I love it when musicians take a song that’s so well known from an era with such a specific genre and put a new spin on it. This is the fact with Dalminjo Featuring Anja Oyen Vister covering The Smiths classic There Is A Light That Never Goes Out. Dalminjo is known for jazzy housed up club and electronic music and he’s remade this very well known Smiths track and made it housed up clubby but nothing too obnoxious with the beats sort of laidback but you know midtempo. This is the remixed version below as the original version is pretty mellow minimal. Check it out here with the original Smiths version. I like it and I do like it that he’s used Anja Oyen Vister to record the vocals so hearing this with female vocals is a pretty cool thing. What do you think?

Even though I’m digging the original version of In For The Kill I absolutely love this remix. The Lifelike Remix. They’ve kept all the vocals which I perfect so it’s like an extended dance remix with vocals. The original and the Lifelike Remix of In For The Kill are completely different and I first discovered La Roux by hearing the Lifelike Remix which I downloaded from Emusic from a Kitsune compilation. One of my favorite labels from France of all places release some of the best music out there. Worth checking out if you are at all into anything electro, synth pop/punk etc.

The Flirts, the one hit wonder all girl disco 80s group produced by Bobby O that’s only known for their one hit Jukebox do have other songs. One being Passion. It’s quite a cool track dating back to the early 80s. Felix Da Housecat perfecly sampled the bassline from Passion by The Flirts in his very popular hit Silver Screen Shower Scene from his amazing album Kittenz And Thee Glitz. The sample works perfectly here and compliments Miss Kittin’s quirky accented singing.

Check them both out below, you’ll realize once you hear The Flirts and you’ll hear where the sample for Silver Screen Shower Scene comes from. Both very cool!

Once again a cool band like The Glimmers have to change their name because of some old fogies like Mick Jagger and Keith Richards used to use The Glimmer Twins. Whatever!!! I like the Glimmers much better anyway. And this track Galactic Prism is rocking! Love, absolutely love this track since it has a very 80s feel to it but it’s totally now. It’s from The Glimmers album The Glimmers Are Gee Gee Fazzi which is aslo awesome and this track is one of the standout cuts but there’s more more groovy goodies on there! With elements of disco, electro, punk, Latin and their quirky style of production this makes for an awesome release. Enjoy and support The Glimmers and buy their album The Glimmers Are Gee Gee Fazzi! Disco will never go out of style! It’s here to stay forever and ever. That’s why musicians keep sampling famous tracks over and over again from the disco era! So Richard Dorfmeister (aka Kruder & Dorfmeister) and Madrid De Los Austrias have done an excellent sampling job on their track Boogie No More sampling the classic disco song Boogie Oogie Oogie by A Taste Of Honey. It’s perfect here and the Reverso 68 Remix is just awesome! The single also includes a Kraak & Smaak remix which is also pretty darn good. The Kraak & Smaak remix is a little more on the big beat side which makes both remixes completely different.

Hey Big Spender! This remix is off of Shirley Bassey’s remix greatest hits CD that came out in 2000. It’s a great collection of her greatest hits remixed. I think they got the idea after she did that song History Repeating with The Propellerheads which actually became a pretty big hit and was licensed to numerous films and commercials then you know the rest. So this remixed hits set is pretty awesome and I still listen to it now and then! It’s got a who’s who of guest remixers and the remixes are top notch with Big Spender being the standout remix. It’s fast very lively and energetic. Pretty much like a Fatboy Slim track circa 1998 but slightly better. I don’t know much about Wild Oscar … I looked them up on Discogs but they don’t have much credit. Either way they have done a pretty darn good remix. Check both original and remixed version of Big Spender out below.

I think Mylo’s album Destroy Rock And Roll is genius! I’m mean come on? I’ve got a whole website named after it right? I think it’s one of the best albums of the 2000′s. It’s perfection and this track In My Arms is a great example of a sampling job done perfectly. Mylo has taken the classic Bette Davis Eyes by Kim Carnes and made his own song In My Arms. I’m sure most of you have heard it but did you know it contained a sample of the high energy pop song Bette Davis Eyes by Kim Carnes? Well now you do. Check them out both below and you’ll see.

