I figured since we are now in December a holiday themed post is in order!

This Sleigh Ride, the Ferrante & Teicher popular Christmas track remixed by Ralph Myerz is one of my favorite tracks to play around the holidays. It’s fun, lively somewhat quirky and one of the standout cuts off of the fun Christmas CD called Merry Mixmas. Wait I take that back it’s not on the CD Merry Mixmas it’s a bonus download for that CD release. When I first bought Merry Mixmas this cut was not on there so I went and downloaded it and I wish they had actually included this track on the disc. Oh well stupid major label marketing crap. If you can get your hands on this (well you are able to get your hands on it here) then I would and you’ll know what I’m talking about. It’s so much FUN!

I think Mylo’s album Destroy Rock And Roll is genius! I’m mean come on? I’ve got a whole website named after it right? I think it’s one of the best albums of the 2000’s. It’s perfection and this track In My Arms is a great example of a sampling job done perfectly. Mylo has taken the classic Bette Davis Eyes by Kim Carnes and made his own song In My Arms. I’m sure most of you have heard it but did you know it contained a sample of the high energy pop song Bette Davis Eyes by Kim Carnes? Well now you do. Check them out both below and you’ll see.

Bette Davis Eyes is off of Kim’s Mistaken Identity album from 1981. Almost 30 years old now. I was only 10! Enjoy.

Watch the video to In My Arms as well below. I wasn’t able to embed Bette Davis Eyes unfortunately. So you can go find it at youtube if you feel like!

Buy Destroy Rock And Roll here. Trust me you wont be disappointed. It’s chock full of awesome beats! And this US edition also contains Doctor Pressure the Miami Sound Machine Dr. Beat/Drop The Pressure mash up. Worth every penny!

I love it when DJ’s or artists remix very well known tracks but legends. This remix was done by Paul Oakenfold of the classic Doors track L.A. Woman I dig it very much. It’s now around 5 or 6 years old but hey L.A. Woman never gets tired and this remix is just the same. It’s not your typical dance remix here Paul Oakenfold keeps the same elements of the original Doors song but the remix has an added oomph factor to it. Check them both out below. Gosh Paul Oakenfold got his start in the late 80s/early 90s and I’ve been following his music since then and he’s certainly come along way and this remix is just an example of his great remixing talents. This remix appears on Perfect Presents The Club disc. Oh and check the promo video below for L.A. Woman by The Doors

I was never a big fan of In And Out Of My Life by Adeva but this remix has changed my opinion about this house classic from 1988. It’s been remixed and remade countless times but this remix by Eric Prydz wins me over. Eric Prydz gives it a slight electro touch to the house music classic. Check them both out below. The original by Adeva and the Eric Prydz sampled track which is a remix of his own working of In And Out. The original version below is the 1995 rerelease with a new remix by Roger Sanchez.

    Enjoy!

  5. Simply Red’s Sunrise Samples Hall & Oates I Can’t Go For That

Here’s a pretty darn good sample of the Hall & Oates track I Can’t Go For That in Simply Red’s track Sunrise. The song itself is really good and the sample of the Hall & Oates track I Can’t Go For That just works perfectly. Some of the lyrics to Sunrise changes over to the Hal & Oates song in Sunrise and comes back to the Sunrise lyrics. So it’s well done. This track Sunrise is off of the Simply Red album Home. A perfect blend of vocal R&B, pop and jazziness. The singles from the release including Sunrise and also Home and Fake all have remixes available. All are available for download from your favorite download store like Amazon, Emusic and iTunes!

For now check out both Sunrise and I Can’t Go For That below and feel free to comment. Before you do that check out the video for Sunrise here …

Check this out … this track The Way It Is by The Prodigy is off of their very underrated, underperformed and top notch album Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned and it samples the legendary singer Michael Jackson’s song Thriller perfectly. I love it! Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned’s tracks are chock full of samples and this track is one of the better ones that utilizes the samples the best especially with such a recognizable song by Mr Michael Jackson himself. The album Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned came out in 2004 and no one even knew it came out but the album flows very fast from one track to another and it’s one of The Prodigy’s better albums.

Check out Michael Jackson with Thriller below then listen to The Way It Is by The Prodigy and you’ll see what I mean by awesome sampling. Links below.

  7. Into U (Featuring Jarvis Cocker) by Richard X

Hey this is a fun version of the Mazzy Star classic Fade Into You. This one has the voice of Jarvis Cocker from the indie UK band Pulp. Into U is pulled from the Richard X Presents His X-Factor Vol. 1 album which also includes tracks and hits with the vocals of Annie, Kelis, Sugababes and Tiga. It’s a pretty darn great and very underrated album and well worth owning if you are at all into remakes, remixes and sampling as it sure contains tons of samples from famous recordings. But this remake is pretty worth the album since I do love Fade Into You very much and it’s always nice to hear remakes of it.

I love this … it’s a remake of Satisfaction by Benny Bennasi from about 5 years ago. I love the original but Who Made Who have taken the electro smash and made it into an 80s influenced rockin, new wavish cut. Very recommended! Check them out below and let me know what you think.

