  1. Make The World Go Away by The Hasbeens

Such a cool discover this was. Check out the cool spacey electro disco beats with the sad robotic vocals. I absolutely love this cut! I don’t really know much about The Hasbeens but once I heard of Make The World Go Away I was sure enough to learn more about them. They have several 12″ releases which are available as Digital Downloads here which are sure to delight even further as this is certainly a solid release. The guys are from The Netherlands and that’s pretty much all I know about The Hasbeens.

  2. Insomnia by Mike Candys & Jack Holiday

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

This is a darn good remake of the awesome Faithless classic Insomnia from way back in 1997 when electronica broke somewhat big here in the states. This remake by Mike Candys & Jack Holiday takes the classic trademark Faithless sound and built upon that to make a new club track for todays generation. It’s highly recommended and since Insomnia is one of my favorite cuts of all time this I was so excited to hear.

The single is the Original edit, The Christopher S Remix and the Chris Crime Remix which is below.

  3. Ride on Time (Davoli’s Rockdaworld Remix) by Black Box

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

Ride On Time is a classic track and very important to the development of pop house music. It was the song that kick started the big push towards more dance music in the mainstream pop radio. I love it and it’s definitely a classic cut that I keep coming back to. Leave it to the Italians to create such a great song followed by an awesome album Dreamland that I still listen to here and there. I was so happy to have heard of a 20th anniversary remix set that got released last year of Ride On Time. The classic Loleatta Holloway vocal fronted song has been given the great remix treatment with a bunch of new remixes in celebration of the 20th anniversary of Ride On Time. WOW! Can you believe it’s been that long?

Anyway the package is awesome and I highly recommend anyone into Black Box, or dance music

  4. A Bit Patchy by Switch

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

This oversampled piece of music is a great obscure recording by the Michael Viner’s Incredible Bongo Band. It’s been used over and over again for one recording or another dating back to the 70s when it first came out. It’s a great funk underground classic that had a major resurgence back in the late 90s and early 2000s. The list of sampling is long vey long but until A Bit Patchy by Switch came out it was sampled in it’s bits and pieces. This A Bit Patchy incorporates the entire song into an original club tune using Apache cut by Michael Viner’s Incredible Bongo Band. The release has several remixes which you should check out here and one even from Eric Prydz but I still enjoy the original A Bit Patchy since it’s the closest to Apache but with the added club beat sounds of today. Actually this release is from 2005 but still sounds fresh now.

  5. Spaceship (Kris Menace Remix) by Benny Benassi Featuring Kelis

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

Here’s a song that I like better as a remix rather than the original version. The Kris Menace remix is a lot more laidback and smoother sounding than the original. It’s got a sexier, mellower beat which adds a certain something to Kelis’s vocals here. Don’t get me wrong though I still enjoy the original version which is a straight on pop, dance, hip hop crossover hit but it’s like appealing to the masses here.

The single release to Spaceship not only has the Kris Menace remix hut has a ton of other remixes as well. The single release package is well worth it if you love yourself some good club beats as there are a lot of different dance style in the remix package. You’ve got remixes by Fedde Le Grand, Alex Guadino & Jason Rooney, Toxic Avenger and more.

I’ve been following both Kelis and Benny Benassi for almost 10 years now and they’ve been putting out great releases. I can only wait to hear more cuts in the future together and separately. I hear there’s a new album by Benassi called Spaceship. I’ll be waiting to check that out once it’s released for sure.

This is quite the fun remix of a really fun christmas song. Verve continues in the tradition of their awesome Verve Remixed series with Verve Christmas Remixed. Most of the remixes are great with this remix by The Heavy of Zat You, Santa Claus being the strongest from the set. Very fun! Enjoy both original version and remix just in time for the holidays!

  8. Tom’s Diner (Radio Edit) by Bingo Players

I always like an update. I don’t like it when folks complain about things being changed and screwing up with the original. Well I say screw with things as much as you can. I love it when music is remixed, movies remade, books made into movies, movies made into TV shows and so on. This remake is a good example of the Bingo Players having a good old fun time remaking the DNA featuring Suzanne Vega dance pop smash from 1990. I think Suzanne had originally released the song back in 1987 and DNA remixed it secretly and she fell in love with it and the rest was history because I think it was her biggest hit next to Luka! Anyways this is fun, poppy but keeping it in true Bingo Players progressive house style. Enjoy both below.

A classic song by Siouxsie & The Banshees gets covered by Uffie? Ok it’s not bad but the original by Siouxsie & The Banshees is far superior than the Uffie version but Uffie is doing her best to get this remake as best as she can. This is taken from her Sex Dreams And Denim Jeans CD that also includes Pop The Glock, Add SUV, MCs Can Kiss and a bunch of other little goodies. But what’s happend? I thought she going to be the next Ke$ha??? Oh well we can just enjoy her cuts more underground.

  10. The Sun Rising (Pete Gooding Remix) by The Normalites

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

Balearic classic gets covered by Balearic and chillout kings (Steve Miller from Afterlife and Chris Coco) who go by the name of The Normalites. The original by one of my fave underrated bands ever, The Beloved is truly a classic. Originally heard on their excellent classic 1989 album Happiness and later on their Blissed Out album. The track is truly to be played after a late night of partying and clubbing! This new version is definitely improved upon and it’s highly highly recommended. There are three or so versions within the release and this one is my fave as it’s been given the sexy housed up treatment. I’m loving it

Check the original Beloved version and the Pete Gooding Remix by The Normalites below as they surely will bring back memories! 20 year anniversary! Ok perhaps 21 years a long time!