Well The Solar Twins that little known one hit wonder band from England that split up just after releasing one album did have a good enough song to have a post on DestroyRockAndRoll.com. Although I have to say this version of Rock The Casbah is pretty darn good. Don’t get me wrong The Clash are awesome at that song but this Solar Twins is a great electronica interpretation. Released back in 1999 on Madonna’s Maverick Records Solar Twins self titled album is chock full of electronica, downtempo, drum and bass and ambient styles and this Rock The Casbah and Swayambhu are the standout cuts on the album. I guess it was good enough to end up on the Brokedown Palace soundtrack that was also released also in 1999. The rest of the album is just mediocre.

This is a vinyl promo release of the Dirty South Remix for Just Can’t Get Enough – the Depeche Mode synth pop classic that kick started their 25+ year career in the music biz. It’s a pretty darn good remix by Dirty South the Australian DJ/musician that’s known for his electro house sound. The remix keeps the original famous synth sound but it takes a while to actually hear something borrowed from the original Depeche Mode track but I still dig it. It’s very fresh and now … well from 3 years ago part of the Depeche Mode greatest hits CD that came out then with their single Martyr – their 45th single. Destroy-Rock-And-Roll-Remix-Madonna-Give-It-2-Me-Portrait

Give it 2 Me is a pretty darn good song on Madonna’s Hard Candy album. This version of Give It 2 Me is a remix off of the CD single for Give It 2 me and it’s one of the better remixes on the disc. It’s the Eddie Amador House Lovers mix. The CD single contains lots of choices but among all the talent that have been hired to remix this track only one has actually been able to create something original so I was a bit disappointed with the whole collection and unfortunately failed to even listen to the Eddie Amador House Lovers Mix. Just earlier today I was a clothing store and I heard this version playing loudly on the system and quickly thought to come back and check out the collection and sure enough they were playing this version. So at least the collection is worth it for this version. Check out both the original and the remix of Give It 2 Me by Madonna below. Whatcha think?

I love it when DJ’s or artists remix very well known tracks but legends. This remix was done by Paul Oakenfold of the classic Doors track L.A. Woman I dig it very much. It’s now around 5 or 6 years old but hey L.A. Woman never gets tired and this remix is just the same. It’s not your typical dance remix here Paul Oakenfold keeps the same elements of the original Doors song but the remix has an added oomph factor to it. Check them both out below. ABC by The Jackson 5 is a pretty fun song and this is a very fun remix of ABC by The Jackson 5 in the style of Fatboy Slim and even Pizzicato 5. This one is remixed by Konishi Yasuharu and it’s lively, energetic and groovy and I think it’s suits the song very well because it has a very 70s remix style to it. This remix is from the Soul Source – The Jackson 5 Remixes 2 CD that came out back in 2000 or 2001. 2 CD’s of Jackson Five remixes! Rare discs that you might find somewhere used or new maybe and well worth owning if you can find them and you are into remixes. The CD is a Japanese Import so might still be available some places I would snatch it up if you find it.

This came out in the early 2000s so it sounds a bit trancey dated but still fun if you like your trance fast and pumping! I first heard of Wim Mertens and Close Cover when I bought Cafe Del Mar Volume 5 back in 2000 and immediately loved his approach to new age and classical music. I’m not such a big fan of new age but do love classical so I love Close Cover in it’s true original form. But the Minimalistix make a fun clubbed out version that you can hear below. Pretty cool sampling job by Blue Boy for the track Remember Me. Blue Boy is Scottish DJ, Alexis ‘Lex’ Blackmore and this is his one and only hit. This one dates back to 1997 so it’s 12 years old now but the sample is a live version of Marlena Shaw’s Woman Of The Ghetto. The live album it comes from is Live In MontreauxThis live version of Woman Of The Ghetto was pretty popular for sampling back in the late 90s and early 2000s. It was also sampled by St. Germain for this Rose Rouge track off of Tourist. Very cool stuff. Check out both Blue Boy and original live version of Women Of The Ghetto below. The samples is basically Marlena Shaw singing … “Remember me … I’m the one who had your babies”. It’s perfect. The song reached pretty high in the charts in the UK but here in the states it was pretty underground.

