Just What I Needed is the classic 80s song by the band The Cars! This is a fun remake by the all girl group Whatever It Takes – W.I. T. The Larry Tee produced electro synth pop group’s first single release Ooh I Like It was a fun cut similar in style and sound to 80s acts like The Flirts, Stacey Q and even acts like Company B and the like. Later when their album came out I discovered the fun little remake of Just What I Needed. This music is bubblegum, cute and very pop inflected sound. I think Larry Tee was very influenced by those types of bands and sounds to produce a fun album.

The band is no longer now but this sound is still now so go check out the cuts by Whatever It Takes. In addition to The Cars cover Just What I Needed and Ooh, I Like It . Then there’s an Arthur Baker remixed cut Hold Me, Touch Me (with even a Blackstrobe Remix out there somewhere), I Surrender and finally their theme song Whatever It Takes. Overall a great fun poppy album worth hearing and owning for sure. The softer poppier side of Glass Candy, Ladytron and Adult!

Good old disco songs updated? That’s my cup of tea. I love me some disco, one of my favorite genres in the dance electronic genre. I can never get enough of it! If you don’t like disco then I don’t like you! Gosh what the fuck were they thinking of when they were burning and destroying disco records in the late 70s? Americans are so sensitive to dance music! Well they must be sensitive to a lot more because the same freaks did the same thing to the Dixie Chics! Whatever!

Anyways this song is one of my favorite disco songs. Got To Have Loving by Don Ray from the album The Garden Of Love and produced by Cerrone is a classic from the late 70s. The Sucker DJ’s have taken that classic disco tune from the late 70s and have given it the house/club treatment here and sped it up and adapted it to todays ears. It’s not a remix or is it? This is an awesome downtempo groove version of the Donald Byrd jazz classic Think Twice by Ralph Myerz & The Jack Herren Band. Whereas the Donald Byrd version is quite 70s smooth and funky sounding the Ralph Myerz & The Jack Herren band version is quite cool and laidback and has the after the clubbing vibe to it. It features the vocals of Christine Sandtorv. Check them both out below.

The Ralph Myerz version is off of A Special Album which came out in 2003. The Donald Byrd version is off of his Stepping Into Tomorrow album.

I got it off of the compilation Lounge Records Sampler, Vol. 2 – Past, Present & Future. It’s a decent compilation with the stand out cut being the Peter Gunn track by The Killergroove Formula. There’s also a remix by Fort Knox Five of Are You Talking To Me??? by Torpedo Boyz, Flight Over Rio by Timax and a cover (I like covers if you haven’t guessed already) of Harvest For The World by Seductive Souls which is a cover of the Isley Brothers original.

This remake or cover is quite good if not better than the original. It’s fast and quite upbeat with a quirky retro sounding electronic dance beat. What do you think? The original is still quite good but this is great too.

I like to take a hip hop song like Hot In Herre by Nelly and make it a bassy electronic vocal track. This is what Tiga has done with Hot In Herre. I really was not into the original by Nelly until I heard the Tiga version so then I started listening to the Nelly version I started liking it.

Tiga has hired Jake Shears of Scissor Sisters to do the vocals on this track and I think it’s quite perfect. Check out the really creepy video with the string dolls of the song. It’s fun but very creepy to me. Remember chuckie?

Anyway what do you think of the two versions? What do you like and not like about them?

Here’s a great update to a rather boring release from Dannii Minogue. I Begin To Wonder, off of Minogue’s Neon Nights release is a little on the flat side if you know what I mean. It’s ok but it just never grabbed me. So it’s one of the dismissmasible cuts off of Neon Nights.

Of course You Spin Me Round Like A Record is a classic top pop hit from the 80s by Dead Or Alive and the two tracks together have mashed into a great club track.

This is perfect and a great mash up and it really deserves countless plays. I still play it as I love the original by Dead Or Alive but this version adds a breath of fresh air to the song. Mash ups are usually not my favorite types of updates but this really is perfect.

I think out of all of Dannii Minogues tracks this is my favorite. It’s fun, upbeat and gets you going. Check it out and let me know what you think of the three different versions. Do you like the mash up?
