  1. I Love Rock N’ Roll (Original Extended Mix) by Alex Gaudino and Jason Rooney

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

I love it when they take an old rock classic song and fuck it up. Well in this case of Alex Gaudino taking on I Love Rock N’ Roll the classic early 80s pop rock anthem by Joan Jett & The Black Hearts it’s not really fucked up I think it’s perfected upon. Remixed to death. I love it and I love this remix. The whole package of 5 different remixes are awesome. Perfect for todays dancefloor or to blast from your speakers speeding down the highway. Or whatever will get you off. Joan Jett & The Blackhearts deserve the remix treatment as their rock and roll classic has been electrified and Alex Gaudino and Jason Rooney have done an wicked remake and sampling job with the original vocals from Joan Jett. At least it sounds like the original vox. You think?  Now after hearing this which came out last year I want to hear more classics remixed. Let’s remix everything shall we?

  2. I Feel Love (Qattara 2004 Remix) by Donna Summer

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

I Feel Love is one of my all time favorite tracks. I love Giorgio Moroder’s masterpiece of a disco dance track that he created. So I’m always up to hearing new remixes or versions of his original classic sung by Miss born again herself Donna Summer. This remix from 5 or so years ago is quite amazing. I think I Feel Love are the beginnings of electronic music when you check out the original you can certainly hear the awesome bassline that addictive sound that makes you want to get on the dance floor and groove. Anyway Qattara have kept that original bassline and have basically taken the classic disco song to new levels. They’ve basically beefed up the sound and brought it into todays production. Check out both below as I know you will be quite happy with this remix.

  3. Hypocrisy (John Digweed & Nick Muir Remix) by Abe Duque

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

This is a case where I love the original just as much as the remix that John Digweed & Nick Muir have concocted. The original is deep dark and very tribal sounding. The remix takes me back to Global Underground mix CD series territory when big mega clubs were huge and folks would go to dance all night long. I’m loving both versions and I think it’s worth knowing more about this guy Abe Duque. The original is taken from the Don’t Be So Mean album from last year.

Soulwax do an awesome remix of the disco classic A Fifth Of Beethoven by Walter Murphy from the the best selling Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. Wow! I wasn’t aware of this remix but glad I got International Deejay Gigolo Records CD 12 and I found it on there. To my amazement it’s a pretty darn amazing electro remix. Worth checking out below. The rest of the International Deejay Gigolos CD 12 release is pretty rocking too. There’s a pretty darn cool remix of the Peaches song Lose You by DJ Hell, A DJ Hell and Bryan Ferry collaboration and tracks by Diskokaine, Hard Ton, Peter Kruder, Fagget Fairys, Peter Kruder, Psychonauts and more! Worth owning! But for now check out the original of A Fifth Of Beethoven and the Soulwax remix.

  6. Add SUV (Armand Van Helden Vocal Remix) by Uffie Featuring Pharrell

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

Armand Van Helden is in top form here and he’s really back now, like it was in 96/97 when he did the countless awesome remixes for Tori Amos, New Order, Jimmy Somerville, Apollo 440, CJ Bolland, Sash!, Snap, Nuyorican Soul and more and more and more. This remix though is quite the hottest thing I’ve heard for a long ass time when it comes to remixes. It’s got loads of energy and I love Pharrell’s vocals on here in combination with Uffie’s. The original by hottie Uffie is your typical electro hip hop rap/vocal pop cut but this remix delivers 1000%. Right on Armand! Original version from Uffie’s Sex Dreams And Denim Jeans CD that’s just come out.

  7. Sex-O-Sonique Samples Herbie Hancock With I Thought It Was You

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

I Thought It Was You still sounds fresh like it did back in 1997 and it’s one of my favorite recordings of all time if we’re speaking of house music. It’s up there. The guys from Full Intention have taken on the alias of Sex-O-Sonique and have sampled a perfect track for this release. It is damn quite amazing. It was released by the late great FFRR label that was owned by Pete Tong. Well at least I think it’s late and great as I have not seen any releases from them as of late. Either way enjoy this track as it’s one of my faves and hear the origins of where the track comes from by Herbie Hancock.

  8. Cruel Intentions (Heartbreak’s Slow Action Remix) by Simian Mobile Disco

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

Cruel Intentions has loads of remixes in the single package but my favorite is this remix – the Heartbreak’s Slow Action Remix. Signing up Beth Ditto to do the vocals was a great choice and this song kind of takes Simian Mobile Disco in a slower more chill direction versus their last self titled album but I’m digging what I hear so far. Been a fan of Simian Mobile Disco and I’m sure I’ll continue. This remix gives the song a mellow disco groove perfect for after hours chilling in the club or cocktail sipping at the lounge. Works great for me. Does it work for you?

  9. I’m Not Scared by Eighth Wonder & Pet Shop Boys

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

I’m Not Scared was produced and recorded for Patsy Kensit’s band Eighth Wonder but it became such a hit for Eighth Wonder the Pet Shop Boys decided to record it themselves as well and release it on their dance album Introspective in a complete orchestral/dance version. Their both the same song but sound completely different where the Eight Wonder version is more pop dance with touches of Hi-NRG and the Pet Shop Boys version being dramatic Hi-NRG. Both great versions. The versions below are the Disco Version of Eighth Wonder’s I’m Not Scared (the original version off their Fearless album) and the Introspective version from the Pet Shop Boys.

