Horse Meat Disco 3 picks up where Horse Meat Disco 2 left off last year and I’m digging what I hear so far! Horse Meat Disco 3 is a collection of underground disco cuts that you probably have not heard of before but definitely should as these are the disco cuts that really should be the better known ones. On Horse Meat Disco 3 there are several stand out cuts and edits or remakes/remixes of existing ones. Horse Meat Disco 3 kicks off with French trio Belle Epoque and their hit Miss Broadway with an edit here by Gazeebo. A fun poppy disco cut if you haven’t heard it then it’s certainly worthwhile. Skip ahead to Sweet Dynamite by Claudja Barry edited by Todd Terje! Wow I dig this. I love Claudja Barry’s music and this edit by Todd Terje gives Sweet Dynamite a brand new life! Like Bottin did with Lio’s Sage Oil a couple of years back!

Next up on Horse Meat Disco 3 is Fuzz Against Jazz and their really funky groovy disco number Born Under Puncher (Harvey’s Punch Drunk Mix). It’s a nice beat and I’m totally digging this cut and it’s perfectly fit in order here. What comes up next is a totally funky disco number which is also remixed by Todd Terje – Moon Jocks ‘n’ Prog Rocks by Mungolian Jetset is one awesome cut on here that I had to repeat over and over again. It sounds like it came from the 70s height of disco music but this thing was released last month. I say it’s amazing.

By now I’m really enjoying Horse Meat Disco 3 as I love the idea of mixing music from today that sounds like disco and dance from the 70s with disco music from the 70s and 80s. It’s great so far!

Dimitri From Paris & DJ Rocca Present Erodiscotique’s Downtown is perfectly mixed next into this great mix so far and how can you go wrong with Dimitri From Paris? The guy is a genius and this track, Downtown is quite nice!

I’m In Love by Yam Who? is a remake of the Sha-Lor classic from the late 80s and it’s great here and I’m In Love definitely deserves the remake treatment as it’s a long lost late 80s dance/house classic. Gosh I can still remember hearing this here in San Francisco back in the late 80s!

Billie Ray Martin? Yes it’s nice she’s back. Can you remember her in the mid 90s with her hit Your Loving Arms Around Me? Well she’s got great new stuff and this cut Sweet Suburban Disco is a standout. Let’s please get a hit out of this one!

I think the stand out cut on Horse Meat Disco 3 is You Don’t Know (Horse Meat Disco Remix) by Tambi. This thing is just awesome. I hadn’t heard of Tambi but boy I’m glad I did. You will dig it. Other cuts on Horse Meat Disco 3 include 2 cuts by Sylveseter, Idris Muhammad, The Glimmers (one of my favorite acts as of late) and Two Tons Of Fun.

Overall a great collection of cuts are represented on Horse Meat Disco 3 and perfectly mixed to perfection by the Horse Meat Disco boys. Worth of owning this great compilation. Preview the tracks below.

Space is one of my favorite space disco acts from the late 70s! Hailing from the South Of France, they released countless spacey sounding energetic disco tracks with their biggest hit being Magic Fly! From that self titled album this song Carry On, Turn Me On original version is pulled from. Magic Fly the album also contains the excellent track Tango In Space. It’s an excellent album and certainly worth as Space and main frontman Didier Marouani is one of the innovators of electronic dance music.

Bottin’s remix take on Carry On, Turn Me On is also excellent. It’s part of a killer compilation of great new remixes of Space tracks. King DJ’s awesome remake of Air Force is the highlight of the remix set along with this Bottin Remix of Carry On, Turn Me On. Other remixers include Sara Havcilek doing the remixing on Fasten Seat Belt which I also love and Foto’s Boulevard Of Dreams Mix of Deliverance rocks! Overall Space tracks have been given great new life in this collection of awesome remixes and I highly recommend any disco, electronic fan to own these great remixes and classic releases by Space.

Top Ten Best Underground Disco Songs Ever!!!

