  1. Through The Night (The Swiss Menergy Remix) by Grum

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

The Swiss Menergy Remix? Are they hinting at Patrick Cowley? Sounds like! The remix to Through The Night with the really funny video is definitely an homage to the 80s high energy disco sound that Patrick Cowley was known for. His trademark sound has been updated and remixed Through The Night the cool 80s flavored artist Grum by The Swiss. It’s definitely a winning remix. Patrick Cowley was known for working and producing folks like Sylvester and DJing at legendary gay clubs in San Francisco and one listen to The Swiss Menergy Remix of Through The Night will take you back to the 80s clubs. It’s such a great combo here Grum who I’m totally digging lately and The Swiss with Bubble Bath fame are a winning combo. There are certainly several other remixes in the Through The Night remix package but The Swiss Menergy Remix is the one remix that gets my vote! Although the Bit Funk Remix is quite cool too. Through the Night is off of the Grum album Heartbeats. Check out Menergy too from Patrick Cowley below. All recommended.

  2. Animal (DJ’s From Mars Extended Remix) by Neon Trees

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

I’m sure you’ve heard of this song Animal by Neon Trees from somewhere already as it’s been everywhere but have you heard of this remix by DJ’s From Mars? It’s even better than the original I kid you not. Screw the guitar and take the upbeat energetic electro club beats. Ok just kidding the original is good but you know me I love my remixed music!

I don’t know who DJ’s From Mars are but they sure did a great job remixing this cut and it’s certainly ready for the clubs. The original is from the Neon Trees Habits CD but no official remix package is available anywhere so not sure why? Found this remix on a compilation that was sent and I figured it was worth putting up. You like?

  3. Every Day Is Halloween (Retro Electro Remix) by Ministry

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

If you grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area in the late 80s and you listened to Live 105 and especially Steve Masters on Live 105 then you will surely remember Everyday Is Halloween by Ministry. Not the Ministry that is known for Jesus Built My Hotrod and NWO from the 90s but the Ministry that is known for songs like Work For Love, Effigy and I Wanted To Tell Her! The more synthy, dance pop cuts that were forced onto Ministry by Arista Records to produce under contract. Well I’m glad they were forced into it because if not then we wouldn’t have them. The pre industrial cuts Ministry did were pretty classic at least to me but unfortunately that was not what Ministry wanted to do. Right after they released their one and only album under contract to Arista Records, With Sympathy (everyone should have this in their music collection btw as I think it’s a masterpiece) they went right into industrial dance territory, EBM which later became their hard core speed metal grunge industrial aggro sound that they became mostly known for. They released Every Day Is Halloween under contract to Wax Trax Records. This is the true Ministry sound. I love their sound and style here with cuts like Every Day Is Halloween, All Day, Cold Life and more. True EBM, Industrial dance classics or whatever you want to call it. Even bordering on goth! Evidenced on the Greatest 12 Inches from the Wax Trax label. So being a big fan of Everyday Is Halloween I had to pick up the greatest hits disc called Every Day Is Halloween: The Greatest Tricks.

Ok this is kind of cheezy although I do like the beats to this remix of Every Day Is Halloween but its sounding like it’s re-recorded so the vocals sound completely different than the original. I have a feeling for this greatest hits collection they couldn’t get the rights to or couldn’t afford the rights so they re-recorded it which cost them much less. Well it’s fine. It’s almost like a cover with an updated remixed sound. I dig it! The rest of the album though, hmm. You be the judge. Every Day Is Halloween: The Greatest Tricks even has a death metal version too. Not my cup of tea. Sorry! There are plenty of remakes or covers on the album too including a cover of the Amy Winehouse classic Rehab. Ok? What next! The Theme to A Summers Place?

  4. Liberating Soul (FM Attack remix) by Tesla Boy

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

Tesla Boy is your favorite new 80s band from today! Their music sounds like it comes from the 80s but with very modern production values you know made for today. If you are at all into anything 80s inspired including synth pop dance, italo-disco, 80s disco dance then Tesla Boy is your ticket to great new music discovery! Even their name is very 80s sounding! Remember the song Tesla Girls by OMD? Ok I wont mention the hideous 80s metal band Tesla (oops I just did) but you get the point!