  11. Metal Disco (Legowelt VS. Orgue Electronique Remix) by Hong Kong Counterfeit

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

This awesome remix of Metal Disco dates back to 2000 originally. Then a couple of years later I kept hearing it all over the place on compilations and mixes etc. It’s got that very sexy, sleazy dark electro tinged dance music that’s huge in underground clubs in Germany in cities like Berlin and Munich! It still sounds very fresh and doesn’t feel a bit dated. Hong Kong Counterfeit were associated with DJ Hell’s label International Deejay Gigolo’s and this release is off of the Munich label Erkrankung Durch Musique. This remix by Legowelt Orgue Electronique of Metal Disco has been given the increased BPM treatment and the two versions original and remix version of Metal Disco sound completely different. Both are too cool. Enjoy!

  13. Dancing In Val D’Isere 1970 by Sare Havlicek

Really digging this track Dancing In Val D’Isere 1970 by Sare Havlicek. In fact the whole album, Toscana Nights is quite amazing if you are at all into spacey disco bordering italo and the cool synth sound from the late 70s and 80s! I have not heard of Sare Havlicek prior to just purchasing his album Toscana Nights on a fluke but I’m so glad I did it because this is one of those great albums you will play over and over again. 14. Nick Muir Covers Chaka Khan’s Ain’t Nobody

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

Well I’m really loving this cover, remake or whatever you want to call it. Nick Muir has taken the funk soul classic by Rufus and Chaka Khan and made it an all instrumental progressive house electronic cut. Anything is possible and I love it when a song from one defining genre is taken and remade into a complete other style of song. Makes for more unique listening pleasures. What do you think of this remake?

Nick Muir goes back to the late 90s progressive house and trance sound and he is often associated with John Digweed and the Bedrock label. Once you hear Ain’t Nobody you will realize that trademark sound that’s known as the Bedrock label sound. This is highly recommended and I have not seen an official release of Ain’t Nobody but I found this on a really cool CD called Uncovered. Well worth owning for all the really cool covers and remakes of old songs! Nick Muir is also know for the track from the 90s called Rock Star by Marshall Stax. Remember that???

  15. Vallée De Larmes (Pleasurekraft ‘Sideshow’ Remix) by Jean Claude Ades

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

Whereas the original version of  Vallée De Larmes by Jean Claude Ades is all a full blown instrumental house cut with a slight quirky side to it the Pleasurekraft ‘Sideshow’ Remix has the funny vocals that I’m really digging. Sometimes the Pleasurekraft remix is reminding me of those very popular handbag house cuts from the 90s like Tall & Handsome by Outrage, Something About You by Mr. Roy and Didn’t I Know? (Divas Do The Dancefloor Please) by E.G. Fullalove. Both the original and Pleasurekraft remix are solid versions from this release by Jean Claude Ades and these two versions are tops. There are several others but not quite strong as these two. It’s certainly a quirky release in more ways than one with tons of funny sound effects somewhat bordering exotica/lounge from decades past but keeping in mind it’s dance club music so it’s got the beats that you want it’s just kind of funny! Enjoy both original and Pleasurekraft ‘Sideshow’ Remix below.

  16. Malente Sample That’s The Way (I Like It) by KC & The Sunshine Band

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

This is a really fun groovy remix of I Like It by Malente. The original version of I Like It is quite similar to the original That’s The Way (I Like It) by KC & The Sunshine Band but this remix by Riva Star gives it a little different twist to the disco sound and makes it more up to date and hip club friendly. Overall Malente has taken and old tired disco song that you’ve probably have been hearing for 30+ years and have found it on countless compilations and made it better and more now. Anyone into disco will enjoy both the original I Like It which you can see in the video below and the Riva Star remix below. Feel free to sample the The KC & The Sunshine Band’s version as well. I stumbled onto this great track called Gotta Move by Koen Groeneveld & Addy Van Der Zwan accidentally and have been playing it back to back now for several days. It’s basically a great job sampling Lipps Inc’s Funkytown songs bassline and it’s on a repetitive loop withing a great house, club, electro track. I dig it. Being a true fan of Funkytown by Lipps Inc I truly always await reinterpretations or remixes or great sampling jobs by new tracks and this one wins the prize for sure. It’s very simple but it’s groovy. Check it out. It’s off of several eps called Disko Tek. This being off of Disko Tek 2. Worth it for sure!

  18. Don’t Crash Please (Stereofunk Remix) by Jody Wisternoff

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

Ex Way Out West member Jody Wisternoff’s awesome club house release Don’t Crash Please is a very solid single with 4 different versions. 1 original and 3 remixes of which are all amazing. If you are at all into any house or club tunes then you will not be disappointed with these cuts. No vocals on these cuts but some fine sexy grooves not your typical banging club cuts though. I chose to feature the Stereofunk Remix here because I love Stereofunk and it’s actually slightly better than the other 2 remixes. It’s very bouncy and somewhat dreamy and euphoric. Very fine.

Boy when I think back on the days of Way Out West in the 90s and I think of The Gift and Ajare and I think wow Jody’s morphed from the days of techno to this really awesome house music! I love History by Groove Armada because it’s a chill laidback tune you can play in the background. It’s one of those sexy songs you can listen to over and over again. But when I heard this awesome remix of it by Grum I was totally impressed. It’s been given the electro disco treatment and it sounds very early 80s electro disco R&B. It’s certainly a very impressive remix and I truly dig it. What do you think? Which version do you like?