Underground disco is where it’s at! I love disco music but I love stuff that’s more underground than your typical disco song that everyone knows of. These aren’t songs like I Will Survive, YMCA, That’s The Way (I Like It) or Staying Alive. A lot of these underground disco songs on this Top Ten Best Underground Disco Songs Ever list are stuff that barely made it to the top of the charts. Ok maybe Cerrone did but that’s why I have put them at the very bottom.

Love In C Minor is one of my all time favorite disco songs but you know you can’t find those songs on any American released disco compilations. Nada so I figured it belongs on this list. I also added Boney M, the Frank Farian produced act who’s bigger hits were Ma Baker, Daddy Cool and Rasputin had to be included on here with ther small hit Gotta Go Home which was recently sampled by Duck Sauce for their song Barbra Streisand. If you haven’t heard that then you definitely need to check it out because it’s basically Boney M’s Gotta Go Home beefed up with a couple of vocal stabs thrown in that repeats Barbra Streisand.

Donna McGhee’s LoveBug was recently sampled by Amplified Orchestra for their awesome nu disco cut I Want You so I had to include Donna McGhee’s LoveBug as it’s excellent on it’s own and as sampled by Amplified Disco. Check out both for sure.

I’m really more into the European sound of disco music so I had to include Azoto. They had a bigger hit with San Salvador but I think Soft Emotion is just as good if not better than San Salvador. It’s one of those very groovy, sexy euro sounding cuts that once you listen to you’ll want to have on repeat! It’s quite cool! Whatcha think? Keep in mind the first 9 tracks are not in order …

I didn’t realize that this was a cover until I heard this songs several times. This is a very smooth, sexy and slightly upbeat version of Hot Chocolates Don’t Turn It Off sung by a lady, Qzen aka Susan Langan of 40 Thieves. This version is current with today’s nu disco sound and it’s a perfect version for sexy cocktail sipping at the hottest bars or cocktail parties at home with your sexy friends. It’s also perfect for walks and working out. I don’t really know much about 40 thieves but I did hear this off of a Greg Wilson mix CD, Credit To The Edit of disco and nu disco hits all mixed together. Was worth checking out to see what else 40 Thieves had done but not much more except for this awesome single Don’t Turn It Off covering Hot Chocolate.

For Hot Chocolate this is certainly not You Sexy Thing but it’s a nice mellower disco number from them from 1979 but 40 Thieves have perfected her. A Permanent Vacation release. Check out both versions below.

Here’s a great collection of cool edits of underground disco classics by master DJ Walter Gibbons called Jungle Music. These tracks are basically extended mixes/edits of well known and lesser known disco acts that Walter Gibbons used to spin at the clubs he had residencies in. There are cool cuts by Gladys Knight, Bettye Lavette, Double Exposure, Stetsasonic, Salsoul Orchestra and many more. If you are at all into disco or extended versions of songs then this is your compilation. Jungle Music by Walter Gibbons is highly worth owning. One of my favorites is Set It Off (Walter Gibbons 12″ Mix) by Strafe. A classic disco track that I’ve known for quite sometime now and here it’s in a 12+ minute of cool, sexy midtempo disco glory. I had just recently discovered this great song Why Can’t There Be Love by Dee Edwards off of a Gilles Peterson Digs America Volume 2 CD and now comes this awesome remix/edit by Pilooski! WOW. I love it. I love compilations as I discover so much cool new tunes, remixes, remakes by getting new compilations I don’t know anything about. Anything vintage remixed is perfection for me. I picked up Saint-Germain-Des-Pres Cafe. The Blue Edition compilation and there was this great new Pilooski remix of Why Can’t There be Love by Dee Edwards. I actually still dig the original but the remix by Pilooski just adds the cool big beats to make it more club friendly. I’ve been enjoying remixes by Pilooski lately especially the big remix Pilooski did a couple of years back of the Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons song Beggin’. He has since remixed countless other artists including Nina Simone, LCD Soundsystem, Quantic, Bent and many more. The real winner here is the great remix that Pilooski has done with the Dee Edwards song Why Can’t There Be Love. Enjoy both the original and remix below and check out the great compilations the original and the remix are on.

