This is the strangest, gayest Diana Ross remake, sample, cover ever. I like it actually and it sounds like something RuPaul could have pulled off back in the 90s or it could have perfectly fit in the film Paris Is Burning from ’91. Though there’s no RuPaul here this remake called Pseudo Wind by Sana Doris comes to us by way of the In Flagranti guys by way of Codek Records. So it’s gotta be cool right? This is from the 12″ SOUNDS SUPERB VOL. 6 and it’s worth it. If you can’t get your hands on it do it as fast as you can. Or else  you have Pseudo Wind by Sana Doris below so you can sample that and check out In Flagranti for more disco dance flavored releases. Space is one of my favorite space disco acts from the late 70s! Hailing from the South Of France, they released countless spacey sounding energetic disco tracks with their biggest hit being Magic Fly! From that self titled album this song Carry On, Turn Me On original version is pulled from. Magic Fly the album also contains the excellent track Tango In Space. It’s an excellent album and certainly worth as Space and main frontman Didier Marouani is one of the innovators of electronic dance music.

Bottin’s remix take on Carry On, Turn Me On is also excellent. It’s part of a killer compilation of great new remixes of Space tracks. King DJ’s awesome remake of Air Force is the highlight of the remix set along with this Bottin Remix of Carry On, Turn Me On. Other remixers include Sara Havcilek doing the remixing on Fasten Seat Belt which I also love and Foto’s Boulevard Of Dreams Mix of Deliverance rocks! Overall Space tracks have been given great new life in this collection of awesome remixes and I highly recommend any disco, electronic fan to own these great remixes and classic releases by Space.

Forbidden Colours is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever recorded. It was originally released back in 1983 and was a collaboration between Ryuichi Sakamoto and David Sylvian (from the band Japan) which was also part of the soundtrack to the film Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence starring David Bowie.

So CFCF has taken that most beautiful classical and electronic new age recording by Ryuichi Sakamoto and David Sylvian and elevated it for todays ears and it works darn good. I love it. CFCF aka Mike Silver actually even sings on this recording which still makes it even better. It’s a very soft spoken quiet kind of speaking that even sounds like the original. Check out both the original and the remake below.

I’ve been digging CFCF for quite sometime now. I was first introduced to his sound with some remixes he did for Sallly Shapiro later found his albums and fell in love with Big Love the Fleetwood Mac cover (which is awesome) and later I came across this recording which I love. I

I can’t wait to hear more from CFCF and I can only hope that he’s working on some more excellent cuts like what he’s released so far!

Ok whatever you say and I don’t really care what you say I am the worlds biggest Pet Shop Boys fan. Since I heard West End Girls in 1985 I was hooked. The guys are very talented at what they do and they have released some of best music in the last almost 30 years. So I love the Pet Shop Boys. I also love any remixes or remakes of their music that I hear.

So I ran across this wonderful house bordering on trance remake of their hit West End Girls by James Talk & Ridney and I love what I hear. These guys are great and they keep collaborating on many different cuts and I’m hooked at what they release. This is a really fun electro-swing version of the old John Buzon Trio version of Caravan by Benny Berigan. This is Benny Berigan from now and not the Benny Berigan that died in 1942 who also performed the recording. The original version of Caravan was written by Juan Tizol and sometimes also credited to Irving Mills but he’s only credited for the vocal versions. Countless jazz musicians and later exotica musicians have covered or remade Caravan. It’s been sampled and remixed throughout the years. My favorite version so far is the exotica version by The John Buzon Trio until I discovered the Benny Berigan version on an electro-swing compilation.

There’s also a very nice remixed version of The John Buzon Trio exotica version of Caravan remixed by Eat Static which I think is still excellent since it’s been 10+ years since that remix came out. I’m glad to have discovered this Eat Static Remix. It’s off an excellent compilation that is out of print called Electro Lounge – Electronic Excursions In Hi-Fi Stereo. Loads of great old jazz and exotica recordings that are excellently remixed. Most are still fresh today. Remixes included on this collection are Q-Burns Abstract Message Remixing Yma Sumac, Omni Trio remixing John Barry, Wagon Christ remixing April Stevens, Utah Saints remixing King Curtis and many more. I love it!

The Benny Berigan version is from an ep that’s available called the Caravan Adaptation EP which also has another couple of great electro-swing tracks on it including one called Snake Charmer.