The Tesla Boy album Modern Thrills kicks the 80s sound right off with an excellent synth classic song called Electric Lady. Then it gets better and better with cuts like Synthetic Prince, Minsk-2, Dark Street, Fire and Thinking Of You so I highly recommend you check Modern Thrills out. Liberating Soul is the first single off of Tesla Boy’s Modern Thrills album. It’s fun synth, pop classicness! Great 80s sounding vocals even.I can’t pinpoint which 80s synth pop band they sound like but they really do. Maybe you know? The remix for Liberating Soul by FM Attack adds a certain, laidback spaceyness to it with the trademark spacey FM Attack sound. Being a big fan of FM Attack I always seek out new remixes they do. I especially love the remix they did for the Edwin Van Cleef song Overtaken. If you haven’t heard of it check it out here.

  5. Why Can’t There Be Love (Pilooski Edit) by Dee Edwards

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

I had just recently discovered this great song Why Can’t There Be Love by Dee Edwards off of a Gilles Peterson Digs America Volume 2 CD and now comes this awesome remix/edit by Pilooski! WOW. I love it. I love compilations as I discover so much cool new tunes, remixes, remakes by getting new compilations I don’t know anything about. Anything vintage remixed is perfection for me. I picked up Saint-Germain-Des-Pres Cafe. The Blue Edition compilation and there was this great new Pilooski remix of Why Can’t There be Love by Dee Edwards. I actually still dig the original but the remix by Pilooski just adds the cool big beats to make it more club friendly. I’ve been enjoying remixes by Pilooski lately especially the big remix Pilooski did a couple of years back of the Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons song Beggin’. He has since remixed countless other artists including Nina Simone, LCD Soundsystem, Quantic, Bent and many more. The real winner here is the great remix that Pilooski has done with the Dee Edwards song Why Can’t There Be Love. Enjoy both the original and remix below and check out the great compilations the original and the remix are on.

Gilles Peterson Digs American Volume 2 is definitely a compilation worth owning. If you are at all into 70s jazzy soul R&b then this mix of tracks compiled by Gilles Peterson is your cup of tea. The compilation included not only Why Can’t There Be Love the original by Dee Edwards but also tracks by Lorez Alexandria, Al Jarreau, Ray Camacho and more. Get it before it’s out of print and not available to own.

Saint-Germain-Des-Pres Cafe. The Blue Edition compilation includes tracks by CfCf, Ben Westbeech, Dj Food, Mr Scruff, London Funk Allstars and many many more. The 2 CD mix is highly recommended for home entertaining as it’s got a great mix of cocktail type music.

  6. Top Ten Best Dance Remixes Of 2010!!!

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

Love me some good old remixes so I figured I’d gather ten of my favorite remixes from 2010 and post them here for everyone else to enjoy like I have been. I have to say I think one of the best remixes from last year is the Armand Van Helden Remix for Add SUV the Uffie song. The original is a bit of a mess and not typically what I enjoy but the remix rocks!

If you haven’t heard these remixes then you’ve been sleeping under a rock in 2010 and now it’s time for you to find out and enjoy these just as much as I am. Robyn’s song Dancing On My Own remixed by Fred Falke is pop/dance bliss. Then there’s Jody Wisternoff aka Way Out West song Don’t Crash Please remixed by Stereofunk. That thing is so sexy, groovy, club house stomper. Love it! Click through each link and it will take you to each post and you can download the remixes there.

    Enjoy!

  7. Second Lives (Lifelike Remix) by Vitalic

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

Lifelike have take the techno electro track Second Lives by Vitalic from his Flashmob album and have given it the more happy disco vibe. Still has the electro edge to it but it’s a little more groovy as disco/electro music should be. This remix by Lifelike also has a very late 70s early 80s dance sound as well. You know when disco was becoming hi nrg, italo and all. I love this remix and I think it’s my favorite from the remix package for Second Lives by Vitalic. Other remixes included in the package are The Bloody Beetroots Remix and Mustang Remix. If you are a fan of Vitalic or techno electro or any remixes then this is your single! 8. Beam Me Up (Jacques Renault Remix) by Midnight Magic

Thanks to Hercules & Love Affair’s first self titled album the disco revival thing is happening big time and I think Midnight Magic are leading the way for some awesome cool new music. I love all things disco and this single Beam Me Up does not disappoint at all. I hear that Midnight Magic even has a former Hercules & Love Affair band member. Well if that’sBoth the original with it’s mellower groove and the Jacques Renault Remix with a slightly more upbeat version are great examples of nu disco. Beam Me Up has a slight 40s influence I hear as well. Is that intentional? I just love the cut and I can’t stop listening to it. And if you are into anything disco you will dig it for sure. Really looking forward to checking out what else Midnight Magic come up with!