Here’s a synthy trademark Chromeo sounding mellow cover of the Eagles 70s soft rock/easy listening track I Can’t Tell You Why. Listening to the original gives me goosebumps as I have a love/hate relationship with this track. A good and bad time in my life. But the remake by Chromeo is quite fun and slightly quirky as they are known for producing. Check them out below. This cover is released as part of the DJ Kicks mix CD. It’s perfectly placed in the mix. The disc also contains some flashback 80s tracks by France Joli, Kano, Donna Allen and Leo Sayer. A great mix for anyone into synth dance pop with an 80s sound. Check out the fun promo film as well. It’s shot in the streets of Paris. You know what now that I think about this Chromeo cover at first listen it sounds like an 80s Hall & Oates track. Hmm?

Ok we know The Supremes did this song first but I like the Kim Wilde Version as well. It’s a pretty darn cool remake that Kim Wilde did back in 1986. It was originally written and produced by Motown’s main production team Holland-Dozier-Holland.

This remake by Soda Inc. is a midtempo electro disco cover of that track. It’s mostly sexy beats except for the main part “Set Me Free Why Don’t You Babe … You Just Keep Me Hangin’ On. I think it’s perfection! Check both the Kim Wilde version and the Soda Inc. cover and you’ll know what I mean. Night Fever by Soda Inc. is on the cool Plastic City Record Label definitely worth checking out for more of their releases.

Hey taking a classic 80s song like Change by Tears For Fears and sampling the most prominent part into a dance track is awesome thing to do. Check this track Always by David Guetta from his Pop Life album. I think Guetta has taken that wonderful sound from the Tears For Fears song and sampled it perfectly in his song Always. Worth owning for sure. Compare both below.

Pop Life also contains This Is Not A Love Song the Public Image Limited cover as well as hits Love Don’t Let Me Go the remix with The Egg. Worth owning!

  23. Follow Me (Fred Everything & Olivier Desmet Sf Vocal) by Aly-Us

    Follow-Me-2009-Aly-Us

Follow Me by Aly-Us is a spiritual or gospel house hit way back from 1992 off of the Strictly Rhythm Records. The original is very soulful and I can hardly consider it house music. The recent remixes package that was released contains this Fred Everything & Olivier Desmet remix. I like it it tries to hold on to it’s soulfulness but I still dig the Full Intention Remix that was released back in 2002. Check out both versions below. The original, original version from 1992 and this latest remix by Fred Everything & Olivier Desmet. What do you think?

  24. Club Tropicana by Bossasonic Covers Wham!

    Bossasonic-Club-Life

This is fun sunny version of Wham!s Club Tropicana from the little known band Bossasonic. Very island/Brazil inspired. Whereas the Wham! version was also island inspired it has that classic 80s sound to it. This version by Bossasonic definitely has the jazz thing going. I can see this version played at a fun cocktail club/theater as it has that vibe going. Check them out both. I love both and I can listen to them over and over again. The song is from the Bossasonic album Club Life. Check out Bossasonic on Myspace.

Make sure you listen for the ocean waves while listening to the Bossasonic version. And be sure you catch the Wham! video for Club Tropicana.

I’ve been a fan of Martin Solveig from France for quite a while now and was very happy to find that Dragonette the electro pop band from Canada and Martin Solveig had teamed up to do a song together. The original Boys & Girls is a bouncy electro pop number but this remix by Bart B More is something that takes me back to early 90′s rave techno music days. Very very fun and great for the dancefloor.

    Check both versions out below.
