Shanti Dance is one of those dreamy, moody disco flavored dance tracks that you just can’t get enough of! It’s starts out mellow, gets into a modern nu disco beat then turns a different direction then head back to where the beats were. It’s quite an original track that I’ve been listening to for quite some time now. It’s got some slight touches of world beats hence the name Shanti Dance but it’s perfection! The remix by The Glimmers is quite nice too but certainly gets into the acid territory as the name suggests and it certainly is a dub style rather than a full on remix that you would expect. The Glimmers also give it a more funky beat to it certainly their trademark sound and style touches have been added to the remix. But I have to be honest my favorite is the excellent original version from the the album Frankie Splits. That’s the version I keep coming back to over and over again. The rest of Frankie Splits is a smorgasbord of eclectic musical styles mostly favoring the electronic genre but certainly crossing over into hip-hop and rap territory and some pop and alternative. It’s definitely a good album and worth noting. Album released on Compost Records. The remix is off of Mutations 2 Single.

Both highly recommended for original cool electronic and dance music from Germany!

I love a good remix of a good classic electronic cut from the 80s. I’m really digging this an awesome electro industrial, ebm classic like Control (I’m Here) by Nitzer Ebb way back from 1988 remixed by The Hacker of the Miss Kittin And The Hacker fame. I think that Nitzer Ebb are such an underrated band that anything greatest hits wise or remixes wise or even some new material they put out I’m there to hear it first. This remix of course came out in 2006 and I love what The Hacker has done to it. The original Control (I’m Here) from their excellent album Belief (which also contains Shame and Hearts and Minds) is of course what really got me into Nitzer Ebb, hearing it on the radio in San Francisco on Live 105 and finding out about them opening up for Depeche Mode countless times has made me a big fan. It’s Nitzer Ebb’s music that I got into all the industrial bands like Nine Inch Nails (pre 90s), Frontline Assembly, Front 242, Skinny Puppy, Thrill Kill Kult and more.

If only this music lasted? Probably not but whatever! We can still enjoy the classics like this. This remix by The Hacker is off of the Nitzer Ebb greatest hits CD Compilation.

Electropop group Coco Electrik covers Apollonia 6 hit song Sex Shooter from the Prince film Purple Rain? It’s certainly a fun take on the classic 80s dance funk song produced by Prince but the original is classic in my book and this remake falls a bit short but still fun though as I wont dismiss it completely. I just hope someone else comes around and remakes this a little better. Sex Shooter the Apollonia 6 cover by Coco Electrik is off of their Army Behind The Sun album and Sex Shooter single with bonus remixes.

Dutch trance act Rank 1, have remixed Freddie Mercury’s classic song Love Kills from the 80s Metropolis film revival soundtrack. Since the original film was a silent film somehow they figured there should be a new version of the film released with a new soundtrack produced by the God himself, Giorgio Moroder who also produced this classic song Love Kills for Freddie Mercury. Love Kills and Living On My Own are the two songs that really stand out from Freddie Mercury’s solo work. Although there are other songs that are available too like The Great Pretender, I Was Born To Love You, Made In Heaven but the the two former mentions are the songs I know Freddie Mercury’s solo music by. All of these mentioned tracks as well as really cool new remixes of them are available on The Very Best Of Freddie Mercury Solo album and worth it for sure as there are some really cool cuts that you probably have never heard of. It includes music from his work with soprano Montserrat Caballé.

The remix to Love Kills is by the trance act Rank 1 better known for their late 90s trance track Airwave. Here the 80s version of Love Kills is remixed to perfection by Rank 1 and I’m really digging it and I’m sure you will too? Rank 1 Remix is not the only remix of Love Kills as there are remixes by Sunshine People, Pixel82 and a rework by The Glimmers. So The Very Best Of Freddie Mercury Solo album is certainly worth checking out as those remixes and remixes of other songs are all there!

