  1. Never Too Much (ODahls K-Love Remix) by Luther Vandross

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

I’ve never been much of a fan of Luther Vandross but when I heard this remix to Never Too Much with the bouncy disco style I quickly fell in love with it. I remember the original when it came out in the very early 80s it was one of those songs similar to other that were released from that same era. The same song was remixed and rereleased in 1989 but never reached any charts here in the states. Now that we have this awesome remix by ODahl I have rediscovered how good this song is. The original and the very spacey dancey robo-quirky remix by Odahl. Highly recommended. Released in 2009 20 years after the first remix in 1989. Enjoy.

  2. Edwin Van Cleef Remixes Daniel By Bat For Lashes

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

I’ve really been digging Edwin Van Cleef’s sound and I was happy to have heard of this remix to the Bat For Lashes hit song Daniel. Not a real big fan of Bat For Lashes mysefl …  I could take it or leave it really but this remix does wonders to the song and I’m really happy to hear remixes of songs that I don’t really like remixed and made to sound better. It makes me love some songs even more. And this one I love, the remix that is. What do you think of the two? Which is better than the other?

  3. Tim Tim Sample Andrews Sisters With Rum ‘N’ Coca Cola

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

Being the big fan of electro swing I quickly fell in love with this version of Rum And Coca-Cola originally recorded by The Andrews Sisters. This version by Tim Tim gives the song the island, Jamaican reggaefied party vibe feel along with the ragga rapping and cute girl vocals and incorporated with the awesome sample from the original Andrews Sisters song. Very bouncy and will get your party shaking. I highly recommend this version as I love it and I’m sure you will too.

  4. I Love Rock N’ Roll (Original Extended Mix) by Alex Gaudino and Jason Rooney

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

I love it when they take an old rock classic song and fuck it up. Well in this case of Alex Gaudino taking on I Love Rock N’ Roll the classic early 80s pop rock anthem by Joan Jett & The Black Hearts it’s not really fucked up I think it’s perfected upon. Remixed to death. I love it and I love this remix. The whole package of 5 different remixes are awesome. Perfect for todays dancefloor or to blast from your speakers speeding down the highway. Or whatever will get you off. Joan Jett & The Blackhearts deserve the remix treatment as their rock and roll classic has been electrified and Alex Gaudino and Jason Rooney have done an wicked remake and sampling job with the original vocals from Joan Jett. At least it sounds like the original vox. You think?  Now after hearing this which came out last year I want to hear more classics remixed. Let’s remix everything shall we?

  5. Under The Sun (Lenny Ibizarre Remix) by Ida Corr Featuring Shaggy

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

Listening to Ida Corr’s Under The Sun in it’s original form makes you think that you are listening to pretty acomplished R&B singer. Then you have this great big remix package for Under The Sun and the remixes range in all styles including full on club bangers and my favorite the Ibizarre Remix which has been given the haunting beats perfect for late night chilling. Gone is the rap from Shaggy that’s present in the original version which I think was a good decision. To me it just doesn’t make sense to include the rap but oh well it’s there in the original version we’ll deal with but it’s all about the remix here and I listen to it over and over again. It’s that good!

  6. Italian Secret Service Cover Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

I think every song should be remixed, remade, sampled even such a classic song like Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana. I love the idea of taking a song that’s recognized in a genre and switching it on everyone and rerecording it in a complete different style. And here it’s done quite well by Italian Secret Service from Irma Records out of Italy. This remake takes me back to the early 60s, innocent jazzy easy listening music. It’s fun and this really works just grab yourself a mai tai and enjoy.

  8. Happy Piano by Stereofunk

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

Fools Planet by Stereofunk is a fun, funky electronic dance release with loads of early 90s dance music influences. Especially the cut Happy Piano links below with the great piano samples. It’s upbeat, energetic and very fun to listen to and what a Happy Piano it is. Totally takes me back to the 90s Happy PIano cuts that were released by the countless UK dance labels. Stereofunk on the other hand is from Dresden, Germany. We can skip the UK these days for any cool dance music and turn to France, Sweden and Germany.

