  1. Danny Tenaglia Covers Front 242 With Headhunter

Headhunter is one of my all time favorite Industrial tracks if not one of my all time favorite songs ever and to have heard of a remake by Danny Tenaglia in the late 90s was a pretty good surprise from the legendary house music DJ and producer. Headhunter Front 242′s cover song is off of Danny Tenaglia’s Tourism CD and it ends the disc on a very high note. Although Tourism is mostly house vocal house with dashes of progressive thrown in here and there in Danny Tenaglia’s typical deep dark tribaly style (check out Elements on Tourism) that he’s known for but then Headhunter is a slight bit more industrial as it’s a remake of one of the biggest electro industrial songs around and it works great.

Tourism is chock full of big club hits for Danny Tenaglia. From the opening track Baby, Do You Feel Me? with awesome vocals by Teena Marie, to Elements, Music Is The Answer (Dancin’ & Prancin’ sung by Celeda to Turn Me On, The Better Days being my favorite cut along with Headhunter on Tourism and with excellent vocals by Cevin Fisher and a very deep dark sexy dance beat rocks and still fresh today and Roots (The Sound Of The Drum) all became hits in the club world and landing on the dance charts.

2 years after Tourism was released Headhunter by Front 242 received the well deserved remix treatment and I must say those remixes are some of the best of Headhunter by Front 242. Of the package of remixes Noisex Remix of Headhunter is my favorite as dark and heavy on the bass beats with a sleazyness to it. I also like Resistance D Mix, Space Frog Mix, Aqualite Mix and finally the Doug Laurent Mix. But the package of remixes is a must, must have for any Front 242 or remix fan!

  2. Moskow Diskow (Carl Craig Remix–Single Edit) by Telex

Moskow Diskow (or Discow) is one of those rare classic synth pop, new wave tracks that wont go out of style. First released in 1979 off of the Looking For Saint Tropez album it became a classic right away and a huge club hit in The States in the 80s putting the Belgian band in the same caliber as Kraftwerk as their music is quite similar to Kraftwerk’s. I love a good remix and this remix Moskow Diskow by Carl Craig came out in 1998 and it basically updates the classic synth sound of the original Moskow Diskow which I still love. There’s a whole bunch of new remixes of Moskow Diskow that came out last year but this Carl Craig remix is still very fresh today as it’s very much keeping the 80s synth sound with a 90s remix production but with the 80s sound in vogue currently the original English version and French version of Moskow Diskow are pretty darn cool all over again! Enjoy below.

  3. Electrotheque Cover Hot Chocolate With Every 1′s A Winner

This one’s a fun remake cover track of the popular disco classic Every 1′s A Winner by Hot Chocolate. Electrotheque keep the spirit of the original but they add a funky house robotic groove to their version which somewhat similar to Daft Punks sound which is pretty darn cool. Most of the vocals are removed in this remake except for quiet robotic vox thrown in all of over the place. I don’t remember hearing this back when it came out in 1998 (even though I was buying up all kinds of music back then) when dance music was all over the place but I discovered on a compilation about 5 years ago and couldn’t believe that I had missed such a cool remake. Disco songs were being remixed and remade all over the place in the 90s so for some odd reason I had missed this but glad I discovered it. Even though I like You Sexy Thing, Hot Chocolates bigger hit this song in my book is the stronger of the two and this remix/remake by Electrotheque works wonders. Enjoy both versions below.

  4. Blue Monday (DJ Dan Remix) by Orgy

How do you take one of the best dance singles of all time and redo it? Well record it (but it kinda sucks) then release a bunch of remixes (most sucked) but make sure you get DJ Dan to remix it for you. Well I have to say this remix of Blue Monday by Orgy originally by New Order is quite nice. It’s actually perfection. You can actually hear elements of the original music by New Order in this remix that aren’t in the the original cover by Orgy. So guess what? Which version do you think I like best? I love the remix over the Orgy original. It’s nice and upbeat!

    Check it out and enjoy!

  5. Fools Gold (Grooverider’s Mix) by The Stone Roses

Here’s a great remix from almost 10 years ago (boy time flies!) by way of Grooverider – the jazzy drum and bass maestro known for his release Mysteries Of Funk from 1998. He’s taken the classic indie, Manchester or shall we say Madchester sound song Fools Gold from 1989 and made it a faster, club friendlier track. Fools Gold in it’s original form is already an indie dance classic along with tracks like Loaded and Come Together by Primal Scream and Step On and Bob’s Yer Uncle by Happy Mondays.

Fools Gold was the stand out upbeat track from the The Stone Roses – they are known for I Want To Be Adored but Fools Gold was the big, extra long dance cut off of the mostly indie, modern rock acts releases from the late 80s.

This remix is proof that remixing music is an art form and Grooverider has taken a classic modern rock track and elevated it to a brand new electronic, drum and bass level.

This remix is from the great series of mostly hip hop tracks called Old School Vs. New School which also included remixes of tracks by such artists as A Tribe Called Quest, Whodini and DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince
Check them out and let me know what you think. Feel free to comment.
