  1. Happy Together (Wade Nichols aka Todd Terje Edit) by The Turtles

Happy Together by The Turtles is one of my favorite 60s songs. I think it’s one of those rare songs that still sounds quite original on it’s own. I was looking forward to this reedit of the original Happy Together by Wade Nichols aka Todd Terje. Once I heard it I knew it was pretty much the same in sound but it does have a bouncier beat to it making it a perfect example of an early 70s disco treatment of a 60s song.

Enjoy both the original and edit versions below.

I love it when DJ’s or artists remix very well known tracks but legends. This remix was done by Paul Oakenfold of the classic Doors track L.A. Woman I dig it very much. It’s now around 5 or 6 years old but hey L.A. Woman never gets tired and this remix is just the same. It’s not your typical dance remix here Paul Oakenfold keeps the same elements of the original Doors song but the remix has an added oomph factor to it. Check them both out below. Gosh Paul Oakenfold got his start in the late 80s/early 90s and I’ve been following his music since then and he’s certainly come along way and this remix is just an example of his great remixing talents. This remix appears on Perfect Presents The Club disc. Oh and check the promo video below for L.A. Woman by The Doors

  3. The Windmills Of Your Mind by Orange Factory

I just love this remake of the classic Noel Harrison track from the film The Thomas Crown Affair. This is a nice midtempo piece by Orange Factory a downtempo chillout act. They are not very well known as I can’t find much information about them but they are from the Irma Music label in Bologna Italy. One of my favorite labels and this remake is pretty darn good. It’s all instrumental just like it should be. Nice background music you can chill too. Although I love the Dusty Springfield version which I have below for you all to compare to. What do you think? In the film The Thomas Crown Affair (the original version with Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway) was an instrumental piece. Later Dusty Springfield had sung it which became a pretty nice hit for her.

The Windmills Of Your Mind was written by Alan Bergman, Marilyn Bergman and Michel LeGrand with the French title being Les moulins de mon cœur.

BTW Sting did a cover version of The Windmills Of Your Mind for the 1999 remake of The Thomas Crown Affair.

  4. Riders On The Storm (Ibizarre Remix) by The Doors

This is a pretty old remix – almost 10 years old now but I do like it. It’s the classic Riders On The Storm track by The Doors made into a chillout – downtempo track. It’s been stripped of most of the instruments (at least the guitars and drums) so you can lay back to it on a sofa at home sipping cocktails with your friends or tea with a book.

Once you listen to it though you will notice there’s not much difference between both tracks – it’s just slight but you can tell the two apart as the original still sounds very 60′s hippie rock and the remix is more loungy.

  5. You Showed Me (Radio Edit) by The Lightning Seeds

I love this remake by The Lightning Seeds of the Turtles song You Show Me from the 60s. This Lightning Seeds version was featured in the first Austin Powers film but I don’t have the soundtrack to the film I actually have the single this was fulled from which also has several trip hop style remixes but unfortunately those versions are not as good as the original version. Also I really fell in love with this version after the first Austin Powers film was released and had been sort of a bomb at the box office and later caught momentum in the rentals and finally 2 very successful sequels that followed the films.

This remake is 12 years old now but still sounds quite fresh. What do you think of the Lightning Seeds version compared to The Turtles version? The Turtles version sounds a bit flat compared to the 12 year old Lightning Seeds version but they are both good. Check out the video below as well.

  6. Ces Bottes Sont Faites Pour Marcher by Eileen

Here’s a fun French version of Nancy Sinatra’s go- go classic. I love this as I can hardly sing it and I can sing the original for sure in English but the fact that I can’t sing this makes it all that more unique.

This series Femmes De Paris is a great collection of young French pop divas from the 60s singing original and cover songs from British and American hits. I love the collection and it’s definitely worth owning for anyone interested in this type of music. They are sure fun and will get folks talking and chatting at a party.

What do you think? Nancy’s version or Eileen’s cover? They are both fun to me!

  7. Je T’aime…Moi Non Plus by Donna Summer

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

Thank God It’s Friday is the forgettable film about the disco nightlife club world. It has a pretty good soundtrack of music by such artists as Thelma Houston, Diana Ross, Commodores, Cameo, Santa Esmeralda and of course several tracks by Ms. Donna Summer. The big hit on the soundtrack is of course Last Dance. There’s two versions the regular and of course the reprise version just before the last track on the soundtrack – Je T’aime…Moi Non Plus. This of course is the classic 60s French track by Serge Gainsbourg and featuring the great voice of his wife Jane Birkin.

Unfortunately the Donna Summer version which clocks in at 15 minutes and 36 seconds (pretty long for a track) doesn’t do anything for me. I love Donna Summers music especially the song I Feel Love – a true classic electronic disco masterpiece produced by the king himself Giorgio Moroder but unfortunately this remake just sucks! It sucks just like the film it’s from and it’s unfortunately really, really long so I just skip it. Well I don’t really listen to it.

What do you think of the two versions? I love the original. You?

  8. Beggin (Pilooski Remix) by Frankie Valli And The Four Seasons

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

Ok so now we have Frankie Valli And The Four Seasons getting into the remix game. This one is remixed by Pilooski from France. And you know what I do like it. I love this and I loved hearing it all over the radio in France while I was visiting in December. It’s nice and energetic and it’s fun. The only thing is the version I kept hearing on the radio in France had a rap in the track but I can’t seem to find it anywhere. Either way I now am anxious to know if they are going to do more remixes because I like what I hear here with this track. Perhaps they’ll do a remix of Can’t Take My Eyes Off You? Maybe not – the Pet Shop Boys did that already!

The music is still pretty much the same but as you are probably are aware there’s the added oomph factor to this remix and the the fact that they’ve kept the music pretty much the same it’s pretty amazing. Nice beats and perfect for party time! White boy soul music remixed.

I love it. What do you think? Do you like the original or the remix? I’d say the remix!