This is a good example of a very bland boring alternative rock song that has been given LIFE by a really cool remix treatment by Rory Phillips! I’m so glad that the band The XX commissioned this remix by Rory Phillips as I really did not like the original.  There’s hardly any music on the original version of this song except for the bland singing. Ok the music does kick in a bit halfway through but then it fizzles out again. Sorry guys it’s needing something and luckily this Rory Phillips remix does wonders to it. The remix has a synthy, bouncy disco beat added to the very flat singing by the two members of The XX which actually compliment together quite well. Up until I heard this remix that I started liking the original version of  Crystalised. I can always say that remixes do what videos did to me when music videos were popular. Remixes turn me on to music that normally I wouldn’t listen to. Now I’m a fan of The XX like everyone else! Check out both original and remixed version below. The electro-swing movement is alive and kicking in Europe but when is it going to really catch on here in the states? It’s a truly fun movement with loads of great releases! My first experience was buying the excellent G-Swing release back in 2006 when I visited Paris for the first time and it seems since then it’s gotten bigger and bigger with countless releases. For instance there’s been 3 Electro Swing releases and it’s not only the Electro Swing compilations. Here’s the list of Compilations available in this specific style/genre:

Electro Swing – The Club
Electro Swing 2
Electro Swing 3
White Mink (Electro Swing Versus Speakeasy Jazz)
Electronic Swing Affair
Art Of Electro Swing
The Electro Swing Revolution

And this is just a list of the compilations. There’s a whole list of artists that are releasing this style of music and have been for quite sometime now and it’s not only Parov Stelar that’s embraced this subgenre. There’s:

Well this remake of Fred Astaire’s Cheek To Cheek is one of those excellent remakes which basically samples Fred Astaire into a more upbeat electro-swing version of the original Cheek To Cheek by Fred Astaire. DJ Disse and Betina Bager do a very nice job here adding a quirkyness to it as it’s very bouncy and cartoony at times. You also here the tapping that’s a trademark of the era of this music and Fred Astaire himself. I discovered this version off of Electro Swing 3 but it’s also available as a single the Cheek To Cheek EP. Now we hope we can get more Fred Astaire Remixes album?? This isn’t the first Fred Astaire electro-swing remake either. Club Des Belugas SWOP includes a Puttin’ On The Ritz electro-swing version that’s also worth noting.

I first heard General Motors, Detroit, America early last year and I fell in love with it. It kind of sounds like the soundtrack music to either an 80s Sci-Fi film or maybe even a mysterious documentary from that era. It’s cool. It’s perfect synth electronic with very 80s touches thrown in there. It truly has a very soundtrack feel to it. I can see it perfectly in Tron or something like that.

Well I love the Blackstrobe remix even more. The original is more mellow sort of a downtempo thing but Blackstrobe have made it more clubby and bouncy but still keeping the mysteriousness. This release is off of the Acid Washed (love their name btw) album by the same name. If you are at all into synthy 80s inspired electro and electronic music then this album will satisfy you completely. I love it! It’s mostly all instrumental cuts and very bouncy fun music. The release is from Record Makers one of my favorite labels out of France! Home to folks like Sebastien Tellier, Kavinsky and more.

Tasmin Archer’s biggest hit Sleeping Satellite was a fun and obscure pop hit that came out of nowhere in 1992 to land on the pop charts. Later Tasmin Archer was nowhere to be found. I loved this song back in the early 90s and I think I have not heard much more from Tasmin since then. So Tasmin certainly reached the one hit wonder status but the song is certainly solid and still sounds great today. The remake here by Jan Johnston is quite good. Released by Perfecto Records, Paul Oakenfold’s 90s mega dance label that’s released countless trance hits is behind the production here. I think Jan Johnston does a pretty good job at singing this cut. I like it and I’m so happy that’s been remade as it deserves to be noticed today. The single package contains several remixes that are highly recommended to owning but this is the Club Mix below along with the original Tasmin Archer version that if you were too young or not around in 1992 you wouldn’t even know about it. This remake came out in 2009. Original Tasmin Archer version of Sleeping Satellite is off of Tasmin’s Great Expectations CD.

Gosh! Witch Doktor is the classic house track that broke Armand Van Helden into the dance charts. Witch Doktor was released in 94 which became a big hit which later led him to remix some of the worlds biggest acts including one of my favorite remixes ever of Professional Widow by Tori Amos which you can find here on Destroy Rock And Roll blog. Well I’m glad that it’s finally been remixed and updated for folks to enjoy today. It’s remixed by Eddie Thoneick and it’s got a very upbeat electro house feel to it with a very energetic groove. Get on the dancefloor and groove to the beats like it’s 1994.

Although this remix to a classic Armand Van Helden track is not as great as Funk Phenomena remixed by Starkillers it’s still highly recommended for anyone into Armand Van Helden’s music or any dance music enthusiasts. Check them both out below. The 1994 version and the 2009 version.