Really digging this cut and worth hearing it over and over again. I’m sure you’ll all agree. Check out the original (my favorite) and the remix (which sounds like early 90s rave/techno) and comment on what you think and be sure to look out for more releases by Stereofunk. 9. Hypnotized (Bottin’s Mercurial Mix) by Oscar G & Stryke

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

Hooj Choons was one of my favorite labels coming out of the UK in the early 90s. With hit after hit of dancefloor cuts I was hooked with their Nu NRG sound that they had penned. Some of the acts on the label that I liked were JX, Tin Tin Out, Sister Bliss, Hyper Go Go, Escrima, Hyperlogic and many more.

This track Hypnotized (Bottin’s Mercurial Mix) by Oscar G & Stryke comes off the Some Of These Were Hooj Volume 4 and it’s the standout cut from a very cool, cool compilation. The compilation includes many acts you’ll probably remember if you were tuned into the dance scene that came out of the UK in 90s. Complete tracklist below and a free preview of Hypnotized (Bottin’s Mercurial Mix) by Oscar G & Stryke. And for you 80s fanatics there’s a remix of Human League’s The Things That Dreams Are Made Of.

  11. Shiny Toy Guns Cover Peter Schilling With Major Tom (Coming Home)

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

Here’s a pretty darn cool remake of one of my favorite songs from the late 80s! I used to hear this on Live 105 all the time when it became a hit and was a fan of Peter Schilling’s album A Different Story so I was happy to have heard that there was a darn cool remake for this song. Cool of a remake to make it into a Lincoln commercial. Well Lincoln I don’t really care about but the Shiny Toy Guns version is certainly bringing back memories of the late 80s. What do you think of the two versions?

Prior to this song I hadn’t heard of Shiny Toy Guns much in fact not at all but because of this I had to go download their album Girls Le Disko. It’s certainly worth owning! Good enough is a live German version of the Peter Schilling song below.

  12. John Dahlbäck Remixes Sinfonia Della Notte by Dennis Ferrer

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

Impressive US House track by Dennis Ferrer really didn’t need the remix treatment as the original is awesome as it is. I first heard of Sinfonia Della Notte by Dennis Ferrer off of the House Masters: Dennis Ferrer album last year and immediately fell in love with it. When I heard about this remix I was hastily interested in checking it out but unfortunately it fell flat compared to the original. I love John Dahlback’s music hands down but this remix he did is quite weak. Check it out what do you think?

I love The Girl and The Robot by Royksopp in it’s original form not remixed and I love the fact that Royksopp used Robyn on vocals I think the combo was perfect. The song has a huge remix package but gosh I hate to say and I will say all of the remixes SUCK! Except this a classical orchestral interpretation of the original The Girl And The Robot. I can’t figure out why I don’t like any of the remixes but I know I love the original and it’s so good maybe the remixes just don’t come close to the original or perfect on the original. Oh well, not all remixes are good. This interpretation I do like because it’s so out there from the original. Check it out and let me know what you think.

One listen to Slave from Magnum 38 and you’ll immediately think Booty Bass shaking piece of music it is. Slave is from a tribute album to Grace Jones along with several other but I found Slave to be the most approachable followed right up with Suffer. I don’t really recognize any of the tracks on the ep except for this track Slave. It’s quite repetitive but in a good way with lots of deep, heavy bass which is meant to be heard in a loud, dark club. Some of the music is sort of on the leftfield with lots of nasty attitude. Those of you Grace Jones fans might not really dig it but hey if you have an open mind you might. Check it out it will grow on you. And you’ll really hear the sounds of Berlin blasting at you as that’s where Magnum 38‘s from! Makes sense including the album artwork!

Listening to the original gives me goosebumps as I have a love/hate relationship with this track. A good and bad time in my life. But the remake by Chromeo is quite fun and slightly quirky as they are known for producing. Check them out below. This cover is released as part of the DJ Kicks mix CD. It’s perfectly placed in the mix. The disc also contains some flashback 80s tracks by France Joli, Kano, Donna Allen and Leo Sayer. A great mix for anyone into synth dance pop with an 80s sound. This remake by Soda Inc. is a midtempo electro disco cover of that track. It’s mostly sexy beats except for the main part “Set Me Free Why Don’t You Babe … You Just Keep Me Hangin’ On.