  9. Me & Madonna (The Twelves Remix) by Black Strobe

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

At the turn of the century you can certainly feel that dance music was going into a different direction. Trance was on it’s way out and every single sub genre of dance music had come and gone and finally electro was popping up everywhere. Bands like Fischerspooner, Miss Kittin and The Hacker and Ladytron had started a new sound called electroclash. Well that lasted right? Not but the electro sound is still pretty big. This song Me & Madonna by Black Strobe was one of those dark, sleazy vocal electro cuts that still sounds quite fresh today. It could have fit perfectly on any of the International Deejay Gigolos compilations in fact I believe it was on one of the volumes. The original 2002 version has a very 80s feel to it, with New Order guitars and all. Black Strobe have moved over to Kitsune label and I think that makes perfect sense. Don’t you?

This 2010 remix by The Twelves from the Me & Madonna remixes package has been given the grooved up treatment that I’m digging quite a lot. It’s jumpy, fun and upbeat and most fun. Not sleazy, dark and mellow like the original but certainly upbeat and danceable. It’s a good remix by The Twelves. Cool thing to note about Black Strobe is that they did a really awesome remix of Something To Do for Depeche Mode about 5 years ago that I highly recommend if you haven’t heard it yet to seriously check it out here.

  10. Well Well Well (Digital Dog Club Mix) by Duffy

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

I’m discovering Duffy late from everyone else. I like her music but I was so damn tired of the Amy Winehouse sound after she exploded everyone else popped up sounding like they stepped out of the 60s. I’m over it already. Second Duffy album prob not as good as her first album so I don’t have much to comment on it. I did somehow find this remix of Well Well Well (Digital Dog Club Mix) which reminds me of any pop song remixed in the 90s type thing. Loads of pop tracks were getting the big club remix treatment back then and takes me back sort of. Has this remix gotten an official release actually? I can’t find anything about it anywhere so is it rare? I actually do like this somewhat and compared to the original version I like this better.

Ok now you know I have a soft spot for pop/dance. And actually after checking out Endlessly by Duffy her new album I do like several of the cuts. Sorry! But I must stop here and no Adele for me!

  11. Good Day Today (Underworld Classic Remix) by David Lynch

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

Not only is David Lynch one of my favorite filmmakers of all time he now is one of my favorite electronic musicians? WOW! This cut is amazing. Both the original Good Day Today and the Underworld Classic Remix are top notch full on electronic dance perfection. Underworld I’m sure you remember from the 90s as the electronic maestros they are! The original Good Day Today is the best Daft Punk track that Daft Punk did not produce! There are several remixes released with the single including a Boys Noize Remix, a Diskjokke Remix and the Underworld Classic Remix also there’s I Know the B side for Good Day Today. This is more David Lynch film soundtrack music. Similar to his collaboration with Angelo Badalamenti and Twin Peaks soundtrack material. Although this is big, dark and very bluesy so it also reminds me of The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. There are also several remixes of I Know among which are a Jon Hopkins Remix, a Radcliffe ‘Hedz In Dark’ Mix, Skream’s No So Ravey Remix and a Sasha Remix. All the remixes are highly recommended so go get them from here!

Wow I’m totally impressed with this collection and can only wait to hear more from Mr. Lynch! More soon please?

  12. Blitz (Villa Remix) by Digitalism

Hey it’s the long awaited follow up single to Digitalism’s massive album Idealism. The German duo are really back with more of their trademark big beat electro sound that countless producers copied. I like this new cut but I really am enjoying the Villa Remix much better. I know the Digitalism sound it’s good and great for clubs but Villa have remixed this cut pretty darn cool and have given a very robotic and computerized feel to it. Very futuristic sounding and I can certainly see this in a Tron type film trailer. Ok long as it doesn’t suck like Tron did! This release off of Kitsune from France. Where’s EMI? The single also contains Stratosphere which I’m totally digging! Preview Stratosphere here for free!

  13. Alagoas Cowboys (Martin Brodin Remix) by Rodion

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

This is a pretty quirky electro disco track from Rodion by way of Gomma records in Germany. Alagoas Cowboys is from the Rodion For Ever Single and For Ever Remixes Single and the remix is certainly the more fun version. The original version of Alagoas Cowboys is more stripped down version which still is pretty fun but I first discovered this cut by listening to the Martin Brodin Remix. I love the whistling in the cut basically it’s mostly cool midtempo electronic disco beats with cute whistling nothing else. No vocals but all fun!

I highly recommend Gomma Records and their releases. Everything by Munk is top notch and one of my favorite acts to follow for new releases.

