  6. Paris (Aeroplane Remix) by Friendly Fires featuring Au Revoir Simone

WOW! These two versions are completely different. I have to say I first heard Paris (Aeroplane Remix) on FabricLive 45 – A-Trak and had to find out more about Friendly Fires and I was like what nice I like the music they release and I needed to research them more.

I really love these both versions of Paris but as I said above they are completely different from one another. Like night and day. I favor the remix over the original more indie alternative sound but they are both cool. Preview both versions below.

The original Paris is off of the self titled Friendly Fires album.

  7. The Day (We Fell In Love) by Appaloosa

We’re digging this track tons! The Day (We Fell In Love) by Appaloosa. Was in a hip hotel lounge and we heard this playing in the background and luckily had my iPhone shazam and found out the name of this piece. WOW! AMAZING. Right off of the hip hot French label Kitsune. Worth a listen for sure. There are several remixes of the track but the original and this Sis-Mix are the better of the various versions from the single.

  8. This Sweet Love (Prins Thomas Sneaky Edit) by James Yuill

I love this remix of This Sweet Love by James Yuill. The remix is by Prins Thomas by there’s not much difference so it’s only a slight bit of a change here and I totally dig it. Very mellow and chill. I love the song so it was great to finally track down these remixes as there’s several or so by different remixers but this Prins Thomas remix takes the cake since this song does not really need the extreme remix treatment. The vocals are too mellow and cute to get the big beat treatment. You think?

The remix is off of the This Sweet Love single …

The original is from the James Yuill album Turning Down Water For Air album …

  9. Into U (Featuring Jarvis Cocker) by Richard X

Hey this is a fun version of the Mazzy Star classic Fade Into You. This one has the voice of Jarvis Cocker from the indie UK band Pulp. Into U is pulled from the Richard X Presents His X-Factor Vol. 1 album which also includes tracks and hits with the vocals of Annie, Kelis, Sugababes and Tiga. It’s a pretty darn great and very underrated album and well worth owning if you are at all into remakes, remixes and sampling as it sure contains tons of samples from famous recordings. But this remake is pretty worth the album since I do love Fade Into You very much and it’s always nice to hear remakes of it.

  10. Europa And The Pirate Twins by Sondre Lerche

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

I love the original of Europa And The Pirate Twins by Thomas Dolby. Even more than his bigger hit She Blinded Me With Science which as a kid I despised. It absolutely drove me crazy! But Europa And The Pirate Twins was awesome. Perfect synth Euro pop!

The original Europa And The Pirate Twins is off of the album The Golden Age Of Wireless album that also included the song She Blinded Me With Science. An awesome 80s classic worth owning if you don’t.

I do like this version by Sondre Lerche. It’s updated nicely but still doesn’t stand up to the original by Thomas Dolby. What do you think?

It’s on the single to Say It All which you can order from Amazon.

Ok this is real fun version of the great Beyonce track Crazy In Love. This version of Beyonce’s track is off of their album Postcard From Summerisle – and it’s a really fun album. There’s also a remake of Can’t Get You Out Of My Head by Kylie among other original tracks like The Birds & The Bees – check below for the video on youtube.

It’s definitely a fun album and worth checking out to discover something new.

  12. Professional Widow (It’s Got To Be Big) (Armand’s Star Trunk Funkin’ Mix) by Tori Amos

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

This remix was all over the place when it came out in 1996. Gosh Armand Van Helden was in top remix form. Around this time he did some excellent remixes for Jimmy Somerville, Nu Yorican Soul, New Order, Daft Punk and Sneaker Pimps. But this Tori Amos remix was what really put Armand Van Helden on the map. It’s quite awesome and it’s the kind of remix that I really, really love. Listen to the original track and the remix and you’ll notice what I’m talking about.

They are both very different and I really love the Armand Van Helden remix. Don’t you? This is what I really mean about Destroy Rock And Roll! An artist taking a track/song and totally changing it and making it completely different. Love it! More of it please.

  13. You Showed Me (Radio Edit) by The Lightning Seeds

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

I love this remake by The Lightning Seeds of the Turtles song You Show Me from the 60s. This Lightning Seeds version was featured in the first Austin Powers film but I don’t have the soundtrack to the film I actually have the single this was fulled from which also has several trip hop style remixes but unfortunately those versions are not as good as the original version. Also I really fell in love with this version after the first Austin Powers film was released and had been sort of a bomb at the box office and later caught momentum in the rentals and finally 2 very successful sequels that followed the films.

This remake is 12 years old now but still sounds quite fresh. What do you think of the Lightning Seeds version compared to The Turtles version? The Turtles version sounds a bit flat compared to the 12 year old Lightning Seeds version but they are both good. Check out the video below as well.

  14. Cities In Dust (Radio Edit) by Junkie XL Featuring Lauren Rocket

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

Here’s a great version of Cities In Dust by Junkie XL. I’ve always a big real big fan of the original by Siouxsie & The Banshees and it’s refreshing to see this update – it’s quite big sounding and upbeat and energetic. I even like the voice of Lauren Rocket here on this. I don’t know much about Lauren Rocket but I do know that she is in an LA punk band. Whatever she’s in I think the JXL version works. This is from the single release from Junkie XL with several great remixes and this one the radio edit is a good one to start out with. There are some even more energetic remixes on here but this brings back memories of the 80s.

Since I’ve loved the Extended Version by Siouxsie I think I’ve always wanted a pumped up electrofied version of this classic 80s song so this single really works for me. What do you think?

I love JXL and I think he does a pretty damn good job at remixing oldies and updating classics with his signature sound. Check out A Little Conversation (JXL Remix) by Elvis. You’ll see what I mean.