Spacer Woman by Charlie is one of my all time favorite Italo Disco tracks. I remember hearing in the early 80s but it came and went as I was only 13 when it was released. But later about 8 years ago is when I rediscovered again. Actually in 2004 it was on a compilation called I-Robots: Italo Electro Disco Underground Classics that I rediscovered this track and since then I haven’t stopped listening to it. Boy does this track still sounds fresh today or what? Luckily too that there have been some remixes and remakes by Sally Shapiro and I-Robots that sound just as fresh as the original 1983 version of Spacer Woman by Charlie. Italo Disco was that genre that came out in the early 80s to sound fresh and underground to become cheesy and overplayed/overproduced by the 80s came to a close. Luckily there are cool cuts like Spacer Woman to revisit that spacey 80s sound.

I-Robot’s version of Spacer Woman has been beefed up and been given the production treatments of todays technologies. The woman vocals have been removed and robotic vox have taken over which actually works quite awesomely. Then the Sally Shapiro version basically is replaced by Sally’s trademark vox mostly sung version. There are 3 versions of Spacer Woman on the single from Sally Shapiro and Johan Agebjörn. The upbeat remake which is still my favorite, the more spacey – mellow – ambient version called Deeper Space Woman and the spacey disco house version called Outer Space Woman (Parts 1 & 2). On the single is also a track called Mega Man 2 which is very video game soundtrack inspired cut. Very 80s for sure.

Future Retro is an album certainly worth owning. It has some of the best songs from the 1980s remixed to todays tastes. Mostly club and electronic remixes of well known tracks such as Situation by Yaz, Need You Tonight by Inxs, The Walk by The Cure and many many more cuts. I wanted to post Forever Young today since it’s almost 2011 and I figured a remix of Forever Young by Hamel off of Future Retro would be best!

The remix is excellent and any purists will still dig this remix of Forever Young by the German synth pop band, Alphaville from the 80s. Gosh I love this song and it will always remind me of high school in the 80s! Enjoy!

This is one of the sexiest remixes made ever. Taking a very romantic and beautiful song and giving it a midtempo beat to is is alright in my book. Sexy cocktail lounge, hotel bar music is what this remix of Nina Simone’s The Look Of Love sounds like. Taken from Nina Simone’s Remixed & Reimagined CD from a few years ago and I highly recommend getting it because it’s a beautiful collection of Nina Simone recordings all updated with today’s remixing styles. This post is about one of the best remixes ever made! That is Modeselektor’s Dancing Box track remixed by Sleeparchive. The original is this glitchy techno grime dub fusion thing with vox by TTC but the remix is a complete dirty gritty euphoric cut that takes you into outer space and back. It’s the bomb and I just can’t get enough of the beats. I would enjoy this remix with a very fine soundsystem so you an enjoy all it’s sounds. The Dancing Box Sleeparchive Remix is off the Hello Mom Remixes release which also includes Silikon (Siriusmo Remix), Fake Emotion (Dabrye Remix) and Silikon (Grime Remix). These are remixes from their awesome Hello Mom album! Highly recommend the  package of awesome remixes of a very cool act as well as their album Hello Mom!

Not very familiar with Sleeparchive but I sure do like his sound! Enjoy both below …

Such a cool discover this was. Check out the cool spacey electro disco beats with the sad robotic vocals. I absolutely love this cut! I don’t really know much about The Hasbeens but once I heard of Make The World Go Away I was sure enough to learn more about them. They have several 12″ releases which are available as Digital Downloads here which are sure to delight even further as this is certainly a solid release. The guys are from The Netherlands and that’s pretty much all I know about The Hasbeens.

Theme from A ‘Summer Place’ by Percy Faith falls into cheesy elevator music territory. It’s a piece of music that most anyone will recognize when they hear it. I love though what Kenneth Bager has done by sampling Theme From ‘A Summer Place’. Check out the original and sampled version by Kenneth Bager below. The new version contains the haunting violin music of Jean Luc Ponty and the beautiful vocals of Nikolaj Grandjean singing Love Won’t Leave Me Alone … when you’re gone. I think this is a great job at sampling something that most folks will recognize and making it completely different where you’ll want to hear it where as Them From ‘A Summer Place’ in it’s original form you kind of skip or turn off if it ever came on. Check them out below. And download the rest of Kenneth Bager’s album Fragment From A Space Cadet. It’s an awesome album and there are  several masterpieces including two tracks by Julie Cruise from Twin Peaks fame. She does a remake of Les Fleur on Fragments.