Gilles Peterson Digs American Volume 2 is definitely a compilation worth owning. If you are at all into 70s jazzy soul R&b then this mix of tracks compiled by Gilles Peterson is your cup of tea. The compilation included not only Why Can’t There Be Love the original by Dee Edwards but also tracks by Lorez Alexandria, Al Jarreau, Ray Camacho and more. Get it before it’s out of print and not available to own.

Saint-Germain-Des-Pres Cafe. The Blue Edition compilation includes tracks by CfCf, Ben Westbeech, Dj Food, Mr Scruff, London Funk Allstars and many many more. The 2 CD mix is highly recommended for home entertaining as it’s got a great mix of cocktail type music.

Good old disco songs updated? That’s my cup of tea. I love me some disco, one of my favorite genres in the dance electronic genre. I can never get enough of it! If you don’t like disco then I don’t like you! Gosh what the fuck were they thinking of when they were burning and destroying disco records in the late 70s? Americans are so sensitive to dance music! Well they must be sensitive to a lot more because the same freaks did the same thing to the Dixie Chics! Whatever!

Anyways this song is one of my favorite disco songs. Got To Have Loving by Don Ray from the album The Garden Of Love and produced by Cerrone is a classic from the late 70s. The Sucker DJ’s have taken that classic disco tune from the late 70s and have given it the house/club treatment here and sped it up and adapted it to todays ears. It’s not a remix or is it? This one’s a really quirky, fun sort of on the leftfield disco, new wave, no wave track that I really dig. I didn’t know anything about this really cool disco cut when I was growing up. I discovered it about 10 years ago after picking up the excellent disco compilation Mutant Disco from ZE Records. It’s fun really fun. Finally just earlier this year I discovered this more updated remix of the classic cut from ’79 and all I can say is it’s awesome! There’s not much difference between the two versions except that it’s slightly faster and a little groovier. If you don’t know ZE Records then you certainly have to check it out. It’s an underground New York disco/new wave label which features some really cool acts like Kid Creole & The Coconuts, Material with Nona Hendryx, Was (Not Was), Cristina, Garcons, The Waitresses, Suicide, James White & The Blacks, Caroline Loeb and many many more acts definitely worth discovering.

I love this awesome disco music series called Disco Discharge. There are a total of 8 albums in the entire collection 4 of which were released last year and this year 4 more volumes have come out literally! I love the group Lime from the 80s very much. They are a late discovery for me. I only discovered them in the late 90s and since then I’ve been hooked. They have that classic Hi-NRG/synth dance sound and their sound is pretty original and slightly cutting edge compared to some of their other cheesier sounding counterparts.

Lime were a husband and wife duo from Montreal, Canada who had underground synth pop/dance hits like Angel Eyes, Your Love (which is a #1 billboard dance charts song) and Unexpected Lovers. Their albums had really cool artwork and if you don’t know of any of their stuff do search it out. This song is a fun track in their trademark catchy lyrics and sound. One of the coolest tracks off of the coolest compilation Disco Discharge – Pink Pounders. Most of the tracks off of this collection are Hi-NRG/synth disco dance that were big hits in clubs in the late 70s and 80s. The collection includes tracks by Divine, Patrick Cowley, The Flirts, Jermaine Jackson & Pia Zadora and many many more on the 2 disc collection.

Disco will never go out of style! It’s here to stay forever and ever. That’s why musicians keep sampling famous tracks over and over again from the disco era! So Richard Dorfmeister (aka Kruder & Dorfmeister) and Madrid De Los Austrias have done an excellent sampling job on their track Boogie No More sampling the classic disco song Boogie Oogie Oogie by A Taste Of Honey. It’s perfect here and the Reverso 68 Remix is just awesome! The single also includes a Kraak & Smaak remix which is also pretty darn good. The Kraak & Smaak remix is a little more on the big beat side which makes both remixes completely different.
