  • Top Ten Best Dance & Electronic Songs May 2011 Part 2

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

This is a great way to wrap up May and jump right into June and warm summer months ahead. This is what’s hot now in dance and electronic dance music. This is the Top Ten Best Dance & Electronic Songs in May 2011 Part 2. There’s so much great dance and electronic music coming out I think pretty soon it’s going to start feeling like 1989/1990 the years before dance and electronic music exploded with rave culture and all that good stuff! One of the biggest cuts I’ve been enjoying for a while now is C’mon by Tiesto/Diplo! It’s one of those very upbeat dance electronic tracks very reminiscent of early techno with vocal samples thrown in! Loving it. It was slow to grow on me at first now I totally dig it! Strange that Tiesto is collaborating with Diplo but hey I love weird collaborations like that! A favorite that’s been around for a while now, Spacer Woman as an original and a cover by Johan Agebjorn & Sally Shapiro has just been rereleased on an excellent new album by Johan Agebjorn called Casablanca Nights. Spacer Woman is one of my all time favorite Italo-Disco songs and since it’s been just rereleased here by Johan Agebjorn and since I’ve been listening to it over and over again I figured it should end up on the Top Ten Best Dance & Electronic Songs in May 2011 part 2 list. Check it out as it’s great if you haven’t hear of it. Sweet Dreams is an excellent remake of the Eurythmics 80s classic synth pop track that’s been on repeat constantly, Tiga’s You Gonna Want Me from about 5 years ago has just been given the new remix treatment by Hey Today! that deserves to be on this list. As well Yeke Yeke is the late 80s Afro pop hit with new remix treatment by Robbie Rivera that’s really been on repeat lately. I was a big fan of the original in the 80s then the Hardfloor remix back in the mid 90s and now this new remix.

    1. C’mon (Original Mix) by Tiesto Vs. Diplo
    2. You Gonna Want Me (Hey Today! Remix) by Tiga
    3. Sweet Dreams by Avicii
    4. U.F.O. (Jean Tonique Aliens Can’t Dance Remix) by DJ EQ
    5. She Freaks (Original Mix) by The Shapeshifters
    6. Move Your Body (Original Mix) by Stefano Noferini
    7. Cinema (Maurizio Gubellini Remix) by Benny Benassi Featuring Gary Go
    8. Spacer Woman From Mars by Johan Agebjorn & Sally Shapiro
    9. Yeke Yeke 2011 (Robbie Rivera Remix) by Mory Kante
    10. Niton (The Reason) (Club Mix) by Eric Prydz

  • CFCF Covers Ryuichi Sakamoto With Forbidden Colours

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

Forbidden Colours is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever recorded. It was originally released back in 1983 and was a collaboration between Ryuichi Sakamoto and David Sylvian (from the band Japan) which was also part of the soundtrack to the film Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence starring David Bowie.

So CFCF has taken that most beautiful classical and electronic new age recording by Ryuichi Sakamoto and David Sylvian and elevated it for todays ears and it works darn good. I love it. CFCF aka Mike Silver actually even sings on this recording which still makes it even better. It’s a very soft spoken quiet kind of speaking that even sounds like the original. Check out both the original and the remake below.

I’ve been digging CFCF for quite sometime now. I was first introduced to his sound with some remixes he did for Sallly Shapiro later found his albums and fell in love with Big Love the Fleetwood Mac cover (which is awesome) and later I came across this recording which I love. I

I can’t wait to hear more from CFCF and I can only hope that he’s working on some more excellent cuts like what he’s released so far!

  • Permanent Vacation (Selected Label Works No 2)

Permanent Vacation (Selected Label Works No 2) is one of the coolest compilations to end up in my iTunes music library ever! I can’t stop listening to this awesome nu disco, deep house, electronic music compilation as every single track is top notch. So it’s on heavy rotation now for 4 or so months. Loads of great acts are included on this compilation including several remixes of Beam Me Up by Midnight Magic, several cuts from Tensnake, Azari & III, Sally Shapiro remixed by Bottin, Lexx, Pollyester, Woofy vs Projectsions and the track track that I keep coming back to Prism by Spectacle with a link below. Prism by Spectacle is one of those moody, very deep deep house (with a slight nu disco touch) tracks that you get addicted to and keep clicking to repeat. In other words it’s quite sexy!

Check it out at the link below and check out the rest of the Permanent Vacation (Selected Label Works No 2) tracks here. You wont be disappointed by them! Produced by Muallem which some of you might have heard of but if you haven’t check out Shanti Dance (Featuring The Droids) by Muallem. Very funky, groovy electro disco. Love that cut!

  • Versions Of Spacer Woman by Charlie

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

Spacer Woman by Charlie is one of my all time favorite Italo Disco tracks. I remember hearing in the early 80s but it came and went as I was only 13 when it was released. But later about 8 years ago is when I rediscovered again. Actually in 2004 it was on a compilation called I-Robots: Italo Electro Disco Underground Classics that I rediscovered this track and since then I haven’t stopped listening to it. Boy does this track still sounds fresh today or what? Luckily too that there have been some remixes and remakes by Sally Shapiro and I-Robots that sound just as fresh as the original 1983 version of Spacer Woman by Charlie. Italo Disco was that genre that came out in the early 80s to sound fresh and underground to become cheesy and overplayed/overproduced by the 80s came to a close. Luckily there are cool cuts like Spacer Woman to revisit that spacey 80s sound.

I-Robot’s version of Spacer Woman has been beefed up and been given the production treatments of todays technologies. The woman vocals have been removed and robotic vox have taken over which actually works quite awesomely. Then the Sally Shapiro version basically is replaced by Sally’s trademark vox mostly sung version. There are 3 versions of Spacer Woman on the single from Sally Shapiro and Johan Agebjörn. The upbeat remake which is still my favorite, the more spacey – mellow – ambient version called Deeper Space Woman and the spacey disco house version called Outer Space Woman (Parts 1 & 2). On the single is also a track called Mega Man 2 which is very video game soundtrack inspired cut. Very 80s for sure.

Enjoy all three versions below and let me know what you think of all three.

  • CFCF Covers Big Love by Fleetwood Mac

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

I first heard of CFCF with a couple of remixes he did for Sally Shapiro. Love In July and Time To Let Me Go are remixes in the style of downtempo with very disco disco flavored electronic dance that I’ve been digging so was eager to check out the CFCF album Continent where Big Love comes from. I was surprised to hear Big Love as it’s my favorite cut from Continent. And to my surprise after listening to it several times that I kept thinking it was a cover. And sure enough it’s a Fleetwood Mac cover from the 80s.

Big Love was a pretty big hit for Fleetwood Mac and it’s your typical dance/pop song very much in line of the 80s sounding tracks. Nothing special now but still worth checking out to compare both the CFCF version of Big Love and the Fleetwood Mac version.I have had the CFCF version of Big Love on repeat lately and it’s certainly ended up on several of my playlists that I take with me on my iPhone and iPod. It’s one of those tracks that you can listen to in the background and as well listen to while having a little get together where you want some energy in your music and not get stuck to the chill out stuff that’s typical. Big Love by CFCF is off of his album Continent and Big Love by Fleetwood Mac is off of their Tango In The Night album from 1987. Check them out below.

  • Love In July (Parker Lewis Remix) by Sally Shapiro

I love everything Sally Shapiro and this Parker Lewis remix of Love In July is quite nice. It’s from the digital single for Love In July. It’s not some big club remix it’s a very mellow mid to up tempo remix and I truly dig it. Much nicer than the original of course. The original is mostly vox but this has the nice electronic remix sound. Perfect from Parker Lewis. What do you think of the two versions?