This is the stand out cut from Robyn’s Body Talk, Pt. 1. I especially love the remix by Fred Falke which I have included below. Love me some Fred Falke remixes as always and this remix is the best from the huge package of remixes for Robyn’s Dancing On My Own. This song is in the vein of other classic dance tracks that still sound great today and it’s inspired by songs by Abba, Donna Summer, Sylvester, Ultravox and more. If you like your poppy dance music then this is your track. Robyn’s Body Talk series is also quite awesome and I highly recommend all the cuts from all three Body Talk ep’s. I especially love “Don’t Fucking Tell Me What to Do” from EP 1 by Robyn. Get it now, fast it’s quite awesome!

  15. Bottin Remixes Sage Comme Une Image by Lio

Well it’s not quite a remix but certainly an edit and it’s a great new discovery for me from a little known French singer from the 80s by the name of Lio. I love this track so much and I’ve been playing it over and over again as it’s got the sexy, groovy and very early 80s French disco sound that I like and hear on many new tracks these days influenced by that sound.

This is a very tasty edit here by Bottin is one of the best new discoveries ever. If you are at all into anything neo disco, electro, synth or 80s retro dance then this track is certainly for you both the original and the edit by Bottin. There’s not much of a difference between the original extended version versus the edit but both are highly recommended on repeat. Check them both out below and enjoy!

  17. Hablando (Dub Mix) by Vandalism & Sampled by In-Grid

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

I first heard of Hablando by Ramirez on Journey’s By DJ Paul Oakenfold CD way back in 1994. It’s that building dreamy progressive trance that once you hear you’ll get caught up in it’s magic euphoric sounds and not want to stop listening to it. The Paul Oakenfold mix was pretty darn good and I’d listen to the whole thing and start over again. So I loved this mix and I loved Hablando by Ramirez.

So then we have a remake here by Vandalism. It’s quite similar but lot more clubby. Gone are the dreamy quality of the original but made quite more upbeat and more electro. Vandalism have just adapted the classic trance track to todays ears. It works for clubs and driving in cars. It’s an all classic trance cut waiting to be made and finally it’s been brought back to life.

This I absolutely love as they’ve taken a portion of the most famous part from Hablando and incorporated it into it’s own original song. Le Dragueur off of the album Passion by In-Grid. 18. The Gift (Gui Boratto’s Fallopian Mix) by Way Out West

The Gift is a classic dance track dating back to 1996 by Way Out West. I remember RCA Records (the US label) had released the CD single to the track of which I had bought having read about it prior. I loved the track a whole lot. It was bouncy, energetic and sort of bordering on progressive drum & bass. It was fun. I’m glad Gui Boratto has given it the 2010 remix treatment to this almost 15 year old track. Those of you that don’t know about this Way Out West track then you certainly have to check it out. It’s certainly a defining moment of 90s electronica/dance.

The Blue album which is also the self titled Way Out West album is classic. There are several excellent cuts on there that are certainly worth owning. Blue, Ajare and of course The Gift. Highly recommended!

Rollo (of Faithless) and Rob D (of Clubbed To Death fame – you know featured on The Matrix Soundtrack) are the O.T. Quartet. They produced this awesome track back in the mid 90s which was a huge hit back then in the club world. It has the trademark Rollo/Cheeky Records sound and I loved it back then and I still love it now. It’s a classic masterpiece that doesn’t get boring after countless listens. I’m glad Jerome Isma-Ae remade it and brought the track into the sound of now at clubs. It’s fun and I dig it and I’m sure you’ll dig it too if you like anything by Faithless or Rollo you will certainly dig Hold That Sucker Down by Jerome Isma-Ae. I’ve been digging the Grum sound lately. I loved this great remix Grum did for Groove Armada’s History cut and immediately had to check out what else Grum had done. The album Heartbeats by Grum is well worth owning for all the cool electro disco house cuts very reminiscent to the 80s pop dance sound.

A David Bowie cover is always fun to check out and this version by Grum does not disappoint. It’s fun electro pop with male fronted vocals and added robotic vocoder effects for a good fun time. Enjoy both below.

Rapture came from nowhere in 2001 to become a huge club hit for Iio and I still remember to this day how everyone was humming that ladadida part of the song. It was more on the pop end of electronic, dance and club music but I still loved it. It’s nice to know that Nadia Ali has now gone solo and released two great remix songs albums with loads of cool new remixes of songs. There is also a new remixed version of Rapture remixed by Avicii which has been given the updated treatment to accommodate todays generation! The albums are called Queen Of Clubs Trilogy: Onyx Edition and Queen Of Clubs Trilogy: Ruby Edition which I highly recommend for anyone who was a fan of Rapture (Tastes So Sweet) by Iio or anyone into dance and electronic club music.
