  1. Muhammed Ali by Faithless

I love this track. Faithless have taken a classic soul/disco track Strategy by Archie Bell and the Drells and sampled it to perfection and have made it the perfect background music to a wonderful soul/ funk track with a nice chill vibe. It’s perfection actually. And Maxi Jazz’s lyrics and signing works great here too.

I tried to find the video on youtube and I did find it but SONY/BMG had disabled embedding so we wont be seeing it here. If you feel like it check it out on youtube! But you got the great songs below! Both are great!

  2. Blue Monday (DJ Dan Remix) by Orgy

How do you take one of the best dance singles of all time and redo it? Well record it (but it kinda sucks) then release a bunch of remixes (most sucked) but make sure you get DJ Dan to remix it for you. Well I have to say this remix of Blue Monday by Orgy originally by New Order is quite nice. It’s actually perfection. You can actually hear elements of the original music by New Order in this remix that aren’t in the the original cover by Orgy. So guess what? Which version do you think I like best? I love the remix over the Orgy original. It’s nice and upbeat!

    Check it out and enjoy!

  3. Que Sera by Wax Tailor

I love this remake of Que Sera by Wax Tailor! Taking an old song especially like an old cheerful, bright and happy Doris Day song and remaking it in this style is awesome.

Wax Tailor is a French Trip-Hop/Hip Hop producer/artists that’s released several eps and albums and this is one of my favorite remakes as of recently – last couple of years. He’s worked with folks like Sharon Jones and Ursula Rucker. This track comes off of his first full album Tales From The Forgotten Melodies. Check it out as it’s a great release. For true Trip-Hop and Downtempo fans with Hip Hop flavor!

  4. Precious Heart by Tall Paul Vs. Inxs

Here’s a pretty good remake or remix of an Inxs song. The really big Inxs hit Never Tear Us Apart has basically been given a trance beat by Tall Paul. I have a love hate relationship with Inxs music the more later tracks of their are very forgettable but this song is pretty good and this remix is pretty nice. More of a dance pop song than anything for the clubs – still nice though. What do you think?

  5. Can’t Fake The Feeling (Quick’s Amped Up Discopass) by Geraldine Hunt

Taking old disco classics like this Geraldine Hunt classic from the late 80s and sampling and or remixing was a common thing in the 90s. This remix came out in 1999 almost 20 years after the original version was on the billboard hot dance club chart. It was on in 1980 in October and spent it there for 7 weeks.

I certainly do enjoy the original alot and disco even though is old still doesn’t sound tired. This remix though by Prince Quick is sounding quite nice but maybe a little tired. I’m still digging it though only and it’s certainly in Prince Quick’s typical style/sound.

Prince Quick has made a pretty nice update here even though this remix is 10 years old it’s moves. Don’t you think so?

  6. Keep Hope Alive (MSTRKRFT Remix) by The Crystal Method

Sorry I do love MSTRKRFT but I hate this remix. For once I have to revert back to the original of version of a track and this is when I have to do it. This remix just does not go anywhere. What do you think? I think it sucks! I think The Crystal Method should have not even approved this remix. What were they thinking? This remix is on the 10th year anniversary of their Vegas CD and it’s quite lame. Lame Lame Lame. Awful. I’ll stick to the original on this one. Too bad though as it would have been great to hear some updated cut of this awesome track. No good to mix big beat with the sounds of electro. Hmm.

Watch the video for more memories…

The original brings back memories of 1997 though. Those were the good old days of electronic music. Oh well. Can’t have it all can we?

  7. Standing In The Way Of Control (Playgroup Remix) by The Gossip

I love taking a punk rock song and remixing the hell out of it and make it a fucking cool awesome dance club song. Such is the example of this track by The Gossip. Playgroup who back in 2002 released a really awesome self titled album of electro funky dance pop. It’s a great album and worth checking out if you haven’t. I have the double CD version pictured below which you should def. own that has lots of great remixes.

Playgroup actually did major wonders to this track – he (Trevor Jackson) has added a very early 90′s sound to the remix and It’s rocking. Well in a remix way. Check it out and let me know what you think? You like? Let me know

  8. Fear Of Flying by Vitamin C

I love this song by Vitamin C and I love the way the sample from The Magnificent Seven is used in the song. The singing is perfect one of the better Vitamin C songs and the beats. I like it when samples from original songs are used perfectly in newer songs and this actually really succeeds. I’m not sure about other Vitamin C songs as they tend to be pretty poppy but this song definitely has an edge to it especially since it’s utilizing the sample from The Clash.

Hey though Vitamin C aka Colleen Fitzpatrick is a pretty big star. She made her acting debut in the awesome John Waters film Hairspray. She played Amber Von Tussle. She did several movies after that but later she was in the band Eve’s Plumb. Remember them? The pop/punk band who were known for the Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons song December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night). Oh maybe we should blog about that song on Destroy Rock & Roll too.

Check it out and let me know what you think? Do you like the original the remake or both?

  9. Nasty Girl (Full Mix) by Inaya Day

Born again Christian, Vanity’s songs were sexy and risque back when they came out and most of them are pretty forgettable today but I still dig Nasty Girl as it’s a great track. This update by Inaya Day is pretty good also. It’s sped up a bit and it’s more of an electronic electro-dance track compared to the Prince produced funk/dance track of the original.

I found Inaya Day’s version of Nasty Girl on Hed Kandi’s Disco Kandi 05.04 – a great collection of discoish electronic dance club tracks. It’s one of the better collections of music anyone can buy. Do check it out.

Check them out as their quite unique on their own. What do you think of the two?