  9. Birth, School, Work, Death by Manhead Featuring Christian Cruz

Don’t know much about this release of Birth, School, Work, Death by Manhead Featuring Christian Cruz but I sure do know the original by The Godfathers. The one hit wonder modern rockers that I heard countless times on Live 105. It’s a pretty darn good track the original that is but the remake is not as exciting as the original but it really does grow on you. What do you think? It’s a midtempo clubby electro sounding update and yes it truly does grow on you. It’s quite fun!

    Disco_Dimensions_Vol_1

    Manhead_Birth_School_Work_Death

I first heard of this remake on the Disco Demensions, Vol. 1 CD then I was like hey I remember that track by The Godfathers back in 1987/1988. Wait do I have my dates right? Ok just looked it up and their album Birth, School, Work, Death was released in 1988 on Epic Records. The newer remake is available as a (if you can find it) 12″ vinyl single as well.

  10. Sex Beat (Remix) by Two Lone Swordsmen

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

I’ve never really been a fan of The Gun Club but I do love their track Sex Beat. The LA punk band really delivers on this track. What I really love though are the remakes by Two Lone Swordsmen especially the remix of their version.

The vocals by the The Lone Swordsmen are dark, moody and the beats are fast and pounding. This track is not for your typical club but I could see it in an Industrial or darker clubs out there. What do you think?

The original is off The Two Lone Swordsmen’s album called From The Double Gone Chapel but the remix of course is from the Sex Beat single. Their sound on this album is more dub and seventies sounding than their previous efforts. Two Lone Swordsmen is off of the famous Warp Records! A who’s who of dark electronica. Cool stuff.

Gun Club doing Sex Beat live on stage … not my cup of tea but still love the original of this song.

  11. The Windmills Of Your Mind by Orange Factory

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

I just love this remake of the classic Noel Harrison track from the film The Thomas Crown Affair. This is a nice midtempo piece by Orange Factory a downtempo chillout act. They are not very well known as I can’t find much information about them but they are from the Irma Music label in Bologna Italy. One of my favorite labels and this remake is pretty darn good. It’s all instrumental just like it should be. Nice background music you can chill too. Although I love the Dusty Springfield version which I have below for you all to compare to. What do you think? In the film The Thomas Crown Affair (the original version with Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway) was an instrumental piece. Later Dusty Springfield had sung it which became a pretty nice hit for her.

The Windmills Of Your Mind was written by Alan Bergman, Marilyn Bergman and Michel LeGrand with the French title being Les moulins de mon cœur.

BTW Sting did a cover version of The Windmills Of Your Mind for the 1999 remake of The Thomas Crown Affair.

  12. Sex Dwarf by Dirty Sanchez

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

Ok! Sex Dwarf is already a pretty sleazy track by Soft Cell. Taken off of their masterpiece first release Non Stop Erotic Cabaret that contained the worldwide new wave hit Tainted Love, Sex Dwarf was not really really a hit for them. It wasn’t even released as a single but it made some waves in the late 80s and early 90s on Modern Rock and College radio stations. That is when I first heard the Soft Cell version of Sex Dwarf. I quickly fell in love with the song.

Now we have a remake or cover shall we say by Dirty Sanchez that takes the original Sex Dwarf by Soft Cell and they add their signature electrosexual sleazy naughty sound to it. The Dirty Sanchez version comes off of their Really Rich Italian Satanists ep of four songs that includes the underground sleazier hit Fucking On The Dancefloor. You got to check out Dirty Sanchez if you haven’t already. If you are at all into electro or anything that sounds a bit 80s or if you are into RuPaul then Dirty Sanchez is up your alley.

I do like the original Sex Dwarf as it’s much superior but I could really see the Dirty Sanchez version at some underground New York or San Francisco club.

Lead singer Jackie Beat has been around for quite sometime now. Even appeared on the Wigstock Soundtrack.

Ok this is real fun version of the great Beyonce track Crazy In Love. This version of Beyonce’s track is off of their album Postcard From Summerisle – and it’s a really fun album. There’s also a remake of Can’t Get You Out Of My Head by Kylie among other original tracks like The Birds & The Bees – check below for the video on youtube.

It’s definitely a fun album and worth checking out to discover something new.

  14. Gypsy Woman (Acapella) vs Gypsy Woman (Dim’s Special Re–Touch) by Crystal Waters vs Montefiori Cocktail

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

Here’s a song that came out way back in 1991 around the time when house and dance music was just about to explode. It’s a great pop dance track and has a nice groovy beat to it. Crystal Waters was just an up and coming singer when this came – she later had another song 100% Pure Love a couple of years later but this was the song that put her on the map. I especially love the La Da Di La Di Da part as it’s quite catchy!

This version is totally different and it’s excellent. It’s been given the jazzy loungy treatment by Montefiori Cocktail from Italy. it’s still quite upbeat but you got the big band horns and the live orchestra sounds that goes along with the jazzy feel. I absolutely love it. This version though comes off of the Dimitri From Paris In The House – off of the 3rd disc that is unmixed. Dimitri From Paris has added the Acapella of Gypsy Woman to the instrumental remix of it by Montefiori Cocktail. Check it out and let me know what you think of the two different versions. I think the new version is quite more now and it doesn’t sound so dated like the original does. Boy when I hear the original version it certainly takes me back. Way back to 1991! Long time ago!