Totally totally wicked track called Space Warrior that I stumbled onto after just listening to Fabriclive 41 the Simian Mobile Disco mix from a couple of years back. Listening to Ida Corr’s Under The Sun in it’s original form makes you think that you are listening to pretty acomplished R&B singer. Then you have this great big remix package for Under The Sun and the remixes range in all styles including full on club bangers and my favorite the Ibizarre Remix which has been given the haunting beats perfect for late night chilling. Gone is the rap from Shaggy that’s present in the original version which I think was a good decision. To me it just doesn’t make sense to include the rap but oh well it’s there in the original version we’ll deal with but it’s all about the remix here and I listen to it over and over again. It’s that good!

  12. Italian Secret Service Cover Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

I think every song should be remixed, remade, sampled even such a classic song like Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana. I love the idea of taking a song that’s recognized in a genre and switching it on everyone and rerecording it in a complete different style. And here it’s done quite well by Italian Secret Service from Irma Records out of Italy. This remake takes me back to the early 60s, innocent jazzy easy listening music. It’s fun and this really works just grab yourself a mai tai and enjoy.

  13. Pennies From Heaven (Count De Money Remix) by Billie Holiday

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

Billie Holiday’s version of Pennies From Heaven is my favorite compared to everyone else that’s done it. It’s so beautiful, calm mellow somewhat moody but very beautiful. When I heard of this remix from the Remixed and Reimagined CD I was quick to snatch it right up! I love remixes (if you haven’t noticed already) and will buy any remix of an existing song including the oldies. I was quite surprised at how good the Count De Money Remix is of Pennies From Heaven. I just wished it was longer. It almost feels or sounds like it starts in the middle. Those record execs and their stupid decisions to do such a thing. Give me the 12″ and day, longer versions pleeze! Either way though I shouldn’t complain because I can have my Billie Holiday songs remixed. The entire collection of Remixed and Reimagined is great. Worth it for anyone that likes remixes or is a Billie Holiday fan but not a purist. Came out in 2007.

Twenty years ago this remix to Beach Bump got me grooving, grooving real good. I caught a listen to it just the other day in my iTunes and wow I’m surprised that it’s still sounding as fresh as it sounded back when it first came out in 1990. The original Beach Bump is off of Baby Fords “OOO” The World Of Baby Ford album which also includes a cover of Children Of The Revolution. Known as one of the guys that kick started the Acid House movement, Baby Ford is one of my all time favorite musicians. There’s a whole list of tracks of his that I still listen to over and over again including Disconoddy, Oochie Koochie, Fetish, Move On, Children Of The Revolution, Normal, Chikki Chikki Ahh Ahh and this cut Beach Bump. 17. Happy Piano by Stereofunk

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

Fools Planet by Stereofunk is a fun, funky electronic dance release with loads of early 90s dance music influences. Especially the cut Happy Piano links below with the great piano samples. It’s upbeat, energetic and very fun to listen to and what a Happy Piano it is. Totally takes me back to the 90s Happy PIano cuts that were released by the countless UK dance labels. Stereofunk on the other hand is from Dresden, Germany. We can skip the UK these days for any cool dance music and turn to France, Sweden and Germany.

Really digging this cut and worth hearing it over and over again. I’m sure you’ll all agree. Check out the original (my favorite) and the remix (which sounds like early 90s rave/techno) and comment on what you think and be sure to look out for more releases by Stereofunk. 19. Hypnotized (Bottin’s Mercurial Mix) by Oscar G & Stryke

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

Hooj Choons was one of my favorite labels coming out of the UK in the early 90s. With hit after hit of dancefloor cuts I was hooked with their Nu NRG sound that they had penned. Some of the acts on the label that I liked were JX, Tin Tin Out, Sister Bliss, Hyper Go Go, Escrima, Hyperlogic and many more.

This track Hypnotized (Bottin’s Mercurial Mix) by Oscar G & Stryke comes off the Some Of These Were Hooj Volume 4 and it’s the standout cut from a very cool, cool compilation. The compilation includes many acts you’ll probably remember if you were tuned into the dance scene that came out of the UK in 90s. 22. Variations Of Supernature by Cerrone Symphony

     Powered by Max Banner Ads

Giorgio Moroder and Cerrone are the Gods or Kings of electronic dance music and I will buy everything I can get my hands on by these two producers. When I ran across this remake or remix I bought it as I love Supernature and It’s one of my top 20 all time favorite dance recordings and wanted to find out what they had done with this recording. I think I like it. Actually I love it.

The original is classic but this remix works great for me. It’s been given the updated modern production but with the added orchestrations of music you would hear in a score. Part of the concert series Cerrone is putting together later this year that’s going to travel to some of the biggest cities in the world. The first show will be in Paris in October.

Supernature has been remade countless times in the past most and one of the most famous remakes is by Erasure back in 1989. I love the William Orbit’s Remix of that Erasure version. So I’m always up for a new version. What do you think of both the original and the new version?

I’ve been really digging this quirky electro dance tune for sometime now so I figured it deserved a post about it. Don’t know much about these guys that go by the name The Swiss but this track Bubble Bath is awesome. They are from Adelaidede, Australia and for sometime now I’ve been digging the cool retro sounding electronic dance music that’s been heading over from the Land Of Oz. Acts like Cut Copy, The Presets, Ladyhawke and Empire Of The Sun. Next up to explode is The Swiss. Well I think. Either way this track Bubble Bath rocks.
